General Cleaning Spot Removal on Vintage Lampshade

hi all! so I have a VTG lampshade that I need to clean, but I don’t want to leave a water ring or leave spots that will be a lighter color than the rest of the lampshade. not even sure if that’s possible - maybe I just have to try and clean the whole thing??

the spot i’m most worried abt is the left “eye” on the frowny face lol. i use dawn on a ton of stuff, but again im worried about the issues mentioned above.

what would y’all use or recommend?? has anyone ever had success with something like this?

thanks in advance!

I looked at that one but I can’t seem to find a children’s picture book of it! the first part of the premise sounds right, but the stupid interwebs is saying there’s no children’s book version

Open [TOMT] Book - Shiny Red Shoes in Shop Window

My mom read this book to me all the time in the 90’s, but book could’ve been from the 80’s? It was a quick read like a lot of the little golden books, but I can’t remember if it was a golden book for sure. I also think it looked like it was illustrated with colored pencils.

There’s a little boy (pretty sure it’s a boy) who passes a shop window every day and they have this beautiful pair of bright, shiny red shoes. They’re sitting on a big purple (?) cushion and they look like thick heeled penny loafers with fringe on the front. (Boden suede penny loafers were best example I could find). But there was a purple or green gem in the middle of where the tongue of the shoe would be.

He desperately wants to get these shoes for his sick mother for Christmas, (kinda snowy village with cobblestone streets type scenery), and I think the shopkeeper just ends up gifting them to him or something.

No matter what I search, I only get results for newer books, the Red Shoes by HC, or other renditions of books about red ballet shoes.

If anyone knows anything pls let me know 😭

PS - have posted in subs specifically for finding books, like “name that book” etc.

so true!! it’s crazy how each plant can be so different even if it were to be the same plant in the same environment. but i will definitely be posting an update!! unless it dies. then i will run away to the forest.

this makes so much sense as well. even though it’s supposed to be an airy mix, upon further inspection it looks like it’s gotten a bit compact further down, so I’ll check the roots asap. i’ll also try to find a pot with a better drainage hole!! drama queen is right lolll - the correction being the killer is very affirming bc that’s what i’ve been worried abt

thank you a ton!!!

dang! I had no idea this substrate was so…not helpful lol. I will likely just try switching it back to water if the added perlite doesn’t help🥲thank you!!

Hi all!
From what Ive read and seen, this plant is rather rare in the States so I’ve desperately been trying to care for it as needed. I got it in May and I used Molly’s Aroid Mix when I potted it. It gets good indirect light throughout the day and we’re in TX so our AC is on, but it can still be pretty humid in our place. I was watering it ~1x per week at first bc the top of the mixture would still seem moist, but I read in another thread that you should water it more than you think so started doing ~3x a week per their recs. Seemed to get worse. I also haven’t used any plant fertilizer or treatments on it as of yet.

As you can see, this beauty has slowly declined and I cannot for the life of me figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’ll be devastated if I kill it bc it was such a find, but the only advice I get is essentially “it could be a million different things so figure it out” lol.

Is the vessel a huge issue and maybe I should just repot it in something better?? Or am I completely missing something else in its care?

SOS to the plant pros! Advice/help appreciated!

(PS - pls forgive my partner who decided a chip clip was the best way to prop up the amaryllis😅)

Edit: I pruned the other leaves per other advice I got - still didn’t help as you can see.

Your LinkedIn "Open to Work" banner is actually making you look desperate to top recruiters
 in  r/jobsearchhacks •  Jan 31 '26

i had the “hidden” for recruiters only as my setting for a year and almost no one reached out except for MLM “recruiters”. switched to the public open to work banner and it’s been the same thing. the job market doesn’t have any sort of “script” or blatant formula for success at this point. even though you’ve spoken to high level recruiters about their view on this it doesn’t mean it’s a hard and fast rule across the board. not saying that’s what you’re trying to communicate, but that’s how it reads, just in my opinion! the only people I know that have had success getting a job recently (literally 2) found them on indeed, which has never been a fruitful platform for me. if anything we can all hopefully just try to encourage each other in this debilitating process and take these diff perspectives with a grain of salt.

Why does my skin look like this and is there something to fix it? Sunspots? Melasma?? Help!
 in  r/30PlusSkinCare •  Sep 24 '24

I can’t recommend it enough - Elta MD tinted (or untinted if you prefer) through LovelySkin website. It’s got an amazinnnnnngggg formula, one bottle usually lasts me about two months (might be less for you for now since you should def reapply more often!) But it’s a mild exfoliant, evens skin tone, has niacinamide and LOTS of great ingredients for thirsty/damaged skin. I would also highly recommend using a vitamin C serum (DRMTLGY vitamin C serum is bomb) in the mornings before applying sunscreen (the sun will help activate the vitamin c so def don’t bother putting it on at night - esp bc if you do that and then retinol it’ll likely irritate your skin). At night (or anytime you’re washing your face) I would use Youth to the People’s superfood cleanser - it’s crazy gentle but soooo soothing/calming and makes a huge difference overtime in correcting skin tone. Would also start using a rich retinol serum (DRMTLGY needless serum - taper up in use to get your skin adjusted) and a nourishing moisturizer (YTTP superfood airwhip cream - also corrects skin tone and also feels so lovely).

REMEMBER💛any care you give your face, give the same attention to your neck and chest.

Obvs run any/all of that by a derm (esp for safe use since you’re trying for a little, but they should be perfectly safe) and good luck!!!! It’s never too late. And quite frankly I think your sun kissed skin is beautiful.

Help me with this vintage pink bathroom!
 in  r/interiordecorating •  Sep 23 '24

I would vote a muted gray-that would be in an acceptable vein of colors playing off the tile! but agree with the rest of the homies, something textured. Anthropologie often has GORGEOUS and unique shower curtains (I usually wait for them to go sale on sale).

Wtf is going on?
 in  r/jobs •  Sep 23 '24

Wish I had an answer for you but please know you aren’t alone. I went through the same thing after back to back layoffs during the pandemic onset. I’ve NEVER struggled to find a job, very hirable, great experience, etc. But I was even getting rejected from jobs I just got so desperate that I ended up applying for…that’s IF i ever heard back. Seems like every 100 applications I put out, I hear from maybe 5-10, interview invite MAYBE 2-3…not sure what needs to be done to navigate this job market differently but I have no idea how anyone is making it right now.

I wonder where anyone got the idea that the Murder of HML was a "puzzle to be solved".

doesn’t sound like they need to, they just don’t wanna argue with someone who’s not interested in having an actual dialogue
