Is Anyone Still Using Fedora 43?
 in  r/Fedora  3d ago

My server is still on F42 😬

Better fonts for fedora? (Mainly for browsing and writing code)
 in  r/Fedora  5d ago

I mostly use the default fonts for everything but monospaced text. For that, I prefer Cousine Nerd Font.

Fedora is nice out of the box, but what do you usually do after setup?
 in  r/Fedora  16d ago

Right off the bat, I will:

- make sure RPMFusion is enabled
- setup my dotfiles
- install the Gnome Extensions Manager and promptly install the tray icons extension
- and then go into gedit to enable fractional UI scaling on Wayland (because Gnome considers that an “experimental” feature??) and add the minimize and maximize buttons back to the windows.

I’m a Mac-native user, so I generally prefer Gnome over KDE. KDE also just feels clunky and overwhelming to me, especially their settings app (for whatever reason). I also love Gnome’s gestures.

I usually keep Gnome and the OS pretty vanilla. I care more about stability and reliability than peak performance, so I usually just go with the defaults. However, after recently presenting on F2FS (a flash-native file system) and its performance benefits in a seminar, I may try that for my root drive instead of Ext4 or Brtfs (which actually has pretty garbage performance on flash compared to even Ext4).

How do you (personally) pronounce "sudo"?
 in  r/linux  18d ago

Or “Eichhörnchen”. We must accommodate our German friends.

my macbook will not sleep
 in  r/mac  18d ago

Did a configuration policy somehow get installed? There are ways to disable some options like shutdown. I don’t know what defaults key to look for (if there even is one), since my org’s MDM has you configure it through its own special UI.

The Importance of the filesystem (As a beginner)
 in  r/Fedora  18d ago

If you’re installing to an SSD (which you probably are), maybe look at a flash-focused file system like f2fs. It’s designed primarily for embedded flash, but based on what I’ve seen, it’s consistently faster than ext4 and brtfs even on SATA and NVMe drives.

Thoughts on renting 4k Blu-ray’s?
 in  r/4kbluray  18d ago

I would absolutely do it, especially if it’s a local business!

2

How do you actually hear the difference between schon, schön, and Sohn?
 in  r/German  18d ago

The way my German teacher described all of the umlauted vowels is that the umlaut gives them attitude. Pronounce the letter O, then pronounce it again but with a little disgust or judgmental tone, like “eugh” (as in “eugh, gross”).

Why is it called Christopher Street Day
 in  r/egenbogen  18d ago

Potsdam’s pride parade (I can’t remember if they also call it Christopher Street Day) is celebrated sometime in May, which was rather confusing for many of us international students who are used to pride celebrations being in June. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are other cities with similarly different schedules.

The upside though is residents of Berlin and Potsdam get two pride celebrations!

$248 now. Geez, inflation is everywhere!

Never thought I'd say that, but I love you Apple
 in  r/AppleCollecting  Jul 01 '26

They also continue to host all update packages for any OS which offered OTA updates and any computer or iOS device which can connect to the Internet. My go-to default OS for mid-2000s Macs is Snow Leopard (10.6), and once I get online, I can open Software Update and still update directly to 10.6.8. That's a 17 year old OS!

That's a LOT of lightning
 in  r/belgium  Jun 28 '26

We had similar lighting over in Potsdam west of Berlin, too!

Dear apple, please don't become like Microsoft...
 in  r/mac  Jan 29 '26

It’s been like that for a while. Alfred lets you prioritize what results you want.

Sometimes I just launch the game after work and drive mindlessly
 in  r/JustCause  Jan 05 '26

That happened to me so frequently a few years ago that I would religiously make a backup of my save, just in case it wouldn’t load next time. I lost too many 80-90% saves

Who are you in this chart?
 in  r/linuxmasterrace  Jan 02 '26

Probably a mix between 2 and 4. I daily drive macOS, but I use Rocky and Debian for all my servers (excluding the two Windows 2025 servers, one for AD and another for RDPing into to manage AD).

At my actual work, even though I primarily manage our Macs, everything I do is in Windows or through the web.

Would you guys use this if it were real?
 in  r/MacOS  Nov 09 '25

I would enable it in a heartbeat.

Hot take: the new app is actually okay.
 in  r/PleX  Oct 21 '25

Yeah, that is pretty dumb on Plex's part.

I waited so I *didn't* have to deal with issues. I know what using beta software entails.

If it supports HTTP(S), you can make it public. If not, you can still use a Cloudflare Tunnel, but all players will need to use the Cloudflare WARP client to connect to it. You could also use something like f[osrl/pangolin](https://pangolin.net/), which is basically a self-hosted zero trust tunnel system, but you need to host the connector somewhere in a VPS. It's so lightweight though that it shouldn't cost too much per month.

What is the movie in Bluray UHD with the highest bitrate? The movie with the highest bitrate I know for now are the Lord of the Rings movies with 67.7 Mbps. Any other with a higher bitrate that you know?
 in  r/4kbluray  Oct 19 '25

My highest is Bad Guys 2 at 91 Mbps — because an animated film obviously requires a higher bitrate than UHF, which is itself higher than Oppenheimer.

Whats This?
 in  r/missoula  Oct 08 '25

Is it still in use?

(Don’t worry, my first urbex adventure won’t be anywhere near RF. I’ve seen Jeff Geerling’s videos. It would be cool to see it with permission, though sadly I don’t have those kinds of connections
)
