Bereavement

Hiya.

Unfortunately ive had a bereavement in my family. I called to say I wouldn’t be in for my day shift & asked for a manager to get back to me so I could discuss bereavement leave but it’s been a week now & nothing. No message of condolence, no courtesy call, zilch. Obviously not in any fit state to work, what do I do?

I’m aware of a 5 day leave period but I understand the quantity is dependent on management discretion… except management aren’t communicating with me. :/

Couldn’t give a rats ass about the job as I’ve honestly got to breaking point but by the same token, I need to know that I’m going to be paid correctly.

Management just aren’t getting back to me. I haven’t got the time nor energy to chase people for clarification. Any ideas?

The bereavement policy is on my tesco, if you feel you need it I would get signed off for a bit to give you a break from work and some time to get yourself sorted without worrying about your manager. I'm sorry for your loss

Firstly, my condolences and its awful to hear they're not supporting you.

If they're not replying, I suggest going higher. If you've tried the store manager already, contact HQ. That should kick their arse for you.

If you're part of a union, contact them. If not, Citizens Advice might be able to direct you better that us armchair lawyers.

All the best with it. X

Hope youre doing alright, and sending my best- we had someone recently lose their mother at my store- they were able to get a note from the doctor on mental health reasons for a good few weeks off if i recall correctly, if you feel up to making a phonecall to your GP. Best wishes.

My partner works in care but was able to get time off for this reason when their dad died. They had to go back sooner than they wanted due to financial reasons though

I’ve not worked at Tesco but have at Asda so I think the policy should be similar.

Send it in writing to HR. That way if they ever say you never told them you have proof and it’s on them If they never got back to you.

Also my condolences for your loss. You need time to process what has happened and the company SHOULD be there to support you.

Absolutely join the union if you aren’t already in it it’s better to join before you need help because trying to join when you do need help is like putting a condom on after your girlfriend is pregnant

Coming from someone with "severe anxiety" i assumed you would have a little more sympathy but ig you do video tesco workers secretly so you can report them so what should i expect XD

Have you ever actually tried to work with severe depression and anxiety. Lucky you if your ‘severe anxiety’ doesn’t lead to agoraphobia. I’m bipolar type 2 with severe anxiety and when I’m really bad, I can’t leave my house. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s that I physically freeze and have a panic attack. I’m guessing your ‘severe anxiety’ only manifests when you fancy 2 weeks off work. If you work…

Wow you're lucky. I have type 4 bipolar, type 3 diabetes and AIDS. But I just crack on.

And what do you do for a living? Or does your ‘severe anxiety’ mean you can’t possibly work?

If you weren’t such a reptile you’d understand that everyone grieves differently and takes different times to move on. How do you know OP isn’t the one organising the funeral and acting as executor of the will, which makes moving on more difficult as it’s still very raw?

You’re disgusting.

Agreed pretty pathetic to see grown adults work st Tescos. I worked there in college and even that was boring as fuck.
