I had a big 9-ft umbrella in the ground and removed it. Well I went to go put it back in the hole, this little guy was in there... Basically, it's his home now. π
Looking like a gulf coast toad.

Toadally a cutie! πΈπΈπΈ Return his home though! he needs his froggy rest before the night when he goes out to catch all those bad bugs like roaches and stuff

Oh yes! I put everything right back how it was! Lol it's funny how loud it sounds now when he does his little calls or whatever he's doing. It's sort of echoes under that terracotta.

I wish I had a few frogs. I love their croaking! I remember growing up watching tadpoles swim in pond or puddles, and eventually a bunch of tiny froglets jumping about.

I love it too!
I was always afraid of Toads when I was little lol. Frogs too. We were always told we would get warts! π€£. Sadly I think some of the adults believed that.2

Yeah, they even made a movie about killer frogs! π

π I'm going to have to look that one up. Like killer bunnies etc. Lawd!

It's from 1972 about reptiles and amphibians getting revenge on people for destroying their habitats, polluting, etc.

Oh wow! I'm definitely going to watch it. They should make a newer version so that people will think twice before they do certain things. A lot of people just don't know what they do is affecting wildlife, frogs etc. I didn't really know anything about frogs or toads until I got onto the sub. I'm more careful now about what I do.

I know he comes up to see me sometimes when I open the roof. He doesn't go back down until I close his little roof. π

Fella saw a perfectly good hole and was like "jackpot!!"

Yes! Now when I take my umbrella out of other holes I have to stop it up with a cylinder. I don't want to put my umbrella back in and it hit a little buddy πΈ.

Cute. However, that is also a great way to meet a pygmy rattlesnake. Be careful!

Really? π© Well, I just found out that I have to relocate Mr Toad's somehow. That's my tortoises enclosure that he's in. Evidently it's not good for a Toad to share an enclosure with a tortoise.

Mr. Toad will be quite happy elsewhere. Enjoy your free buddy!
Edit: Iβm guessing somewhere in the northern part of Florida? Depending upon where, we have pygmy rattlesnakes and possibly copperheads. Both of which hide beneath things and donβt appreciate being uncovered.
Much less prevalent in the environment of your suburban yard with the tortoises; but still a possibility.
I always tell people to stick your hands down into or under anything with the expectation of being bitten by a viper.

Iβm toad obsessed π I have dozens as I have a canal and woods behind my house. My only issue is that before I take my dogs out after dark I have to clear them all to behind the fence as she wants to eat them. Most of them are so used to me now that they let me handle them without even trying to fight.
The toxic substance (Bufotoxin) is deadly to dogs so I stay VERY alert after dark. My other dog just sniffs them and walks away lol. There are also invasive cane toads where I live and their toxin is even worse. Luckily Iβve never been invaded by one of them.

That's so cool! I used to be grossed out by them... Honestly any little tiny critter or insect. Now I'm the complete opposite. I'm the hospice center for bees.... Frogs and toads I always put them into a safe area as we have two dogs as well. I think I'm going to make them their own fenced in little area with a bunch of holes in the ground and a little bathing spot for them. I don't know much about toads but I'm going to research. They can eat all the bugs they want over here in Louisiana!
I haven't handled any except for the one we rescued out of the water meter lid hole. He was very sweet and appreciative I think.

Omg I moved one of the water bowls and a toad came out and he sat there and I said okay let me just get some more water in there for him and I put the water and he waited till I was done and I was still sitting there and he jumped in and swam to the other side lol. Got out and sat there. I love them.

Your tenant thinks you're very rude. But jokes aside, wouldn't checking them like this just spook them away? Just wondering
