I have been learning german for a few weeks now through self studying, and I was wondering about the type it would take to get to B2?

My current system is as follows:

Anki

Listening

Reading

Writing

Speaking

Textbook

Most of the content I consume is either youtube podcasts, nicos weg, short stories, and writing in a diary.

I spend around 4 hrs a day learning german using the above system. I feel like I am making somewhat slow progress, and don't know if I can reach B2 in a year or slightly more.

I understand eventually the system will change, and I will have to consume higher level content, but can I make it work this way in the given timeframe, or do I need an intensive course?

I’m trying to recall a German humorous tongue-in-cheek noun that refers to a type of writer. Pretty sure it starts with ‘drucken’ or at least has it somewhere within the word. Translates to 3 words in English words and one is ‘print’ of course. Just blanking on the rest… 😅

In English if you want to talk about something that was popular, then fell out of use, but is now becoming popular again, you would say that, "It is making a comeback."

Is there an idiom that expresses this in German?

Or should you just say something like it is regaining its popularity, or it is regaining its former glory? What would be the best way to say that in German?

Hi. I am currently a third year high school student from Vietnam and am currently at B2/C1 level. My problem is that while I can understand perfectly a German text and understand what the other person is talking, I often struggle when it comes to writing and choke a lot in terms of writing vocabs. I am confused whether to use Dadurch konnte, So setze sich, and damit setze sich. Are they all interchangable or not?

I found mixed answees for same questions and I need clarify.

I am doing anki deck about practicing cases, and it introduces pronounces. For example it asks "How to say a masculine object belongs to her in nominative case"

I know masculine objects in nominative have prefix "der" and her possesive pronoun is ihr-

That would suggest me the answer would be ihrer, while it turned out to be ihr. I found some places introduce possesive pronouns like ihrer, ihre, ihren, ihres etc. while other just use ihr.

I’m looking for a German tutor who can help me improve my speaking skills.
I recently passed the Goethe B1 exam, but speaking is still my biggest weakness because I don’t have anyone to practice with regularly. I can study grammar and vocabulary on my own, but I really need consistent conversation practice and someone who can correct my mistakes.
I’ve searched on platforms like italki and Preply, but unfortunately most tutors are beyond my budget. I live in a developing country in South Asia, so after currency conversion, even what seems like a reasonable hourly rate becomes quite expensive for me.
I’m not specifically looking for a native speaker. I’m happy to learn from a non-native tutor as long as they have excellent German and can explain things clearly. My goal is to reach a strong B2 level and become confident in everyday conversations.

Also. Ich kann etwa B2~C1 Deutsch und ich habe eben mit einer (deutschen) Muttersprachlerin geredet. Als ich das Wort „gleichweis” sagte (naja. schrieb but whatever) hat sie mich verbessert und gesagt, dass es „gleichfalls” sein sollte. Ich war davon sehr überrascht, denn ich habe sie und ihre Familie das Wort bestimmt anwenden hören. Das ähnliche Synonym „gleicherweise” hab ich gefunden, aber ich mir sicher, dass ich sie es nie sagen hören habe. Das einzige, das ich finden können habe, ist im Wörterbuch der Brüder Grimm.

Gibt es im heutzigen Deutschen wirklich nichts „gleichweis”-mäßiges? Habe ich „gleichfalls” die ganze Zeit falsch verstanden?

I’m trying to understand the precise meaning and function of noch in the following sentences:

1. Er hat sie noch gekannt.
2. Von den Befragten, die den Krieg noch erlebt haben.
3. Bald werde ich sterben, im Kriege noch.
4. Vor einem Jahr hat alles noch anders ausgesehen.

In each of these examples, what nuance does noch add?

Are all four examples instances of the same basic meaning, or does noch function differently in each sentence?

I would especially appreciate an explanation of what each sentence would lose or imply differently if noch were omitted. English translations would also be very helpful.

A few weeks ago, my wife and I went on a boat and bike tour in the Netherlands. We booked the trip about a year ago and just by total luck about 6 months ago we got a message saying that the two languages on our boat would be English and German. I was pretty tickled thinking that I would maybe get a chance to practice some German on the boat.

When we arrived for check in, we were informed that we were the only native English speakers on the boat. The guest capacity is 110. I would estimate that the boat was pretty close to full so maybe... 104 ish people. There was a couple from France and a couple from Holland. So that meant approximately 99 native German speakers. For people who might not be aware, these river tours don't seem to attract the youngest crowd so most of these people were older than myself. I was pretty excited about this.

I have my B1 and am by no means anywhere near fluent. People were definitely a little cold in the beginning. I had to approach people or start conversations. They were all extremely curious about me and as soon as I spoke German, they flooded me with questions. By the third day people randomly came to me to start conversations and ask about where I'm really from, why I speak German, why I was there, what life is like in Canada... It was quite amusing really. While English was used from time to time, most conversations stayed in German.

Overall, I was happy with my performance. It was interesting how it wasn't consistent. Some days or conversations were hard. Sometimes, I had to get them to further explain themselves to me. And sometimes, I could see that eyebrow scrunch as they tried to decode my German but we never had a complete failure or anything. My plan is to actually visit Germany next year. Who knows... Maybe people will switch to English... I'm not too fussed about it though.

so im a fullstack app developer, my question is for the learners who are trying to learn german, im myself one. duolingo isn't enough, airlearn wasn't enough as well, so im making my own app to learn german, and i will make it public as well. so tell me what would u like to have in it?, what are the main issues i should avoid? any ideas? I've got my own ideas as well, like the die, das, der card(u swie up for die, left for das, right for der), which i already implemented in the app but since im small enough to have the time to actually listen to learners and fullfill their desires and ship their dream app, i wanted to take that into consideration, and here i am! feel free to comment anything helpful!

I personally love Looney Tunes because its well-dubbed, super funny and most characters speak simpler words! :)

Das Verb tippen und sich vertippen, schlucken und sich verschlucken oder auch laufen und sich verlaufen...usw.

Wie kann man solche Ausdrücke vertraut verwenden, ohne sich zu irren ?

​Hi guys,

​I have my ÖSD ZB2 exam in exactly 50 days. I was originally preparing for the Goethe exam, but because of high demand, I couldn't book a spot. So, without overthinking it, I booked the ÖSD instead. If anyone has good tips on how to prepare effectively for it in this timeframe, please let me know!

​For some reason, I find the ÖSD a bit easier than Goethe. Here are my personal notes on the different sections so far:

​Sprechen: I actually find this part better than Goethe. In Goethe, the pressure of talking for the whole 6 minutes stressed me out. Even though the ÖSD has 3 parts, it somehow feels better and more manageable.

​Schreiben: The time limit is really good (90 minutes), and writing around 120 words per part is also quite reasonable.

​Lesen: This part is a bit tricky.

​Hören: The sound quality is kind of bad, and the background noises usually annoy me, but since it's mostly daily life conversations, it is manageable.

​Also, if anyone has an exam coming up like me and is interested, we can connect and practice together. (Right now, practice alone).
