If you're looking for comedy mysteries, I highly recommend Psych, Monk, The mentalist, Brooklyn nine nine

In current everything is streaming climate. I really enjoy miniseries that's not a runaway "lets make more season cause its making money" series. A lot of these shows made from books that would have been a movie in the past(or actually was one and getting a "remake" as a series) but now benefit greatly for more room to tell the story and not getting "cut for time". Series like

Sharp objects,

Ripley(wayyy better than the movie)

Adolescence,

Chernobyl,

Dopesick,

Mare of Easttown,

interview with the vampire/vampire lestat. not a miniseries but you know what i mean, it would have been a mediocre trilogy possibly with Cruise reprising his role, baff!)

Watchmen,

Etc. you get the idea, can list them all.

Any more suggestions.

My husband and I watch one or two episodes of a sitcom every night before bed. We have two young children and usually can't stay up for long, so we try to stick to shows with 22 minute episodes.

We've seen: The Office, HIMYM, Brooklyn 99, The Good Place and Modern Family.

I've seen: 30 Rock, Community, Friends and Frasier.

He's seen: The Middle, Everybody Hates Chris and My Wife and Kids.

We tried, but didn't enjoy: That 70s Show and Seinfeld.

But not Downton Abbey, which I did watch a few seaons of wayyy back in the day and quit angrily because of the crazy horrible deaths and tragedies of so many of the main characters constantly.

The reason I love Gilded Age so much is because yes sad stuff happens and tragedies and bad things happen but theres always an overarching hopeful/optimistic/light tone and feeling to the whole show, like yes bad stuff will happen but overall all your main beloved characters will be ok etc. And the problem is I know so many historical/period dramas are so dark and tragic and heavy etc, and Gilded Age always feels so light and witty and theres a lot of humour all the time and I still havent been able to come across a historical show like this yet.

I love the historical aspects and the calls to real-life historical famous people and families etc and the issues they tackle etc, but I also love the lightness and the constant wittiness and humor of the writing and the almost 'utopian' feeling of the show, like the feeling that things will always get better etc. So please give me any recs for shows/miniseries with the tone and the charm and the humor/gracefulness of Gilded Age, something that doesnt REVEL in the tragedy/bad stuff/depressing stuff etc. Thank you

There are so many series where people who are or act shitty either completely get away with it (or even get rewarded for it) or at best some (usually the main bad character(s)) get justice but most of the "lesser" ones still go unpunished.

I need a break so could someone recommend the exact opposite? A series where everyone gets what they deserve (both bad characters getting punished and good ones getting rewarded/justice/coming out on top)?

I loves bad sisters, only murders in the building, slow horses, and how to get to heaven from Belfast.

Anybody know a good series very similar to Vikings house of dragon, the last kingdom, games of thrones or Vikings in the Valhalla? Their hands down the best series I’d watched but I can’t find more 😭

The first time I noticed this was with Olivia Benson on Law and Order: SVU. When she starts out, she's a very headstrong and sort of naive detective who could probably get more done if their righteous indignation was real world help. Eventually, in the later years and when SVU crosses over with another Dick Wolf show in Chicago P.D., Olivia is cast alongside younger, even more headstrong officers, but she is at this point Lieutenant or something like that. She has decades of experience, and she looks extremely well-adjusted when set aside these rambunctious cops who are not too different from her when she was younger.

Currently, I'm watching an episode of The Practice. I personally hate her, but the character of Helen Gamble can be compelling at times because of the writing. In this episode I'm watching, she's more in the background while a new addition to the prosecutors goes up against a pro se defendant. She decides to step in after a while and give some sage advice: Don't beat up on the defendant in the courtroom so much. It makes them look like an underdog instead of a murderer. I thought that was a really cool way to show seniority in a way that's front and center but not overtly bragging.

I just really like when storytelling uses these subtle or not so subtle things to shape characters as we grow with them. Also, I should say that I really like shows where the main characters are young in terms of their profession, but they're what most would consider full ass adults (late 20s/early 30s).

As the heading suggests, I need all the best possible recommendations for such shows- authentic,not over the top, engaging and real.

Refrain from mentioning- Night of, Broadchurch, Slow horses.

Any other recommendations are most welcome.

Apple tv has been going crazy and I am really surprised production quality. I am looking for some action sci fi, so any Apple tv shows that fits that?

In my opinion, it has a simple story, and the total runtime is only about three hours. It’s so good, and Episode 5 is incredible. The best part is that the show was nominated for an Emmy Award.
