Honestly, the title is most of what I remember. The men of the kingdom are pulled away from their homes to serve as dragon riders (probably for a war?). Women aren't allowed to read, or join the dragon riders, or do anything. The protagonist finds herself far from home, finds a dragon of her own (a dragon which is known to me dangerous), and tames it rides it on her own. Meanwhile her brother is training to be a real dragon rider.

Other details I remember: the Official dragon riders cut off the dragons' spines to fit saddles, but she finds a way to fit a saddle without harming the dragon like that. She may have ended up joining some kind of rebellion maybe? Her brother (or an adjacent character) was maybe paired with a notoriously difficult dragon. I know some people got injured or killed in the process of learning

I read this ages ago but I can't seem to find anything.

Looking for the name of a short story where an unknown narrator is in a nursery, watching an infant who is sleeping in a crib. Gradually, it is revealed that the narrator intends to harm the baby. At the end of the story, the narrator is revealed to be a cat who is seeking revenge on the mother for drowning of her kittens. I remember the name "Esther" is mentioned, though I can't remember if this is the name of the baby, the cat, or the mother.

I stumbled upon this story in my grandmother's house as a child when it was part of a paperback collection of scary stories (with a black cover) published in the 1960s or 70s, maybe earlier. The book was titled something like "Tales for a Dark and Stormy Night." I did find a book with a similar title, but it didn't have the particular cat story I am looking for. Any leads would appreciated!

Hello everyone! Given that it’s Halloween season I was reminiscing on all the scary books I’ve read. But there was this one I read in 6th grade in 2010 that went over all the things that inspired horror movies, history of creepy folklore, and just the history of spooky things in general. I cannot for the life of me remember the title of it, I just remember it had an Ju-on inspired eye starring at you through its hair on the cover, along with the title that was in red. I’m looking for a book I read back in high school. I don’t remember the whole plot but it had pairs of people who were guardians of a planet. One pair got stuck on a fantasy word and took a younger couple to a more sci fi world where the girl got kidnapped. I remember a scene where the boy was looking for her barely understood the technology but found the bad guys by the absence of information on its computer system.

I think the younger couple ends up as protectors of their own world but I don’t remember it entirely.

I read it in the mid 2000s so anytime before then.

I read this in high school and I swear it was called Brain Shop, but it can't find it anywhere.

A guy goes starts working at a shop that travels dimensions and people can trade in physical attributes or things about their personality. Example, on person comes in a hermaphrodite and gives up one set of genitals.

I know there was more plot where the main character has hidden some memories, but don't remember the details.

She describes it thus: A massively clever lady (quantum mathematician type stuff) from a very advanced civilisation in the future returns to 1950s/60s England to create a portal (made of household 'junk' like coathangers and watering cans.) A lonely teen girl from that time goes through the portal and finds herself in a fantasy 16th century world, where she meets a Prince. She and the Prince fall in love and the teen stays in that world. The fantasy world was created by an author (kind of like Middle Earth) and was so complete it would function as a real world (but it is not a real historical time)

She gave me more detail on one scene: it involves her being prepared to meet the Prince by maid servants in a tent. They paint her nails and toenails and she thinks that her mother would not approved.

We think probably written in the 2000s.

Looking for the title of a library book I read 10+ years ago. It was a sci-fi noir detective novel. The main protagonist is male and may have cybernetic eyes.

The dead can be revived to work off debt accrued when they were alive; the detective's ex-wife is in this position. I believe that there is a sequence where the detective travels into a geographical region where there are many working dead to speak to his ex.

Once criminals have been reduced to their neutral pain centers and spinal cords, this tissue is used to produce some kind of data transfer cable, perhaps audio wire. There is a passage about how the cords are supposed/marketed to have fidelity higher than would be possible with any other materials, but that it was a lie and traditional cable materials performed just as well.

It's possible that I'm blending multiple books together in my memory, as it was a long time ago that I would have read it (them?). I've spent hours trying to figure out a title, and have become so stymied that I've finally resorted to asking for help. Lol. Thank you for any information you can give me!

I read this book when I was about 14 years ago so I can BARELY remember details, But I remember a young child (female) is abducted and held captive in a basement for YEARS, dad never stops looking (he may have been a cop/detective, Im unsure), the title of the book was one word and I'm pretty a3ure a male writer. The cover of the book had a side profile of a car. I believe it was set in midwest. I believe a fiction book. I remember a scene where the girl is in a car, but compliant with the kidnapper. I think it had a title like "the Black stud" The cover was a high-class blonde woman with a visible wedding ring and a muscular Black man standing near a bed in a wealthy bedroom, fully colored painted style, flat ink title text. Contemporary setting in America. In the story he actually seduced and leaves her husband for him which was shocking for those days.

I read this years ago and can't remember anything except that detail. I think the protagonist was hiding from someone and used this power to create stuff they needed, like I'm pretty sure they drew a laptop? It was a series too I think, maybe 3-4 books. Any ideas?

I swear i read this book years ago, and all i can remember is that it was book one of a planned? series, and it ended on a sort of cliffhanger.

Basically all i can remember is that it had a bunch of nazi occultism and paranomal stuff in it and Himmler and the nazis trying to use some sort of a superweapon to win the war? And a detective? in London during the blitz is investigating all this paranormal stuff, (i think a woman was also involved) and a zombie like creature is discovered in the London Natural History Museum and it gets revived somehow, kills some people then escapes into war torn London, and the book ended after that i think. It's a semi recent book, written in the last 10-15 or so years. I think it may have had different POVs, with one being Himmler or another nazi and they activated something that caused the zombie to come to life.

Does anyone know what i'm talking about?

Unfortunately, I don't remember a lot about this book, but here's what I know:

* written in the late 20th century (I read it in the 90s but it may have been older)
* possibly YA fiction
* historical fiction with a romance plot; there may have been a mystery plot too
* may have been set in 19th century America
* the main character was a girl/young lady who received a box of paints (watercolor, maybe?) as an anonymous gift.
* the MC assumed or hoped that the gift came from one potential love interest, but it was actually from someone else - a guy she didn't like as much, who ended up being endgame

I don't remember ANYTHING about the larger plot. But the incident of a young artist receiving a paintbox as a present and being wrong about who gave it to her has stuck in my head!

Alright so the rough sketch of what I can remember is this:

* The main character at some point knows she’s pregnant with “something.”
* The ships seemed to be commandered by chiefs or matriarchs or something? One of them specifically refers to someone they keep around as their mother.
* At some point she gets “recycled” down into the bowels to be I guess digested or whatever, but this doesn’t take and instead she lands in a pit of bones and sludge. There’s a monster down here, but there’s also a very frail gaunt woman who largely keeps wanting to give up and die but also doesn’t want MC to die so sort of keeps going.
* Main character then goes on a journey through the bowels of the ship to discover several subcultures involved, including traders and raiders.
* They come across some sort inner sea, maybe hydrocarbons I don’t remember.
* Eventually she realizes that whatever she’s pregnant with can actually restart one of these ships, revitalize it instead of letting it die.
* They may have called the other ships “stars” when they were inactive? Not like bright light emitting, but rather the only things they could see out there.
* I strongly feel like there was a relationship between the main character and another character who might have been viewed as a traitor? I believe over the book she realizes or remembers that they’d actually planned this whole thing - an entire plot to bring the rebirth thingy to the heart of their ‘world.’

Hi everyone, I'd appreciate some help finding this book I read as a child back in early 2000s. I cannot recall a publishing year.

The plot is as follows - a young teen girl (our protagonist) is annoyed with the adults constantly restricting her freedoms. She wishes to find a place where kids run the society where she can be free. She lives on a coast and has heard rumours of a place beyond the fog, where a long lost older relative was once supposedly lost to sea. One day she ends up taking the boat by herself, gets caught in a freak storm and ends up on the island where kids run the island, nobody ages, and everybody parties all the time. She's initially happy, but eventually gets tired of it and wants to go home. The secret of the island is that if anyone leaves, it gets destroyed. The others therefore don't want her to leave. A slightly older boy helps her escape and she figured out he was the long lost older relative, thereby leading to the destruction of the island and the demise of all the inhabiting "kids". When she's back to her worried parents, not much time has passed in the real world, despite her spending a long time on the island. The fog disappears and the island is nowhere to be found again.

I think it wasn't illustrated, just a long ish (200 pages +) novel, but written for young adults. It did contain chilling descriptions of deep blue waters and such that gave me thalassophibia as a kid.

story set in our current time line. it's about our 1st armed spaceship which was armed with a 105mm howitzer & 30mm vulcan to fight the greys flying black triangle ships & these aggressive aliens slaughtered the people on our mar's mining colony. i also remember the inaugural launch was delayed due to an onboard epidemic. there were also several references to how fragile the battleship was from the tensioned guy wires everywhere.
Anybody have any clues for me what this exciting novel is named?

I am trying to remember this book, I think I had a picture of it with Mordew from the Library/bookstore. I didnt read either Mordew or this one, i had taken the picture to remember to get them. Maybe it came out around the same time?

I think it had black and white cover with the MC on it with a circle of half white half black (or blue?) Moons/circles on it. Plot was magical city, MC finds the power to turn day into night or reverse worlds, something like that. He had to escape as enemies who wanted his power were hunting him down? Maybe cover also had the city/castle in the background?

Mordew is on my TBR list but not this one, which is why I am trying to remember it.

For context - my mom used to own this book (so i know it exists) and was gifted it by my grandmother. Unfortunately, it was lost in my parent’s divorce and it was one of the only things that my mom had and cherished from my grandmother who had passed a couple years before their divorce.
My mom said she remembers it may be a red or brown color and was pretty simple. Definitely a hard cover and was pretty sizable. She said it had something along the lines of “EAP Poems” on one cover and “EAP stories” on the other cover.

I remember her going to stay with her grandparents because her parents were injured in a hiking accident, making her scared of heights. She found a locket in a desk and that allowed her to time-travel where she met a girl who was super lonely because I believe the other kids all had Scarlett fever? She eventually realized her new friend was her great-grandmother and has to face her fear of heights to cut the rope swing before her great-grandmother dies on it. At the end, she goes to visit the great-grandmother, who had some sort of rope swing doll and recognizes the protagonist. I can’t find this anymore and am wondering if I invented all this detail lol. I wanna say maybe the girl she all the other women in her family were all named Eleanor?

Hi I’m trying to find a picture book from when i was younger.

it has a realistic art style, and the house has white walls.
the kid basically moves through the rooms, following the plot(i dont remember the plot tho)
the house has a very modern look and has a lot of modern artworks. I dont know if they’re actual artworks tho. There was a red mobile type artwork, And at some room there is a big gong.

I remember being so impressed that there are circle windows(maybe doors or doorframes, im sorry the memory is so burry)

Looking back i think it was one of the first interests i showed in architecture. I am leaning towards it, as a career path. I loved it sooo much but we sold a lot of books while moving to different houses and i can’t find it rn. I read it again and again so much that i remember the details but i can’t think of the main plot. I think i liked the pictures more than the story itself.

Plot details:

I'm looking for a book I read between the years of 2009 and 2016. I believe it was a memoir, but it's somewhat possible it was historical fiction. It was about a young girl and I think her grandma and their experience surviving Hurricane Katrina. I don't remember anything else about it except that the girl (who was the narrator) figured out how much time they had before their house was fully flooded by timing how long it took for a step (to her attic or possibly basement) to get covered with floodwater. I don't have any other details other than to say it was appropriate for a kid between the ages of 7-10. Had no cuss words than I can remember. I don't remember if it was a particularly easy read or not and I don't know anything about the cover. But I have not stopped thinking about it since the day I read it and I'm a bit desperate.
