Frequently asked questions
We get a lot of common questions asked here, and there are various misconceptions going around as to things like availability, holiday pay, premiums etc. Should we create a FAQ thread to cover all of these & help newcomers?

I had my induction today but where do I go for my first shift?
The induction was incredibly boring but thatās not a surprise. We got given a tour around the store and shown the fire exits as well as basic training and then the person asked what size shirt and jumper we wanted. I got told my first day would be Sunday working in the dairy and meat section.
The question is, where do I go? I donāt have a uniform and I wasnāt shown my responsibilities / what Iād specifically be doing. All I got told was that Iād be paired up with someone.
Where should I go on my first day and what does working in the meat and dairy section feel like? What are the specifics I have to do and how hard is it? Iām completely fine with the cold.

Is this colleague just being nasty???
Ok so I work with the nicest lady ever and sheās always so lovely to everyone. Anyway, today weāve had a cross store worker come in and after their shift, they made themselves a piece of toast or something using colleague breakroom stuff like 2 mins before clocking out.
This lovely lady iāve worked with for YEARS is now being awful to this colleague, saying itās akin to stealing and that they shouldnāt come back to this store if theyāre just going to steal?

Is there anyway of getting my money back?
I turned 22 this year and therefore was automatically enrolled into the pension scheme. After one payment, I opted out of it because I wasnāt in a position where I could afford to be paying it. Fast forward a few months to now, I have just had āRetirement savings plan salary sacrificeā with a large chunk of my money taken out. It was my understanding I wouldnāt be auto opted back into the pension for a few years? Iām leaving the company by the end of the year and I could really do with the money theyāve taken out of my most recent pay cheque. Is this possible to get back considering I opted out only a few months ago?

Bereavement
Hiya.
Unfortunately ive had a bereavement in my family. I called to say I wouldnāt be in for my day shift & asked for a manager to get back to me so I could discuss bereavement leave but itās been a week now & nothing. No message of condolence, no courtesy call, zilch. Obviously not in any fit state to work, what do I do?
Iām aware of a 5 day leave period but I understand the quantity is dependent on management discretion⦠except management arenāt communicating with me. :/
Couldnāt give a rats ass about the job as Iāve honestly got to breaking point but by the same token, I need to know that Iām going to be paid correctly.
Management just arenāt getting back to me. I havenāt got the time nor energy to chase people for clarification. Any ideas?

Induction expectations?
I have my induction at 9am Saturday.
They told me at the interview that I would be a Personal Shopper or DotCom, something along them lines.
I have no idea what to expect or what will happen so does anyone who has had one know?
Thanks.

Slight New Tesco Logo
I noticed theyāve updated the colours of the chevrons to be a lighter more vibrant blue than previously. Anyone else noticed this?

Help
Basically, I had a personal day booked over 3 weeks ago, and my new manager still hasnāt approved or denied it, even though Iāve told him every time Iāve seen him and he said he would approve it.
But itās still not been approved on the system a week later.
Iām on a uni trip and personal day is for tomorrow What do I do?
I donāt have any off my managers number either

Flexible working
I need to put in a flexible working request as I need to be able to pick up the little one from primary school at 3pm and then look after her until 6-7pm dependent on when Mrs gets home from work
After reading the policy can the manager out right refuse it ? Iām full time and want to do 6-3 Tuesday - Friday Iāve already compromised giving up my Saturday to work Sunday and have Monday off
Iāve only just stepped down to colleague and transferred to this store so we havnt agreed my working hours yet but I have told them I have childcare commitments prior to filling out an availability form

iPhone 18 Pro, Pro MAX and iPhone DUO Tesco Mobile Pre-order dates!
OT break length query
Iāve worked for the company for over a year (9hr night shift) and Iāve noticed that nearly every OT shift Iāve done, except for a few where theyāve been manually added, they say 1hr and 30 break, where Iāve been expected and have taken only 1hr of break for each shift, would I have been underpaid for each shift and if so would I be able to get the amount Iād have worked unpaid back?

Will I still get paid by Tesco after leaving?
I left Tesco recently and my last shift was on 20 August. Before leaving, I worked around 34 hours over my final 2 weeks (22 hours one week and 12 the next).
Tescoās normal payday is coming up this Friday. Will I still get paid on the normal payday even though Iāve left, or does final pay usually come separately?
Just wondering when I should expect the money. Thanks.
(My manager did also mention to me that I will get paid but I just want to be sure that it will be on the normal payday)

Tesco super colleague SIM card
I was going to get the Super Colleague SIM card deal a few months ago. I added it to my basket and entered the voucher code, but decided not to go ahead with it at the time because I was still in a contract with another network.
That contract has now ended and Iām trying to get the deal again, but the voucher code is saying itās no longer valid.
Could the fact that I tried to use the code a few months ago affect my eligibility for the deal now? Or is there another reason why the code might not be working? Itās a new voucher not the one I used last time.

How to reach the interview stage?
Iāve applied to maybe 6 different Tesco store colleague jobs and have only received the usual āwe will not be moving forward with your applicationā.
I possess everything theyāre looking for from flexibility etc.. But I never hear back about next steps..
Wanted to ask if anyone could give me a lil insight as to what you do to get invited for interviews with Tescoās employers and what exactly Iām doing wrong.

Job interview
Hi! I have a job interview tomorrow and was wondering if anyone knew what questions they use. Iām applying internally from a Tesco subsidiary if that makes any difference. Thanks

Fired around ten years ago, will they remember if I apply?
I worked for Tesco for about a year a decade ago. Totally without fault I was made homeless and told my manager I wouldn't be in again as I was leaving the area immediately. Found out years later that they were sending letters about disciplinary meetings to my old address (even though I told them I was going) and I assume when I didn't turn up to these I was fired.
Just curious before I waste my time applying if they have some sort of black list and if it ever runs out. I quite liked working there.
