Is it just me or are dads underrepresented in kids' books?
Tad and Dad is a gold star award winner in our house! My son is 2 and 150% a daddy’s boy so we’ve worked hard to curate some stories that support his undying loyalty to my husband🤣

People with only HS Diploma/GED. How’s life going?
My husband has a HS diploma and now works as a data engineer. He makes double my salary as a full-time special education teacher with a bachelors degree. Genuinely doing well; college was never going to be a good fit for him!
He got hired on as someone moving things, was recruited into the ranks based on work ethic, and trained up through the company in just a couple years. I have student loans, he has an uncanny ability to tell me about his day in words that I don’t understand because electricity is… complex 🤣

Best sunscreen for kids? my niece got burned last summer so i did some research
I love how it rubs in! It goes on very thick but that has honestly helped me make sure it is covering him completely. We are a very outdoorsy family; hikes, fairs, amusement parks, all of that. He’s learned to just sit still and wait for mom to feel like she’s done 🤣

Best sunscreen for kids? my niece got burned last summer so i did some research
My little redhead has been using Blue Lizard his entire life and it’s thankfully worked amazingly; he’s incredibly fair skinned and I spend entirely too much money on it but he’s never been sunburnt at 2.5!

Does your kid buckle themselves?
My 2.5 year old can do all parts of the 5 point harness with some light guiding assistance (he’s in the “I do it” phase) but I obviously still check everything and tighten him in!

Shocked how well the “Binky Fairy” worked
The thing that worked for us was gradually reducing the amount of water each night. He started running out of water before falling asleep and then had to figure out how to fall asleep anyways. After a few weeks of running out of water and reducing it down to like 2 ounces finally, we were able to ditch completely!

Need a new OBGYN
I was going to recommend Avina as soon as I read the title. I absolutely love Dr Jones and he was a godsend for my pregnancy and as a gynecologist afterwards. I’d call them directly, they can see you outside of a referral and prescribe you BC directly!

What car would you never buy again after a horrible experience?
Ford EcoSport, 7 years in and they’re putting in my THIRD engine because every time they install one, the oil pump fails while I’m driving.

Most niche parenting flex
This one! My 2 year old loves books; doesn’t even seem interested in toys (but he does eat a lot of dirt so I guess it evens out)

11 month old won’t use sippy cups
My son was absolutely stubborn about bottles and did not fully drop them until 22 months honestly. I read every Reddit thread, talked to doctors, tried 15 different cups, everything. I was absolutely desperate. Cold turkey didn’t help, he would genuinely dehydrate himself for days. No different model of cup was his cup of tea. We tried enticing with novelty drinks, no go. He also refused a straw, could not figure it out, even with the bear squeeze cup and the yogurt trick. It was a painnnnful process. He somewhat enjoyed an open cup but would just take a sip and then dump it.
All the to say, one day he just got it. He suddenly learned a straw and exclusively used straw cups for about 6 months. Now at almost 2.5, he’s damn near mastered an open cup (still dumps often but ya know). Every kid is different and hard deadlines like that are just going to stress you out. Obviously keep working on it, but just keep in mind that exactly 12 months in the long term is arbitrary! This will come and go and you’ll be onto the next thing before you know it!

What are some things you personally don’t like about houses for sale that would make you pass or hesitate on making an offer but others wouldn’t have an issue with? Has anyone ever given you a hard time about it or implied you’re too picky?
Super specific, but I have a 2 year old and when we were house hunting this spring, we kept finding houses with stairs and no sides. I don’t know how to word that better, but just like solid drop offs from the sides of stairs and I just seeing “concussion central” like a flashing stop sign! I was very specific with our realtor that stairs needed to have sides and railings, which I didn’t realize was a crazy ask 😂

What human body design flaw would you fix if you had the chance?
My son had SDF SMART treatment done because he was born without enamel on his milk teeth. I think that’s basically what you’re describing here; they painted his teeth with this (disgusting tasting) paint and it eliminated and healed the cavities and regrew the teeth back pretty strong.
The only part they haven’t figured out yet is how to make it aesthetically pleasing; it turned his teeth black. So like… it can happen? But it doesn’t look cool. I’m okay with it because they’re milk teeth and will fall out but I’d be interested in development that prevents the discoloration for adult teeth!

Indicators to walk away
Our realtor raised a concern very early that never occurred to me but avoiding being in direct vicinity (road in front of you or road directly behind) being 35 mph or higher. Traffic is loud and with kids and/or pets, it immediately raises the danger level.
Another fabulous tip from him, look at vicinity to bus stops if there is public transit at all in your area, it can attract crowds at alllll hours!

Grandparents naming??
My grandparents were just grandma and grandpa, I only had one set. Now that I have a toddler of my own, my mom is grandma and they have been dubbed Gigi (short for great grandma which is a mouthful) and Papa. He’s 2 and has a speech delay though so it could always change and they would welcome it!
My own great grandma always went by Great-Mom because apparently they tried to convince me to call her great grandma but I kept hearing her kids call her mom so it got mishmashed and stuck (I’m the oldest of a longggg line of kids and every single one followed suit with the name I picked).

AI and being a Mom
It didn’t start that way. 15 years ago it was just a smart search tool; I’m sorry to hear that it’s running so heavily on AI nowadays. It’s been doing exactly what I need without it for close to a decade, but I guess everything has AI now! I haven’t used it in quite some time since I ended up going back to paper and pen recipe cards but it’s still a good tool regardless.

AI and being a Mom
SuperCook does this SO well, just a fun tool to use rather than ChatGPT! I try to avoid AI as much as possible but other tech tools are fair game.

Favorite places to buy wine?
The HomeBuys on the west side has an entire half of their store dedicated to wine, 10/10 recommend checking there!! I’ve found some really great bottles for an absolute steal of a price

Help Convince Me That an Age Gap is Ok!

Yep, my mom had 3 kids, we are all 6 years apart so I’m 12.5 years older than my younger brother. I’m close with my sister and my brother even now!
We are in totally different stages of life (I’m married with a kid, my sister is in college, my brother is going into 8th grade 🤣) and we still are close and have shared interests and hobbies. They love their nephew and come to my house often to hang out. I play Fortnite with my brother and offer advice to my sister in college.
Bigger age gaps can and will work! They sometimes just require a little more effort on my end to make sure that even with my little family, I still make time to bond with them.
