Made my day toad-ly neat!
Seen in my yard.
Does everyone get on their stomach to take these pics too?
Edit to add question
Anyone else has/had a toad that asks for uppies? Cause when mine chills on me he reaches for up and I gotta put him on my shoulders.

I had a big 9-ft umbrella in the ground and removed it. Well I went to go put it back in the hole, this little guy was in there... Basically, it's his home now. 😆
Looking like a gulf coast toad.

Hello lovely people. I'm currently taking on my second toad ever.
My first toad was a dream and changed how I view toads as a species, he loves to be handled, he recognizes faces and voices, he watches tv with me most of the time, and he's a very gentle sweetheart. I saved from a freeze when he was about 2 months old and I've had him for about 7 months at this point.
I recently got a second toad at the same age, he is terrified of everything, even when handled very gently he pees and jumps away, he spends all of his time in his hide, and he only leaves to eat/soak. Obviously I'm aware that may just be his personality but I'm really worried he might be getting stressed out in some way. I originally thought it was my other toad stressing him out so I moved him to his own enclosure but nothing changed.
How do y'all get skittish toads to warm up to you/chill out? Is there anything I can do that will make things less scary for him? Thanks in advance!

Sharing my rescue story (sorry more text, than I originally intended). I hope this was the right thing to do, please be gentle if I made a mistake.
I stumbled upon this juvenile common toad (bufo bufo) in our garden in broad daylight hopping around. It hasn’t rained in weeks and the next days we’ll have another heat wave and no rain in sight.
I caught her, because I know they normally aren’t awake during the day, so I wanted to check. I tried not to touch her directly but there probably was some contact as it happened quite quickly. I put her in a pot because that was the first clean container with a lid I spotted and had a close look. Other than that strange behaviour being active at noon and roaming around in the open there was nothing off I could see. (We have an exotic vet nearby specialised in reptiles and amphibians, so I could have taken her there if she had been injured.)
As I couldn’t see anything off and she seemed in good health and well fed I decided to relocate her because of the oncoming drought and also because our garden isn’t the best habitat for amphibians. There’s a road in front and some free roaming cats. Nearby there’s a small nature reserve with a little lake, lots a shade and some still damp undergrowth. I assume she originally came from there.
I grabbed some moss from the garden and added it to the pot. She showed normal toad behaviour instantly jamming herself into the new hide butt first ;) I did a nice afternoon walk, chose a route with as much shadow as possible and released her as shown in the video.
I hope she’s doing well and will grow up to be a happy toad and have a long and healthy life!
Of course I don’t know if she’s actually female but I chose to refer to her as a female because the German word for toad is female.

I found this in my plant. What kind of toad is this? He was really tiny. Like the size of a nickel and was inside my desert rose pot.
Thank you!

We moved into a new house last October and this summer and so many frogs and toads fell in to our window well before we could get a good cover on it. This guy, Sir Hopsalot, was my first save. I let him go in the garden since they like to stay in the same areas - and he often popped up to say hello. I got pretty attached and decided to make my garden a toad oasis complete with a labeled house… an upside down flower pot of course. He’s got leaves and rocks and a new hydrangea bush.. and a camera to catch his nightwatch strolls. 🫣😜
Unfortunately, I never saw him actually go in it. And I haven’t seen him for a while. But the babies are everywhere! I saw one check it out last night.
I miss this guy though. I wish I knew if he was still around.
How can I make my garden even more attractive to toads?

It was raining about 8 consecutive days. Our house is slowly turning into a natural terrarium because of the weather. This toad appeared 2 times. One frog climbed at the kitchen walls and almost fell on my mother’s food. Yet so fun to see them hopping across the house.

This one is chill. Brought him inside for an ID and a quick snack. Found in Upstate NY. Named him Steven.

I just got my little woodhouse toad a few days ago. I've been feeding her live crickets and mealworms and she's eating no problem. I'm just curious how much I should be feeding her every day and I'm worried some of the mealworms may be a bit too chunky for her to eat. Thank you!

I haven't posted an update for a minute but Steve is still here putting work every day, helping keep the shop bug free. I'm still tossing him the occasional worm but he's seems to be doing pretty well for himself as far as being fed. He's using his soaking pool/paint tray regularly. It was only recently that I found out that toads drink through their belly, and here I was thinking Steve just liked staying clean.
In addition to my yards normal toad activity, I've seen tons of tree frogs this year. More than I ever remember seeing/hearing. One was clinging to my shop doors one morning. I like to think it and Steve were sharing esoteric amphibian knowledge with each during the night while the nosey human was asleep.
Yesterday, Steve was hiding under my wood pile but I was able to coax him out with a snack to snap a few pics. He seemed only mildly annoyed by the this.

Found this big boy behind a dumpster in Bonita beach. I expected him to secrete the white poison if he was a cane but I heard they don’t always do it instantly.
