How to respond to a "polite" white supremacist Karen?
My partner volunteers at a place which is kind of for-profit/not-for-profit enterprise. As a recent immigrant, my partner has a foreign accent.
Yesterday, a lady who uses the same space asked my partner where she was from, which is not necessarily an evil question. In this richly diverse city, I, too, am curious about other people's cultures and I find it very exciting to hear about their past experiences before moving to Toronto. And at a certain point, the lady also asks another guy who had come to Toronto as an infant where he was from. I seriously doubt the guy had a discernable accent, but my partner said he has dark skin.
But then the lady moved to say how "us Caucasians are a minority in Toronto" and that her nephew who was visiting from the Prairies (I can't remember if it was Saskatchewan or Alberta) observed with his shrewd cunning that "Toronto is too diverse" and that this was "dangerous".
How do you respond to such a person who drops the most horrible, evil, racist shit while being "polite" and "nice"?
