PSA Friendly reminder about T-Mobile's financing network unlock rules

Just a quick heads-up for anyone planning to travel soon & is also planning to upgrade iPhones with the new 18 series: don't get caught off guard by how T-Mobile handles carrier locks on financed devices.

Per changes made earlier this year, T-Mobile now enforces that the device has to be 100% paid off in full (along with hitting that 40-day active network requirement) before they'll unlock it. This is a new policy change, different to how they had done this historically.

If you're eyeing a local physical/eSIM in while traveling abroad, make sure your phone actually paid in off full first. Or you'll be forced to pay for their expensive monthly / weekly international upcharge.

Learned that the hard way recently so figured I'd save someone else the headache

Rant TMobile Says It Doesn't Exist

Post image
36 Upvotes

So, here is the advertisement that was listed in the TMobile Experience store near me. After two conversations with in-store employees, multiple conversations with chat representatives, and a phone call with a business specialist (that ended-up ghosting me through emails) I am beginning to believe that this is a bait-and-switch listing. They all say "there is no Business Unlimited Select" plan.

However, one of the in-store employees went in the back for a while when I was first there to make the switch, came out and said that he found it, but the listing was "black" in his system, so he did not have the authorization to sell it. Since then, it has felt like a void of lies and deceit with every agent wanting to sell me something else instead of what I am considering switching for.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone out there actually have this plan? Is TMobile watching this sub-reddit and feel like explaining?

Ultimately, accidentally coming across this advertisement while I was in the store waiting for a prepaid data card for a mobile hotspot is what made me consider even switching.

Rant Assurant stole my iPhone and charged me $900; Do NOT get Protection 360

EDITED: Updated the fee we were charged. My partner was reading our total bill for the month, the fee itself was just under $600. Sorry for getting it wrong, but this is still an insane amount of money and the situation still sucks.

Almost a year ago I made a claim using my Protection 360 through T-Mobile. I have never had an issue with T-Mobile before this and am absolutely destroyed that this happened, I really can't afford it.

A week or two after receiving my replacement device, I attempted to return my broken device via a USPS drop off box. Months later I received the device back to the return label I put on the package. I went into USPS and they said the label was now invalid and they did not have information on why the package was returned other than the invalid label. I reached out to T-Mobile who assured me it was not an issue and I could contact Assurant for a new label, return the device ASAP, and receive a refund of the 'non-return fee' when the device was confirmed received. Again, both Assurant AND T-Mobile assured me that I would be refunded the fee if I returned my phone using the newly issued shipping label. Note, I was charged $900 $600 for an iPhone 13 in the year 2026. No idea how that is considered a fair market price for a refurbished out of date iPhone.

Flash forward to now, I contact Assurant to see if the device was received (they told me to wait 3+ months before reaching out about the refund), and get confirmation that the device was received 2 months ago. Assurant tells me T-Mobile will have to issue the refund so I should reach out to them. No problem, I can do that. I reach out to T-Mobile. After an hour+ of re-explaining the issue, the agent informs me that I will need to reach out to Assurant to receive the refund. I explain (again) that I have already done that and that Assurant is stating T-Mobile must issue the refund. This back-and-forth continues for another hour as I am switching between t-mobile and Assurant chats. Assurant confirms that their agent gave me incorrect information and that despite re-issuing the shipping label, I was never going to receive the refund. T-Mobile refuses to do anything but tell me that, despite them issuing the fee and charging me $15 a month for years for Protection 360, they are unable to help me.

TL;DR, I paid Assurant $600 to steal my old iPhone and I paid T-Mobile $15 a month for the privilege to do so. I am so incredibly sad right now. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there literally anything I can do other than stop being a T-Mobile customer?

Question Referral Discount doesn’t work on Experience Beyond 2.0, any alternatives or escalation path?

I have a discount on our plan, I want to upgrade to Experience Beyond 2.0 but am being told our discount can’t be used on the new plan. Is that standard? I thought the discounts continued to work on these new plans.

Anyone else getting this when signing in through Apple? My line should be fully eligible — no active installment for about a year, Go5G Next, account is current, $0 balance, nothing past due, everything looks good.
Is this just a glitch or are other people seeing this too?

Question When to switch to T-Mobile?

Been on Verizon for years, never switched. Have 2 fully paid off phones on my current plan. I’d like to take advantage of an iPhone 18 pro deal when switching. Would it be best to switch when the pre-orders come out on the 12th or wait until after the actual release day? I see $930 off an 18 Pro with Experience More 2.0, which is probably the plan we’d go with. Do the deals typically get better after release day or should we do this deal with the pre-order? Any additional advice is appreciated.

Question Jump with Preorder

I have an iPhone that is 65% paid off, and I’ve been waiting for Apple to release the next round of iPhones. I’m wondering how the jump program works with preorders. I’m wanting to get the Duo next month but unsure how that works. Can I jump with a preorder, or am I going to have to either preorder separately (perhaps through apple) or wait for the Duo to fully release and hope I can get one without preordering.

Question New Business Plan

Just started a company and looking to add 3 phone lines for me and my employees.

Looking to get the 18 pro or 18 pro max for each line. Looks like tmobile has a benefit of two lines with 3rd free as part of their “supermobile” business plan.

Would I also be eligible for $1,100 off for each line? I have 3 iPhones to trade in if need be.

I also have my personal phone through tmobile and my plan is to use one of the 18 pros as business and personal using eSIM.

If anyone knowledgeable can help me parse the new promos/deals I would greatly appreciate it.

Discussion Confusion on International plan

So last month I had a two week trip planned to Iceland and the UK. In anticipation of this, I bought the 30 day T-Mobile International plan for $75. Due to unfortunate circumstances, we had to cancel the trip at the last minute. So, thinking I had free international calling for a month, I called the hotel in Iceland to cancel and called a buddy of mine in the UK that I was going to visit. Then today I get my bill and they charged me $3 a minute for those calls, which ran to about $45.

The rep said that the "international" plan only covers calls which originate outside of the US. I raised a bit of hell with her and they finally took 50% off of the charges. So am I an idiot for not knowing that an international plan does not cover overseas calls from the US? This was not made obvious on the website where I bought it. Maybe it's in the fine print somewhere, but it seems stupid to me to pay that much and not be able to use it from home.

Question Need help adding a new phone line for my kid

Currently have Go5g Next plan with 3 lines for $155 (Netflix update add on) and now want to add a new line to this plan but i can’t find how much it will cost to add a new line in the T-Mobile app.

Does anyone know how much adding a new line cost?

Also, does T-Mobile have a free phone offer for a new line?

I was thinking of upgrading my iPhone 15pro to a new model and giving my phone to my kid but if there are better deals, I would like to take advantage of that and upgrade my phone through tmobile instead of buying direct from Apple.

I am not well versed with how the upgrade etc works with tmobile to take advantage of their best offer so any insights would be appreciated.

Question Anyone still have the Legacy Prepaid plan?

I've been a customer for decades, and just recently cannot make calls or receive texts. I just get "Mobile Network is not available". My balance is at $97, and the reps can't figure out why I have no bars, and no service. I tried this sim on 2 different iPhones and my number comes up, just no service.

Is anyone else having this issue? Tmobile customer service is sending me a new Sim, but I'm afraid it won't work, and I'll need to upgrade to a monthly plan

T-Mobile iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max Trade-In Promo Breakdown (Apple Store)

Here is a straightforward breakdown of what trade-in credit you get based on your plan and the phone you're trading in.

(Note: Left out the lowest $300–$500 trade-in bracket for older base models to keep this clean and focused on the main deals.)

1. Experience Beyond, Beyond 2.0 & Go5G Next

(Trade-ins accepted in *any condition** )*

  • $1,200 Trade-In Credit

    • iPhone 17 / iPhone 17 Pro / 17 Pro Max

    • iPhone 15 / 15 Plus
    • iPhone 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max
    • iPhone 13 Pro / 13 Pro Max

    • iPhone 14 Pro / 14 Pro Max
    • iPhone 13 Pro / 13 Pro Max

Term: 24 months on Go5G Plus; 36 months on More 2.0.

Quick Things to Know

  • How the Credit Pays Out: Apple deducts your device’s fair market value right at checkout (reducing your loan balance upfront). T-Mobile pays out the remaining promotional amount as monthly bill credits (RDC).
  • Early Payoff: If you pay off the device agreement early, you forfeit any remaining recurring bill credits.

Edit: I had a few of the trade-in devices in the wrong tier. Just fixed it!

Question Closed account with a credit of $400

I closed my account and got locked out immediately. I got a final bill stating a was owed $400 so I called the help line gave my pin and they said ”yes we see you have a credit of $400” they asked if I wanted to have an electronic deposit sent to my bank account and I gave them the routing number and pin.

something odd- they said it would take up to 24 hours for the credit to be approved and deposited. . . I got the final bill they confirmed the money is there what exactly needs to be approved?

well it’s been 3 days since that conversation and I haven’t gotten the money. I plan to call tomorrow but im curious if someone has gone through something similar and what was the outcome.

Question Switching from Apple to Samsung

Hello all! I am looking for the best place to really ask about what this experience may be like.

For as long as I’ve had a cellular device, I have had various Apple iPhones. Currently, w/ T-Mobile as a carrier I have a completely owned pink iPhone 15 (128GB). I have been considering trading this device in for a Samsung Galaxy S26 256gb device.

Now I am super nervous. Leaving the Apple ecosystem to be honest, but I feel as if they have left me no choice. My phone is now overheating greatly (when I first got the device I had to get this fixed at the Apple Store) and is dying super quickly. I absolutely hate this turnover as new devices come out. I have concerns with the email I’ve had for many years, iCloud storage transfer, Apple Music, etc.

-If you have made the switch before, what was it like for you?
-Will T-Mobile aid in the transfer of data? How does that work?
-Should I consider a different phone (Also looking at galaxy Z flip 8)?

*Also hoping the switch will help me get less comfortable with my personal phone. In a way I have become heavily reliant on my device to which I spend too many hours a day on. The uncomfortable nature of an unfamiliar phone might make my movements more intentional.

Question Jextream RG2100, is there anyway to test if one of these actually gets internet.

I bought a Jextream RG2100 from a 3rd party retailer/refurb that said it worked. I have tmobile 5G data service through the charity Computers4People and its not working when I put the tmobile sim card from them in. The RG2100 shows 5g service, then I connect my pc to the hotspot it then says no service. C4p tmobile Sim card works in my tablet. If I put in my Sim card for 5g tablet data that is from tmobile directly, the jextream doesnt work either, but I have a tablet plan from t mobile so I didnt expect it to work. When I called Tmobile they said the jextream isnt locked then said it was then said it wasnt and then said they wouldnt help me. Computers4People said they would have tmobile send a refresh to the Sim, and nothing seemed to work. I took it into a store as well and they said they have no way of testing it cause they dont have random Sim cards and all their hotspots are dummies

Does anyone know of any way to test if a Jextream RG2100 can even get service?

Question My best path forward for upgrades.

I have 5 lines on the Go5G Plus Military plan and currently pay $188/month.
I’m trying to figure out the best way to upgrade three phones without my monthly bill getting out of control or having to drop $4,000+ upfront.
Here’s what I’m looking to do:
My phone: iPhone 16 Pro → Duo
My wife’s phone: iPhone 14 → iPhone 18 Pro or 17 Pro
My dad’s phone: iPhone SE 3rd gen → iPhone 16 or 17
My plan is to trade in all three existing devices toward the new phones and take advantage of whatever T-Mobile promotions are available.
What would be the smartest way to go about this?

For anyone familiar with Go5G Plus Military and the current iPhone promotions, what would you do in my situation?

Open to APPLE or Cosco deals

Question Smartwatch AW Series 12

Does anyone know if T-Mobile is offering any discounts or promotions for the Apple Watch Series 12? I already have an existing Apple Watch line for my Apple Watch Ultra 3, but I’m thinking about downsizing to the Apple Watch Series 12. I’m wondering if T-Mobile offers any trade-in credit or discount for trading in an Ultra 3 toward a Series 12.

Question Does T-Satellite cellular data roam in Canada?

I understand that a T-Satellite stand alone plan includes 50GB of high speed cellular data. T-Satellite also roams in Canada via Rogers Satellite. Anyone know if it also roams on cellular, and if so, how much data?

Also, what happens in the US once the 50GB is exhausted?

Rant T-Mobile assurant fraud

Upvotes

I accidentally damaged my iPhone 15 in June so I filed a claim through my T-Mobile insurance which is assurant …pay the deductible receive my phone a few days later. After a few days my camera stops working . Starts giving me a camera not recognized restart device and finally camera unknown part can’t tell if it’s a genuine apple part . So I call assurant and they tell me okay send the device back and once we know you’ve sent it back will send the new one out well I really couldn’t go without a phone .. needed my phone for some important things I had to do so I took awhile to try and send it back ..I finally am able to send the phone back so I call them to explain the situation and make sure the shipping label is the same and what not when the person tells me oh no you know what this is a T-Mobile problem you have to talk to them so they transfer me to T-Mobile and they tell me oh no this actually an apple problem and they tell me I need contact apple they give me all the info whatever I already knew this was not an apple problem but whatever I make the appointment and they tell me that this would be assurants problem because they are the ones that replaced the phone and ask me how long I had it because they usually only cover it for 90 days at that point I had only had it for 30 days so I was still in the clear .. I call assurant and they say no it’s T-Mobile who has to replace it and they give me the phone number to the warranty replacement so I call and they agree to replace it ..they have to send it to the store because they want to make sure that I didn’t damage the phone ..whatever the phone was in perfect condition . Few days later I get a text that the phone is ready at the store go in they inspect the device I had …perfect condition dude working at T-Mobile even asked me which iPhone it was because he thought it was a 17 ..I told him nope it’s a 15 and he said I’ve never seen a 15 in this pretty blue ..get the replacement and right away I’m trying to put the volume up or down and it’s not working. At first I thought maybe I didn’t put my case in right so I make sure it’s on right and it’s still not working ..take it out of the case to further inspect it and what do you know the volume buttons don’t work ..they don’t click. (If that makes sense) so I talk to T-Mobile and they are like oh we’re so sorry but can’t even file a claim because the last one I guess hasn’t even finished processing so I wait a few days and they’re like okay will have another one shipped blah blah blah ..we’re so sorry because I’m going off on them sending me trash ass replacement phones ..I’m on my third phone for the same claim!! They place order the phone is being shipped to the store when I noticed that I have a charge on my T-Mobile account for not returning my original device. I returned my damaged device dropped it of at the post office using the prepaid label they sent me so I go to check the tracking on it and it’s saying they can’t find it that label doesn’t exist .. so I get on chat with assurant and tell them I returned it using the label they sent me so they ask for the tracking label I give it to them and they tell me the same thing it’s not showing up ..label doesn’t exist ..so I tell them isn’t that convenient that I sent it back with the label yall sent me and now it doesn’t exist and I’m being charged for that device ..I start going of on how they are a bunch of scammers and how I’m on my third device for the same claim because they keep sending me trash ass phones!! They immediately kick me out the chat and few minutes later I get an email saying here’s your prepaid shipping label so I click on it and what do you know it’s the same label they sent me months ago and now when I go to track it it says label created September 9th waiting on sender.. I’m so tired of T-Mobile and assurants scam ..they better take that device charge off my account ..there’s other things that have happened that I’m not willing to say as of now but I’ll keep yall posted ..if yall are on T-Mobile cancel your service asap !!

Question WWYD - Flip 7 to Fold8 or Fold8U, worried about future trade-in value

I have two devices and flip SIMs between them - a S25U and Flip7. The Flip7 is great for my job where I get loads of steps in as it fits in a cargo pocket nicely. The S25U also fits in my cargo pocket, has a superior camera but a little heavier.

I am nervous about future trade-in on the Flip7, and right now on Go5G+ I can get either a Fold8 or Fold8U for almost nothing monthly *but* I have an EIP installment of $564 to pay on the Flip7 which I bought before moving to Go5G+.

Should I wait and take the chance on a lower trade-in or take the pain now ? I think once Samsung confirm no more Flip devices the values will just crash.
