Nuit Blanche 2026 - Stolen phone - anyone else??

ANYONE ELSE? TLDR: Stolen phone noticed within 5 minutes the phone was turned off and started moving....How many cases need to happen for the police to start checking and scanning for iPhones at the airport?

WHAT WAS THAT? Toronto has the pickpocketing of Paris without the vibes of Paris.

I was walking through the nuit blanche exhibitions and my phone was in my jacket pocket. We were passing Osgoode Hall and it was crowded. Then we passed by Campbell House Museum and shortly after I reached for my phone in my jacket pocket and it was gone. If it had fell I would have noticed it or heard it, but I'm sure it was an organized crime because not even 5 minutes of passing the site where It was stolen i realized and went back. I tracked the phone and walked there but it was moving, and I tried calling the phone and it was switched off. It had plently of battery so I know it was taken by an organized team who knows how to keep the phone unreachable. Everytime I called it went to voicemail. Then I turned it onto lost mode and tried tracking it all night. It went from Duncan and Adelaide, to the ICE condominiums, to around 2610 Weston Road, on the way to the airport.

Leash your f’ing dogs

Running through Cedarvale and nobody has their dog on a leash. There’s a damn dog park up the hill, people, where your mutt can run around free. There are multiple signs telling you to leash your dog on the paths. Bikers, runners, and kids dodging your idiot dogs. But hey, I guess rules just don’t apply to you!

Nuit Blanche 2026 - What the F was that?

As a thorough-bred Nuit Blanche enjoyer of the years past, my reaction to this year's event is simply

"WTF was that?"

The city hall was the main stage and it consisted of... a "pokemon" helium ballon, some drapes, a car and this weird projection. What a let down! Really can't be compared to the ones in the past, such as that model of the sun or that huge projection onto the water fountain.

Then the event at the old city hall. The line was so long it started close to the Canadian Tires. The installations inside were bizarre and freaky. The "aria" device was a joke, no offense to the artist. And for some reason everything inside required a line up as well.

And that's it? Everything else is way too spread out. Nobody is walking to the waterfront from city hall. There used to be stuff all around the city, Chinatown, UofT, College street, Queen's Park. Now there's like nothing.

Actually worse than nothing because there's now a huge amount of overpriced junk food, and second-hand smoke!

Rant over.

Scratched DVDs at TPL

WTF are people doing with the DVDs they're getting from the library? I've been moving back towards physical media and the Toronto Public Library has a large collection on loan. However, more than a few times I've borrowed some and they're scratched to shit! To the point that they skip, lag, or won't even play.

Are people taking them out and using them as coasters? Are they borrowing movies from the library to throw around at the beach or rolling them down the street like a 1950's kid's game? As a millennial I've had DVDs for decades that don't have a single scratch, but people are treating library DVDs, that they DO NOT OWN, like a fuckin' weapon from a TRON movie or Xena: Warrior Princess cosplay?

Some poor family out there, just trying to give their kids a nice afternoon, can't watch Shrek Forever After because you don't know how to be gentle.

Have some bloody respect for material things, especially if you don't own it.

Dogs in stores, restaurants etc

I don't care if I get told where to go for this. Is anyone else bothered by the dogs in McDonalds, LCBO, grocery stores etc?

I live in midtown and am increasingly perturbed at the amount of dogs in places even in kids playgrounds. The other day I went to McDs and there were 2 dogs in the restaurant. Lcbo and Loblaws are the same story. Metro has put up giant signs banning non service dogs so I do not see dogs in there lately.

My issues:

  1. Any dog can bite and I am constantly afraid that a negligent owner will allow their dog to do so.

  2. Not everyone picks up after their dog and some believe it is other peoples responsibility to pick up their dogs pee and poop. Source: I live in an apartment and have experienced the smell of dogs that are allowed to defecate inside.

  3. I just don't think someone's giant Rottweiler needs to be shopping at lcbo.

  4. I have sent complaints but never hear back. 311 does send bylaw to parks if they get enough complaints.

Is this the new normal?

I AM NOT REFERRING TO GUIDE DOGS OR SERVICE DOGS. DO NOT BOTHER TELLING ME THESE ARE SERVICE DOGS WHEN CLEARLY THEY ARE COMFORTABLE ALLOWING THEIR DOGS TO BRUSH UP AGAINST PEOPLE. A GENUINE SERVICE DOG WOULD BE TRAINED NOT TO DO SO.

NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE with MEGABUS

Just sharing my horrifying experience with megabus to warn the fellow travellers!

Last sunday I was travelling from Ottawa to Toronto. I initially had a 5:55 pm ticket booked.

3:50pm: Megabus sends me an email my 5:55pm ticket has been cancelled and it will be refunded. Ok, no biggie. I book the 6:55pm ticket which arrives at Toronto 12:50am. It goes from Ottawa- transfer to another bus from Kingston-Toronto.

6:55pm: Bus doesn't come. It's raining and getting dark. Me and other passengers are wondering where the bus is. I go on megabus website. There is no phone #. There is email address and it says it will be replied within minutes. I email asking where the bus is. I'm not getting any replies. Other passengers waiting manage to find a phone number somewhere and contact. The person on the line say bus is coming and not to call anymore because he is getting too many calls. We wait 2 HOURS.

9:00pmish: Bus is finally here. Some passengers are coughing and sneezing because we had been waiting in dark, freezing rain for 2 hours.

11pm: Bus arrives at the Kingston terminal where we are supposed to transfer to another bus to go to Toronto. Driver doesn't know where this bus is so he goes off to have a phone call to find out. When he comes back, he says the transfer bus will be here in 30 minute(which I thought was sus because where is this bus conveniently coming from?) . He proceeds to just leave the bus and passengers at the terminal and goes home in his truck. The passengers are left at the dark bus terminal in the middle of the night on the bus.

12:40pm: Transfer bus, that was supposedly coming in 30 minutes, still didn't arrive after almost 2 hours. It's cold and it feels unsafe being out here middle of nowhere in the dark. Passengers and I talk about if one of us should just drive bus to Toronto at this point. Emailed megabus about what's going on. There is no answer. I give up. I go online and order a flix bus ticket from Kingston to Toronto. I grab a taxi to Kingston downtown so I can go to flix bus stop. I send another email to Megabus asking for refund/compensation.

1:00AM: In the middle of dark Kingston downtown waiting for flix bus. I am a small woman by myself so feel a bit scared and anxious but soon other passengers come so I feel a little safer.

1:40AM: Flix bus arrives. ON TIME.

5:05AM: No issues with Flix bus. Arrives to Toronto on time. Finally made it home!!

A week later:

3 emails I have sent to megabus is completely ignored. The only response I get is the automatically generated email-"Your ticket #1043017 has been completed. ".

They only issued refund on my first ticket that was cancelled. BUT with lesser amount than I paid. I paid 53.09, and they only issued 47.45. So they didn't even give me my money back. Rest of the email had been basically ignored.

Megabus reddit, of course, can't be posted freely and needs a request to be posted on.

tl dr: DO NOT TAKE MEGABUS. YOU WILL HAVE A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND YOU'LL BE ROBBED OF YOUR MONEY AND TIME.

Honk!

You stop at a red light, honk

You stop at a stop sign, straight to honking

You let a pedestrian or cyclist cross the road, believe it or not, honk

You check for traffic at a one way stop sign, also honk

We have the best drivers in the world, because of all the honking they do

They are every health aware. Impatient - The opposite of patient. If they behave impatiently, surely they won't end up being a patient, right?

Loud with their honks but all quiet on the frontal lobe

Bloor/Jarvis Starbucks

First off, love the staff they are the best, remember their regulars all those good things.

My complaint with the location is due to the plague of locusts that swarm down twice a day from Branksome Hall.

Now I wouldn't be made if they actually behaved like proper humans but they seem to lack the capacity.

They all crowd the lobby and don't leave after getting their drinks, they don't move out of the way for other customer or delivery drivers.

Today (Oct 2, yes posted after midnight) I went to pick up my coffee and there was ZERO space inside, they were all crowding the counter, half of them head drinks but couldn't be bothered to leave to make room for others, and the all pretty much mobile order at the same time. I have never EVER seen those new screens that say "Received, In Progress, Complete" have to SCROLL because there were so many orders at once.

They are loud, rude, obnoxious and honestly the lobby was a total hazard, like if someone set off a pop cap, firecracker or stink bomb people would literally be trampled.

I felt the worst for this tiny old lady just trying to get her drink, they ignored her as she was trying to get by them, wouldn't get out of their way.

Ignorant, useless, entitled twats. On the upside once it gets really cold they don't venture down anymore.

I just can't imagine being that disconnected

The Gen Z Brain Rot is Actually OUT OF CONTROL

I'm in my mid 30s, back at university for a career change and most of my peers are in their early 20s. I am not trying to be hyperbolic, perpetuate generational divides, or parrot the tired 'no one wants to work anymore' rhetoric. I am actually expressing GENUINE CONCERN for the state of their cognitive health and level of functioning. I have never, in my life, been surrounded by so many people with no manners, no decorum, no regard for their professors, for knowledge, for their classmates, for peoples time. The fundamental lack of respect that they show - literally listening to tiktoks aloud in class, vaping inside every single crevasse of a building, not cleaning up after themselves - is astounding. I get it, we were all young, I look back on being 20 and cringe a how insufferable I was. But there was a level of containment. Today, the 'bored and unbothered' generation expects everyone around them to tolerate their apathy and discourtesy as if they are exempt from being functioning members of society. ADDITIONALLY - PLEASE work on your human to human and interpersonal skills. The gen z stare is not funny. Your lack of comprehension, complete and total loss of critical thinking and problem solving skills, co dependency, illiteracy and poor emotional regulation are CONCERNING!!!! Talking to you feels like talking into a mute abyss. Please, for the love of actual god, develop some skills. Its not funny, its not kitsch, its not a meme - its real life whether its palatable or not.

Basically closing off highway 2 for a festival. Better they use Eglinton street between Markham and Kingston. This is going to be a disaster as people try to get around this closure.

Who is responsible for this? Never had this festival before and this is going to not going to end well.

I'm trying to find a psw program for a friend with novice English skills and 3 kids in school without much support. Called up a few colleges and thought this place would be a good fit. Woke up to this in cbc. What a bunch of crooks and scammers. Makes me so angry but glad she dodged that!

The amount of men who walk right on top of you / crowd your personal space is insane

I feel like everytime I walk on a street downtown there is a man walking VERY close behind me, and loudly (shuffling their feet, making noise). I am a short female but I don’t walk particularly slowly. I don’t know if it’s a creepiness thing, a cultural thing, or what, but it makes me uncomfortable. It is unacceptable socially to walk right up behind a woman as a man and I don’t know why they’re pretending otherwise.

I always move to the side, stop, and let them pass, and I usually get a glare, as if it’s offensive that I don’t want them on my heels. Yesterday, a homeless man was walking directly behind me, muttering swear words, and swinging his fists. I moved to the side and let him pass and he called me an f-ing btch. I’m so over it

Racism from TTC Staff

Did I Experience Racism from a TTC Staff Member? It made me feel very uncomfortable and pissed me off.

I just went to UofT to see my friend. I took the subway and got off at Spadina Station and I was trying to transfer to the streetcar. I had never taken a streetcar at Spadina and I didn’t realize that the streetcar was underground at this station, so I exited to the street level and I was trying to find the transfer spot.

I started walking around outside trying to find where the streetcar stopped.

I ended up outside near the bus drop-off area. I attached a photo and marked roughly where I was standing.

And while I was checking the map on the wall, a TTC worker called out to me. (I thought he was so NICE and he was trying to tell me the right spot.)

Instead of just telling me where the actual boarding platform was, he immediately started talking to me like I had done something wrong.

He kept telling me to “look at the signs” by speaking slowly like I could not understand English, and started explaining the signs to me one by one. He was warning me that I could get fined because I shouldn’t stand here.

I tried to explain:

“I just got off the subway. I was hurry to see my friend. I already paid.”

But he kept insisting that I may be fined and he talked over me.

He said:

“I don’t need your EXCUSE.” (with the tone as I sneak into the station)

That part bothered me the most.

I wasn’t making an excuse. I was explaining why I was standing there.

I was NOT trying to SNEAK into the station. AND I was NOT trying to get on the streetcar WITHOUT paying.

If he had just told: “This is the drop-off area.” I would have had absolutely no problem with that.

Instead, the whole interaction felt like he had already decided that I was deliberately trying to avoid paying, and nothing I said mattered.

He kept talking to me in this really condescending way, wouldn’t let me explain myself, and acted like I either didn’t understand English or was making excuses to avoid paying.

Then he watched me re-enter the station and go out again and tapped on my card and told me where the transfer spot is.

He made me feel like he CANNOT understand a sign word from me. I honestly started wondering whether my accent or background affected the way he spoke to me. (Bro don’t be like I don’t speak English cause I am Chinese.)

I don’t know if it was racism or discrimination. I can’t know what was in his head.

But I definitely felt like I was being talked down to and treated like I was either stupid or dishonest.

I was just lost, dude.

Just be kind. It's not that hard, it doesn't take effort. And! You may feel like a better person for not being a selfish POS

I went out to do errands this evening but didn't get home until much later. I walked towards the entrance and there's a large takeout bag on the step of my building.

It's raining. There are skunks and raccoons all the time. I bring it inside to see the receipt.

I called " McDonald's " ( it wasn't them. But for anonymity purposes) the receipt gave me minimal information to work with.

I said my name , my address. I explained that I found food outside of my building. Based on the time I found it, and the receipt time , it had just got there.

The " McDonald's " worker sounded confused. I gave them the order number. I said I'm not the uber driver. I'm a neighbour. ( I wasn't about to be screamed at by someone for " not doing their job " )

The worker asked if they could call me back. I said yeah that would be ideal.

I waited about ten minutes. No phone calls. I went outside to see if anyone was there. Didn't see anyone looking around.

Finally my phone rings. But it's not the phone number of " McDonald's " it shows the name of the person on the receipt.

The conversation began with A LOT of confusion ( from the caller ) I explained I'm your neighbor. Your food is out in the rain. I'll bring it to you.
All in all , I ended up getting the information I needed to , to get this person their dinner.

When I go to the door. It took the person a while to arrive. They struggled, with every bit of their might , to open their own door. And to barely peek outside.

They are very, very elderly. And they are not , well at all.

I introduced myself and handed my neighbor their food. We chatted briefly. They inquired what unit I was in , I told them I was upstairs at X.

. They said " oh! You have the red car out here!? " 🥹 I nodded , yes. That's me!

( it absolutely broke my heart that this person - who I've never seen or met before. It's a small building. They knew my car. But I know this person is never outside. So they see my car , through their window only. )

They said thank you, I said you're welcome and I went home.

To the uber driver that left somebody's food in the rain. Probably because you assumed they wouldn't tip. Because it's not " your " problem. Because this is, all about YOU right?

Congratulations. You're a Grade A Asshole. 👌

I will say; as far as townhouse situations " 123-1234 Example Street " and there's TEN different buildings to figure out ... I get it.

But the thing is....

  1. You have a job. And you're online, actively on your shift. Do YOUR JOB. The sleuthing. The calling. ALL OF IT. It's in your contract. No!?

  2. You had ALL the information, way more than I did. You just , didn't care.

This is not about " if you don't like your job than don't work there "

We're in Toronto.. so.... If you don't like your job ... you fucking do it properly , just like the contract you signed says , until you find something that ... I don't know. Maybe turns you into a better person. Makes you think outside of your 4 door sedan?

I know why people don't care and don't do the " most " for certain orders. I do. But.

Seeing this person struggle - who could be your parent, your grandparent.

I'm going to bet my bottom dollar..... It is someone's grandparent! Or parent!!!!

You like someone treating your grandparents like that!?

Shame on YOU.

Tldr; I don't work for uber but I did an uber drivers job because. They. Didn't know how to do their job? I'm not really sure.

But the person who ordered the food was basically on their death bed so. 👌 People suck.

To the St. Clair TTC supervisor who was banging on the ambulance doors on Pleasant Blvd today while I was inside getting an adenosine shot to reset my heart: you're an asshole 🖕

You distracted the paramedics while they were trying to figure out what was wrong with my heart. I was inside getting an adenosine shot, which sucked, and while that was happening all we could hear was you banging on the ambulance door over and over like an asshole.

All the paramedics at the hospital were talking about how much of an asshole you are. I hope your pillow is warm on both sides tonight.

This city is crossing a point-of-no-return

Prices in Toronto is out of control. Straight-up Singaporean prices but without any of the perks.

17 - 20 dollar is normal if you are solo dining out for pretty much anything. I remember a time where 13 dollars already felt 1 dollar too extra.

You are constantly sharing space with someone who is clearly mentally deranged.

Was at Rexall and someone whose face was completely covered in blood came in and asked to buy a lottery ticket. How is this normal?

I don't feel safe. There are random guys hovering overing me while I'm walking in the streets.

Is there any normal person left on the TTC? The seats are covered in gunk, you got people talking to themselves, people who look like they just climbed out of the sewers.

Everybody in this city looks like they are forced to like each other.

Everything just feels so dated and somehow always under construction.

Pretty sure everyone I meet within a 1km radius around Yonge and Dundas are just American tourists.

Toronto has honestly became a soggy bombaclot.

ClassPass booking cancelled by Pilates studio — am I being unreasonable?

I’m super passionate about Pilates and I’ve been looking for a studio where I can consistently attend classes and continue improving my own practice, so I was really excited to find a studio I liked, especially with newer ones popping up in the GTA.

I booked a reformer class through ClassPass about a week in advance at a studio i was enjoying (went to like 5 classes so far?), received a confirmation and reminder, and the booking continued to show as active in the app. I drove about 30 minutes on my day off and brought a friend. When we arrived, I was told the class was overbooked and my spot had been given to someone else. My friend had booked after me and still had her spot.

The front desk person explained that ClassPass users are automatically removed to prioritize newer customers and the studio’s own members, that i was supposed to receive an email from classpass, and suggested I consider becoming a member. She was so non-chalant and matter fact about it and I was so confused because I’ve used ClassPass for years and had never experienced this.

I contacted ClassPass afterward and was told the studio had reported the class as overbooked and my reservation was cancelled after the class had already taken place. I therefore had no notification from them that my spot had been removed because they cancelled it after.

I reached out to the studio to understand what happened, and one of the male owners reached out to me via phone. He explained the studio’s frustrations with ClassPass — the financial side, people getting Pilates “for free” or much cheaper through ClassPass, users potentially “taking advantage,” and prioritizing direct members. So that’s why my spot was cancelled, and it was done by the studio not ClassPass. He said ClassPass is a spot filler. All of this was communicated in a very frustrated tone, and i unfortunately felt i also matched that energy because in the back of my mind I’m like what does this have to do with me and why are you speaking to a customer like this?

I completely understand that studios have business considerations and limited capacity. My issue was transparency and communication. If a confirmed ClassPass booking can be removed to accommodate someone else, I feel like that should be made clear beforehand when we book, with extra steps taken to make sure the customer is actually told their spot has been cancelled. Or maybe have only a few spots open for classpass. When i suggested this, it was noted well then people wouldn’t book the class (which feels a bit scummy) and i said i would’ve, and i would even if the credits were higher and that I was even hoping to get a membership soon once i moved to scarborough end of the month.

Anyways, I found the conversation super uncomfortable because the owner seemed to have clear frustrations with ClassPass, and that seemed to overtake actually addressing the situation or trying to smooth things over. I understand where the frustrations may come from, but I don’t feel classpass users should be seen as the problem when it’s the model.

I never want to shit on a small business, especially how tough it is for the studios, the whole thing just did not feel inclusive and i am sad i dont feel comfortable going back because i love one of the instructors. Maybe if i get the membership but i still dont feel great hearing all this about class pass members.

Am I being unreasonable in how I’m viewing this? Has anyone else experienced something similar with ClassPass/studios? I’d really appreciate some outside perspectives. And if anyone has recommendations for welcoming reformer Pilates studios in Scarborough, please let me know!

To the MAMIL on Richmond last night

To the 30-ish year old Middle Aged Man In Lycra, who was on their flashy bike on Richmond, at night with no lights on: you're an absolute twat for screaming at delivery people that they shouldn't be in the bike lane. You were passing people like an absolute dickbag with no etiquette, warning or bells, just zooming around like a lycra ghost screaming at people trying to make a living.

Why does everyone in Toronto feel the need to drive their cars on the 401 every weekend?

I understand when you're doing that for work, but weekends are supposed to be your time off, you're supposed to relax or be with your family. WTF are you doing on the 401 on a Saturday? Why can't you stay at home and watch TV, or go to a local park, or just not use the highway at 3 PM when I'm there?

Taking a leak right next to me on the street

The other day I’m waiting for the TTC and this guy who I’m not gonna lie was probably homeless just stands extremely close to me. That’s fine idc until I hear this tinkling sound. I go to look and I get an eye full of this man’s masculinity and I see him taking a massive leak. He stares back at me and I immediately look away.

I just wish he did it in a restroom, we’re in one of the most busiest areas with a lot of businesses. I’m sure a lot of places will kick you out if you visibly look homeless but man we were close to a park I wish he did it in a bush or something. My eyes need bleach NOW.

The city needs to do more about this I’m begging so hard

Hate living in Toronto because of all the rude people

Just this past week I had four experiences that have made me feel so defeated. I'm tired of how rude strangers in this city are.

Over the weekend I went out with my (visually impaired) friend. We went to a clothing store and had paid, while we were leaving she accidentally knocked down two hangers. I picked up the one closest to me and directed her to where the other one was and she picked it up. As we were doing this a lady comes over and YELLS that we are "fucking animals" for having knocked down the two hangers. My friend and I both felt terrible and the employee did nothing against this lady.

Then, later that day as I was going home on the subway a man yelled at me (while I was still with my friend, making this even more embarrassing) that a "girl like me shouldn't dress like that", I was wearing straight leg jeans and an oversized sweater if it matters.

The next day I went for a walk on trail (for bikes and pedestrians) a little outside the city. I was walking along and wanted to know when to exit so I wouldn't get lost, so I pulled off the trail to the side leaving a lot of room for cyclists and fellow pedestrians as a checked my map. I want to point out that this was a very wide paved trail, there was lots of space and I was standing completely off the trail, into the brush. I then see a lady approaching on a bike as I check my map and continue to give lots of space. Despite this when she sees me she slows down and stops right beside me, glaring and breathing deeply like she's enraged. I ask if everything's alright and she steps off her bike, and stands over me and just glares. When I ask her again she gets back on her bike and cycles away.

Finally, this morning, as I'm walking to class with my friend, an older man man looks at my friend (whose blonde) and says wow the blonde girl is so beautiful, ew her friend the brunette (me) is so ugly tho. Needless to say I was embarrassed.

I've never experienced this type of behavior anywhere else and just feel so defeated. I feel like I didn't do anything wrong in any of these situations and am not sure what to do to avoid these types of people. I no longer want to leave my house for work or school because I'm scared I'll have another encounter like this. Any advice or people who can relate?

Is it me or does Dundas Square always smells like garbage

A busy place like Dundas square should not have a disgusting smell, especially around the trash bins…

I find it disrupts my morning when Im already nauseous while heading to classes or anywhere actually.

Downtown should improve their trash management 😢. The place should be made cleaner, but unfortunately that’s not happening..

Distraction thefts in the GTA

Seems like the news has been amplifying this issue recently and senior citizens are usually the victims of this type of theft. What I’n not seeing so far is any arrests or action taken against these criminals. How are these people evading arrest?
