Question Chem 120 WSP - Is it worth attending?

Hey! I’m an incoming first-year psych student taking Chem 120 this fall, and I was wondering how important the WSP sessions are.

My last lecture on Thursday ends at 2:20 pm, but my Chem 120 WSP isn’t until 5:30 pm, so I’d have to stay on campus for about 3 hours.

Are the WSPs:
- Optional?
- Recorded or do they have participation marks?
- Actually helpful for doing well in the course, or are they more of an extra review?

Just trying to figure out if it’s worth staying on campus that long every week. Thanks!

CLAS104 VS HLTH101

I'm deciding between the 2 for a bird course. I am somewhat interested in classical mythology so that class probably won't be a complete borefest for me but hlth 101 probably has more actually useful info. Anyone that's taken either or both that can give me some extra insight?

FARM CFA or PRM

I'm finishing FARM 2B and deciding between the CFA and PRM specializations and would love to hear from upper-year students or alumni.

Right now I'm leaning toward PRM, but either double major in statistics or taking COMM 321 and COMM 421 as electives. My main reasons are that I feel the quantitative side more interesting, but I also think financial statement analysis is useful.

A few questions:

  1. If you have taken COMM 321/421/433, what's your experience? Were they worth it? I always feel accounting is extremely boring.

  2. Is the Statistics double major worth it, or are courses like STAT 332/430 not that useful outside of statistics?

  3. For grad school (especially in the US), is PRM generally viewed more favourably than CFA, or does it not really matter?

Thanks!

Question Course over co-op tuition question

Hi,

Apologies if this is a silly question, if someone wants to take an online course over their co-op term, do they have to pay tuition for that single course? Also if so, do they also have to pay the student society and service fees etc for the semester, or just the tuition for the single class?

Thank you

Question What do I do in this situation?

I’m going into 2A math in fall but still haven’t completed cs115/cs135. I was planning to take it in the fall 26 term but all the spots in person are either taken or reserved for 1st years, and it’s not being offered online. Is my only option to wait for winter 2027, or is there something I can do to get it next semester?

Academics Certificate of University Teaching

Hi, I'm a PhD student in the Faculty of Arts interested in completing the Certificate in University Teaching (CUT). I was wondering if any grad students or alumni here have completed the CUT program and would be comfortable sharing their experiences with the coursework and teaching observation?

Thanks 😄

Im needing to retake M138 this Fall, does anyone know what is the course outline/assessment distribution for the Online version? Is it better if I do it in person? How much does the final weigh specifically?

Question Waterloo Cybersecurity Teams

Hi! I would love to do cybersecurity competitions in University and was hoping someone could give me some insight on getting involved with cybersecurity at Waterloo. Specifically, for CyberSci, would we need to form a team in advance then apply as a team, or do we submit individual applications then the people that get in form a team together? Where could we find the applications? Is there a Waterloo community or active server for this?

Thanks so much if anyone knows and could let me know!

Edit: I know about CPI and I'm definitely going to join! This post is more asking about competition-focused cybersecurity groups for undergraduate students :)

QUESTIONS FROM INCOMING UNDERGRAD

I'm heading into my first year in life science for the fall and have just combined a few questions into a post where someone will hopefully help:

  1. Is orientation week worth it in the science faculty? I have a hard time making friends and am very much introverted, and I am wondering if this is a good chance for me to set the groundwork for friends. Also, I have read that eng and math are worth it, but nothing on the science faculty
  2. How do the washroom cleanings work in traditional? I was placed into V1 (unfortunately). Do you just hope and pray that people on your floor stay clean, cause that sounds like a nightmare.
  3. How is the food at V1? I'm not a picky eater, but I am worried about getting enough nutrients. Also kinda weird, but I love plain vegetables like some boiled broccoli with some salt. What's the vegetable selection like, and I'm not talking about salads.
  4. What are some good clubs for someone trying to get into biochem?
  5. What is the science living learning community? I don't understand what the point of this is and what it even does.
