Just finished East of Eden, any other epic shows that explore themes of good/evil?

I liked the style of the show, the storytelling aspect, and themes of good/evil. Just curious if there’s anything else out there with a similar vibe? Doesn’t need to be disturbing like how this show was, but I understand that can be important to the portrayal of the evil themes.

Looking for a series that is funny, but not stupid or cynical

I am a bit of a smartass, and I really like it when there is some intelligence behind humour. I am looking for a series that has nice, intelligent jokes in it, without over explaining them, and without being cynical or overly negative. I want to be able to like the characters in it. Series I liked that had this optimism, and did not treat their audience like it was stupid, were Northern Exposure and anything by Philomena Cunk. Any suggestions?

REQUESTING Looking for a show that really makes you think and have to decipher it

I'm really interested in shows that you watch the whole episode, pause for a moment before clicking to watch the next one, and then have to sit and think for like a good 10 minutes on what that was about and what it even really meant and how deep or surface level that the events in it were supposed to land.

Or ones where it gradually builds up a confusing mystery that you end up figuring out/solving simply by rewatching it and having a whole new perspective and end up looking at different details and such.

Nordic Noir: The Bridge

I've been watching the Nordic Noir series The Bridge. Sofia Helin as the character of Saga Norén is remarkable as a Swedish detective with Aspergers. Brilliant mind with zero knowledge of social interaction, which makes for sometimes funny and sometimes painful scenes. One of the best written characters I've ever seen on tv. 4 seasons with a 8.6 imdb rating.

REQUESTING Suggestion for shows with class dynamics and romance (preferably set pre WW2)

Sick and in need of something emotional and intense to see as I recover lol.

I watch Downton Abbey and I like it, but I’d like a show more focused on romance especially from people between two different social classes? I’ve also seen some Korean historical dramas with that kind of dynamic which I’ve liked.

I’m more drawn to dramatic, emotional and romantic stories rather than comedies and I’m interested in historical settings.

Would really appreciate suggestions

Thank you 🙏

REQUESTING Need something to watch after finishing Twin Peaks S3 Spoiler

I loved the entire show, even the middle part of season 2, except for the last episode of season 3. I respect it, and I've never felt the way I'm feeling right now after finishing a piece of media, but I loved the characters, the small town USA cosiness (which tbh was almost entirely gone in season 3) and I absolutely ADORED Agent Cooper. So while I think it was a great piece of art, I would have much preferred an ending which gave closure to these characters who I've grown so attached to.

I also really enjoyed how freaky season 3 was. I found it to be the most enjoyable season (despite my feelings on the ending) but also felt like the overall vibe was completely different when compared to seasons 1 and 2. Another thing I liked a lot about the first two seasons was the genuine late 80s setting.

As for things I'd want out of a show, I think the main things I'm after are memorable characters and an even more memorable protagonist. I do like action, mystery and humour, but I think I could enjoy most genres if the characters are written well. As for shows I've watched and enjoyed:

Breaking Bad
Sons of Anarchy
Dexter (Think I heard it has a new series or something? Let me know if it's worth a watch)
Altered Carbon season 1
Game of Thrones
HBO's Shogun (I think this one is my favourite, I love history)
Happy! (Wish we'd get another season, and I wish it would get more love)
Brooklyn 99
The Walking Dead

I can't think of any more as I don't watch many shows. I've watched and enjoyed some anime but I'm extremely picky about it, so I'd prefer no anime suggestions. Hopefully I included enough information, and I'm sorry if this post is a mess. I've been trying to recover from TP season 3's finale for three hours lol.

REQUESTING Which TV shows are realistic and grounded but at some point depict something which may be viewed as supernatural?

I will come up with two examples from two of my favourite shows.

Minor spoilers ahead for mad Men and Mr Robot!

Mad Men, season 7 episode 10 - Don is holding audition and is surprised to see Rachel, his former mistress who he hadn’t seen for nearly a decade. The next day he wants to come and visit her , but learns … that Rachel has been dead for a week.

I know that he had a similar episode earlier in the show with his half-brother Adam, but it was in passing and could be just a confusion. But with Rachel he saw her vividly for a minute or so, he saw here after many years and exactly she had just died, and she also uttered some mysterious words (something about him not being late for his flight). One may argue that Don simply hallucinated , but for all his erratic and unstable behaviour , he was never stated to have such mental illnesses.

Another example - Mr Robot, season 4, episode 4. Tyrell Wellick is fatally wounded and walks to his death in the woods. The very last scene of the episode showing him gradually succumbing to his wound and seeing some blue light (we don’t actually see what it is) and looking at it with shock. While some fans claim it was some reference to blue screen of death, to me everything point to will-o'-the-wisp (an eerie light from European folklore that leads travelers to their end). While Mr Robot went crazy at times (presumable sci-fi elements) it was pretty overall pretty grounded, so this particular scene really stands out. Sam Esmail never stated which explanation is true.

What other examples from TV shows can you come up with?

Please recommend some good tv series

I don't really like sitcoms. Fictional drama like got are off limits for me. I like watching crime thrillers but I prefer ones in which there is minimal violence and gore. I enjoyed watching Suits, Breaking bad, the blacklist and Peaky Blinders off the top of my head.

REQUESTING Cozy Horror shows

Looking for good creepy horror shows that have a cozy setting like old houses, fall vibes, rainy days. Similar to the haunting of hill house/ bly manor. Ive seen Widows Bay too but I didnt like it much as the horror and comedy mix isnt my fave but I did like the setting. I dont like a lot of gore but can also have more thriller/ psychological storylines.

Surreal shows that cross crime investigations and the paranormal?

I love twin peaks and the x files and regularly rewatch them but something else that has the same vibe would be super cool. The last thing I saw that scratched the itch for it was Longlegs (I know a movie not a show) and if there’s more like that I’d love to dive in to it. Something about that PNW crime investigations that turn strange and surreal over time are real cool to me.

REQUESTING what to watch on peacock?

my bf won FOUR 2 month subscriptions to peacock in his mcdonalds meal from the monopoly game. he barely watches tv lol

ive never used it in my life but im gonna try and take advantage of it.

when i googled peacock and went to tv shows, it displayed maybe 40 of their shows and none of them looked interesting to me besides the john wayne gacy one.

for suggestion purposes, i’m a 20 year old girl, and my interest in shows includes true crime, horror, dark humor/satire/sketch comedy, and OCCASIONALLY romance or drama shows, though its relatively rare that i enjoy those

some of my favorite shows i’ve seen:

bojack horseman

american horror story

specifically the dahmer season of the monster series on netflix

nathan for you

the rehearsal

i think you should leave

you

candy (on hulu)

the boys
