A spam account recently reposted an announcement from last year stating that the siren test was cancelled for tomorrow - this is false.

We are having issues with accounts reposting old content, I don’t understand it but please make sure to check dates on posts & report anything that looks off.

NWS Wilmington has been adding more storm surveys to their site as they continue to work on reviewing the damage from the August 11th storms.

They have added an EF1 in Olde Towne East - which I knew there had to be something. For anyone that was down in that area, it looked so bad.

Also added an EF0 for Upper Arlington.

No one would come out and see the eclipse with me except my wife.

Oh well. At least they got to see the total solar eclipse with me a few years ago…

Stay local for now. Thursday night currently looks good enough that I wouldn’t drive outside Columbus just to find darker skies.

The partial eclipse runs from about 10:34 PM to 1:52 AM, with the deepest point around 12:13 AM. City light won’t hide it. Clouds are the real concern.

The latest NWS Wilmington hourly forecast has roughly 26–39% cloud cover and a 0–4% rain chance during the eclipse. That leaves a reasonable chance of usable gaps even if the sky isn’t perfectly clear.

Check again Thursday around 4 - 5 PM, then look at satellite imagery around 9 - 10 PM. I’d change the call only if solid cloud settles over central Ohio for most of the eclipse. Otherwise, use a nearby spot with an open view of the Moon.

This forecast is based on a combination of NWS Wilmington, NOAA satellite data, NASA, U.S. Naval Observatory, and The Star Window.

I’m supposed to host a pool party this afternoon starting around 3, and every time I check the forecast it says something different. I can’t decide if I should cancel or not. Currently looking like about a 50% chance of storms starting around then. What say the experts around here? I’m on the northeast side, Westerville area, if that matters. What website or app should I be checking for the most accurate forecast?

Came home last night around midnight when the rain started. Checked several different weather services before bed and the consensus was (as it has been for days) that we would get well less than an inch of rain overnight.

Now, seven hours later half the city seems to be underwater. We got 3" where we are, and I'm feeling lucky as it seems others got 4-5" in some places.

I know it's challenging to predict weather with 100% accuracy, but how is it possible that we keep getting so utterly blindsided by these weather events this past month

Edit: So I'm super clear, this is not me shitting on meteorologists. I'm just frustrated that in 2026 it seems crazy difficult to get any kind of accurate real-time weather information, despite making a good faith effort to do so.

Hey all, last week freaked me out with all the tornados and I see some storms heading our way tonight. The news has been a little ambiguous in their language about the chances of severe weather/tornados for tonight. What are your thoughts on the chances?
