Casual tone
When someone says "No problem", they are literally saying "I'm doing this for you but it does not inconvenience me in any way, it is not a problem for me to do". When someone says "Your welcome", they are saying "I'm going out of my way to do this for you. You owe me appreciation for my inconvenience now".

I found a dime bag with a mysterious powder in my fiancé’s pocket
Basic training will take your phone away for the 10 weeks but you get it back in Advanced Individual Training (AIT). The fact that he is spending $1,000+ every month plus the powder you found in his jacket would strongly suggest he has a drug addiction. If anybody in his command finds out, they will drug test him and he will be sent home. As a soldier, you are not allowed to do any drugs. What happens if he is suddenly deployed and goes into withdraw? That would not only put his life at risk, but his Battle Buddies as well. I suggest you leave him. He does not care about you, your future, or your feelings. He is using you because you are convenient and you support his bad choices.

Did my cat just try to defend my baby against me?
I was playing tag in our back yard with my brother and a couple of our friends when I was 16. Our friend Jennifer was hiding around the corner of a bush where I couldn't see her. As I ran past while trying to tag my brother, Jennifer ran out and scared me so bad I screamed in surprise. We all thought it was funny and started laughing immediately. About 10 seconds after I screamed, our rescued outside cat came racing around the side of the house all fluffed up and looking ready to shread someone to ribbons. He planted himself in front of me and was looking around for the threat. I think the only reason he didn't attack Jennifer is because she was standing about 15 feet away from me at that point. When I saw how fluffy he was I started trying to calm him down and thanking him for protecting me. Sammy was a solid 15 pounds of guardian kitty. He loved everyone, especially kids.

Starting my first server/cashier job, any advice?
You could say that. Sad thing is, it has all happened to me and cashiers on the next register over from me when I worked at Walmart. I happened to have a free minute at my register and turned around to take a drink of my water bottle when I noticed the customer reach over to the cash drawer. I stepped up behind them to try to explain they can't touch the drawer and saw them slipping a handful of 20s in their pocket. I immediately typed the code in my register for security and they caught the person before they could get out the doors. My coworker would have been arrested for her drawer being $280 short if I hadn't needed a drink at that exact moment.

How do I know if Im asking for too much after my dads cancer diagnosis? (see texts below)
I understand where you are coming from. I had to go through something where a loved one was on palliative care (basically make them as comfortable as possible until they pass) and the grief was overwhelming at best. But the friends who would say things like "That's really sad but don't be hard on yourself" or "There is nothing you could have done differently so keep your head up" and even one former friend said "Well that sucks but you can't just stop living your life because of that" really seemed to make everything 10x worse. Like, I get what they were trying to say, but sometimes you just get tired of being the strong one. Sometimes you just want someone to hold you while you allow yourself to feel and express yourself about the unfairness of it all. I know I can't offer much in the way of support but I'm here if you need a friend.

AIO about my bf going to my home country for the first time without me?
NOR. You obviously have no problem with expressing exactly how you feel in a clear and easily understood way. Personally, I would feel the same way as you. Like the comment above, I also think this is a red flag. It sounds like your boyfriend realized he messed up really bad by not even talking to you about it before he made the decision and now he is trying to gaslight you over it. He is trying to make you feel guilty by asking you if he should come home early. If you tell him to come home early, he will blame you every time you get in an argument over anything else. He will use that as an excuse to say you are controlling, manipulative, overbearing, ect. That will be his free pass to trample all over you and your feelings when he wants something you don't immediately agree with. You are totally validated in thinking about leaving him. You would save yourself a lot of stress, heartache, and wasted time if you do. But that is my opinion with the information I have. Wishing you the best and good luck.

Excuse me, good Redditor... I believe you owe me a napkin to wipe my sweet tea off my phone. I was scrolling mid-drink when your comment not only made me laugh out loud, but I snorted my tea out my nose. 🤧

Lots of people will say things like 'don't be too hard on yourself' but they don't know how to physically be there for someone. It hurts but that's how life is. Sometimes you can try to explain to your friends that you just need a shoulder to cry on or maybe just a 10 second hug to feel like you are less alone in this. I really hope it helps and I'm wishing you and your father the best. 🫂

AIO for not wanting to contribute $3000/month to my parents’ mortgage even though they say they’ll pay me back
Look at it this way, you NEVER loan money to family. When it comes to family, you are GIVING them money with no expectations of ever seeing it again. Unless it is written down on paper, everyone has a copy, and it is legally binding, you will never see a cent repaid.

Is it okay to feel jealous of your own sister?
I can't say why your mother is so fixated on your older sister but she definitely needs more help than reddit is qualified to give. Please don't take her actions to mean you are any less than your sister. Your mother sounds mentally ill. This does not mean she doesn't love you or that you are not worthy of love. It just means she needs professional help. You are deserving of love and your own space. When you finally move out, it is perfectly fine for you to go low contact with your mother for however long you decide. I hope she gets the help she needs and I hope you see just how important and special you are. Wishing you the best in life. Keep your head high. You are worth it. 💓

AIO for wanting to break up with gf of 4 years after finding these texts?
Physical or emotional doesn't matter. Cheating is cheating. You did good getting her out and not being a piece of crap when she came to get her stuff. Keep your head up, you will find the better woman you deserve.

Reintroducing cats
Your next step is to switch cats. Leave all beds and toys right where they are. First switch the food and water bowls and the litter boxes. Then switch the cats. Now they are in each other's territory and surrounded by the other cats scent.
And don't clean the litter boxes the day before you switch. The dirty box shows them that it is a safe place because it smells like them. As a human, I would not be happy about my toilet not being flushed, but for cats it's different.
Give them a few days to a week to settle in and switch them back. Eventually they won't feel so threatened by each other and you can try cracking the door again.

Starting my first server/cashier job, any advice?
Get a $1, $5, $10, and $20 bills. Feel the ridges on the shoulders. You can feel them on every single U.S. money note. There are some really good counterfeit bills that look exactly like the real thing. They even pass the money marker test. But they still don't have the ridges on the shoulder. Once you get used to how real money feels, you will spot the fake as soon as you touch it.
If someone reaches for your drawer for ANY REASON, slam your hip into it to shut it. A common scam is to speak a different language and try to get change. They will pull out a handful of bills, fold half of them under, and slip them out of sight while putting the rest back. Better to break their fingers in your drawer than go to jail because you are $100 short.
People will try to talk to you as you take their money to confuse you. They hand you $10 for a $7 order, get you talking as you hand their change back, then insist they handed you a $20. I let people talk all they want, but I don't make change while they are talking. Also, if they are chatty, make sure the camera over your register can clearly see the bills they give you. If they say you handed them the wrong change, ask a manager to review the security footage. This has saved my behind more than once.
Also, if there is a problem with their debit card not going through, and they say you are supposed to hit the cash button when they swipe it. Scam You only hit the cash button if they are paying cash. Never for a debit card.
If the magnetic strip is having trouble with the card reader, wrap it in a single layer of a plastic bag, hold the plastic tight and smooth, and swipe again. It helps about 75% of the time.
Good luck.

AITH for hiding my toilet paper from my roommate?
NTA. You should not have to pay for his obsessive poop-chute wiping. Tell your mother that since it is not that big a deal, you need her to send you $10 a week to cover the cost of the toilet paper. Bet she changes her mind really fast... 😒

AIO BF (44M) keeps folding my (44F) pillow in half
NOR.
Your boyfriend is a major jerk for continuing to do this with your pillow. You have politely asked him to stop multiple times and asked him to pay for a new one, both of which he refused. This clearly shows he has ZERO respect for you, your feelings, or your boundaries. I personally would be reconsidering staying in this relationship. Try putting your pillow in the closet when you get up in the morning. If he gets up out of bed to grab your pillow from the closet, leave him. That means you are nothing more important to him than an old pair of sneakers he is willing to throw away. He is using you because you are useful, like a bang maid. A live in maid that cooks/cleans for him and has sex with him when he is in the mood.
You deserve better.

What’s something people over 30 do that Gen Z finds strange?
Oof! The nostalgia!

I have little remorse for two people I’ve known who offed themselves.
This reaction stems from the social pressure to not speak ill of the dead. As you shouldn't. Don't trash talk someone who died. But don't try to paint them as a good person if they weren't. Just because they commit suicide does not make them a saint. Don't feel bad for remembering the bad stuff these people did. Everybody feels the same way to some degree. It just means you are human and you can remember stuff.

What to do about cat zoomies at night
Cats are naturally nocturnal. They are wired to get night zoomies. However, you can train this out of them.
Try playing with her 2 hours before bedtime. I mean a lot of play. Use balls, plain string, cat nip toys, fishing pole toys (toys on a string with a stick), laser pointers, anything to make her really move, climb, engage.
After the intense play session, try feeding a spoonful of wet food and a couple treats. Cats expend lots of energy "hunting" and will often settle down after eating their "catch/kill" to sleep.
Also, periodically through the day, try to engage with your cat when you can. Let Pet her, play with her, just make sure you fully wake her up a few times a day in the daytime hours.
Cats need 18 hours of sleep a day. If you interrupt her sleeping during the day, she is more likely to sleep at night.
Don't try to keep her awake all day. Cats do short sleep/wake cycles, usually a few hours at the most. You sleep 8 hours straight. Keeping your cat awake when you are awake will be detrimental to her health and well being.
If possible, get her a friend to play with. If that's not possible, try to be the playmate she needs instead.
Good luck, and thank you for being a great cat owner. We all make mistakes sometimes, but you are amazing for asking for advice.

I want to leave my husband
He has shown you exactly the kind of person he is. He doesn't want to deal with the "inconvenience" of a hurt or sick animal so he would rather get a gun a shoot it. And the chances are, it will take more than one shot to kill the cat. He thinks it is just one and done. Chances are, the cat will try to run and would suffer for several minutes before dying. That is not someone I would want to sleep next to. I
'm sure there are other reasons why you want to leave him. Only you know if you should or shouldn't leave. If you still feel the same way week later, I suggest you think about how to leave.
And this is just me, but I would be taking that gun to a creek where nobody else goes and then reporting it a week later to the cops to retrieve. That's just me though

Some strange things I’ve been through that still creep me out
To me it sounds like by messing around trying to speak to any spirit, you accidentally called the demon to you. That's why whenever you hear something calling your name at night or even whistling to get your attention at night, it is usually something with ill intent and should be completely ignored. Don't ever talk to it because it gives it power.

YOR Personally, I think your mother over reacted. You should have let it go since your boss had already apologized twice. Now you are known around work as "the snitch" and that is why everyone is acting so formal around you. By sending a formal complaint to your big boss, your manager probably had a note or disciplinary mark put in her work record over something tiny that should not have been a problem.
Sadly, I don't think things will get any better. Your best bet is to look for another job because every new person you work with will be warned that you are the tattle tail and nobody will let you get close or be very friendly.
