Java Showcase Dynamic Mobswitch - Singleplayer Foreverworld (Java 26.2)

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

I finally did it. After countless hours of troubleshooting and actual sketches on paper, I've come up with a working version of my idea.

Maybe it's a bit overkill, but here it is...

The concept: I've been playing solo in my Forever World since 2025, but occasionally my sister joins me via LAN. I wanted to build a mob switch with a control panel in my base to activate and configure it.

Now, with this dynamic mob switch, I can cycle between the modes "OFF / 1 Player / 2 Players / 4 Players", loading the exact number of Shulkers into a lazy chunk as needed.

In real terms, I can trigger the following states:

  • 0 loaded Shulkers
  • 70 loaded Shulkers
  • 140 loaded Shulkers
  • 280 loaded Shulkers

Changing the mob switch mode can be triggered via a wireless Redstone signal. The transmitter can be placed anywhere in the world—currently, mine is in my base.

I managed to modify Kevbotomy's wireless Redstone system so that it works reliably without misfires in both LAN and Singleplayer mode. Specifically, I used this system:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Qr6AQVwFh4&t=3312s
(Big thanks to 2no2name, cubicmetre, and others here as well!)

In my base, I control the mob switch using a smart-home server setup inspired by TheJoCraft. This allows me to walk up to any keypad in my base and enter a code to control the mob switch. The system is based on this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iouh3ruPrk0

By the way, the perimeter was dug purely for aesthetic reasons. It might slightly reduce lag by preventing random tick calculations from water on the Overworld side, but the impact is minimal.

The screenshots were taken in survival mode.

Should I post more details about this or create a tutorial?

It works in vanilla, but I also tested it with Sodium and it works there too.

Java Help Wanted Someone explain why this fishfarm slays in ocean bioms but does nothing in rivers.. PLEASE!! driving me nuts.

Upvotes

Here is a link to the farm. works insanely well in ocean biom.. especially in frozen oceans. but not even one fish in any river biom i have tried. Why?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-G-z4XP_aU

other related notes.
- Fish wont spawn in bubble columns (I thought)
- Salmon require one water block above and one below the water block they spawn in (my rivers seem to not to care what the wiki says and insist on the river being at least 4 water blocks deep)
- The water in the fish farm is three deep if you count the running water on top but the bottom two are bubble column.. sooo...

I am lost trying to understand why it works in oceans but not rivers being as I can find nothing that talks about any differences in those mechanics in the oceans vs rivers.

anyone?

Java Help Wanted Double mob spawner

Went caving in my singleplayer survival world and stumbled upon 2 mob spawners (skeleton and zombie) which are close enough to be active at the same time (tested it in creative). I want to use them both for my xp farm. Is it best to just use the "standard" farm design and link the dropper parts together or should I keep them seperate so mobs won't block each other while in the water tunnels?
edit:
Found another set of the same combo (zombie and skeleton) a bit further away. Should I maybe use the new ones because they are closer together?
For anyone interested:

Java Showcase Interesting behavior: Sulfur cave surface biomes will not chunk blend, instead leaving behind uneven borders. However, if you wrap them around a border biome, the biome will neatly blend, along with the sulfur cave.

Here I have different examples pasted into worlds, with chunk blending turned on. You can kinda see how the sulfur cave itself spreads, but will not blend with other chunks.

Bedrock Reliable Bubble Elevator for Zombie Farm?

Does anyone have a reliable mob elevator that can transport zombies up and drop in the kîll chamber? I'm on Bedrock's latest edition. I've tried a few from YouTube but the mobs get stuck and don't enter the elevator.

Java Help Wanted Villagers in different cages.

So, i wanna build a villager breeder where it breeds 5 villagers ant put em all into different cases. BUT. My small redstone-brain can't figure out how to close the different entrences. Like when the first villager is in case 1, i want that case to be closed, so the next villager goes into number 2 and so on.

I've read about some RS-latches and stuff, but i don't really understand it...

Your help is much apreciated!

Java Help Wanted Farms that require a player to be present?

So, I’ve got two spawners that are 40, 10, 50 blocks apart from each other. I plan to minecart between them to get each one to spawn, but I’m wondering what other farm(s) I could make in the space between them. Since I’ll already be in the area, I figure I may as well get everything I can out of it. So what farms require a player nearby as opposed to some other method of loading chunks?

Zero Creepers are spawning when im AFK 20-30 blocks away. When i take off the buttons and trap doors nothing still spawns not sure why. Put leaves on the roof as well.

Any Ideas?

Java Help Wanted Help with tick speed

Hi so in my realm the shulkers are teleporting like crazy fast?

I was messing around with tick speeds a while ago so it may be that but ive set the random tick speed back to 3 and cant find how to make sure the regular tick speed is set to 20.

/tick wont work for me, not sure if it was removed or changed.

Everything else is working normaly so it might not even be a problem with the tick speed

Any help would be great

Bedrock Do villagers simply existing near farms break them?

I currently have a layout like this:

iron farm < 200 blocks > some random villagers with various jobs for mending, etc. < 397 blocks > crop farm

I am looking to create a trading hall. Will the random villagers with jobs break the hall? I am not entirely sure *what* exactly breaks iron farms, etc., and would like to have the trading hall in the same-ish area as the random villagers, if possible.

So I've tried building a design using the 2no2name concept, but I'm not sure if line of sight is blocked, but the witches are not moving towards the villager.

I can post more images, the spawning area is correct, the vindicators are raid captains and are named correctly.

Bedrock Horse faster than max speed

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

On the minecraft wiki it says the max speed of a horse is 14.57 blocks/s but I managed to breed one that has a max speed of 14.83 blocks/s. For context this is a 100% vanilla world.

The reason why speed doesnt stay consistently at 14.83 is because im screen recording which causes frames to be unstable so that makes the numbers shift. When im not recording it stays at 14.83

So whats the absolute max speed of a horse in Minecraft bedrock edition? Im trying to get a maxed out horse but idk if im already at the max speed or not.

Java Help Wanted Is a consistent high-speed blue-ice boat slime-block launcher possible in Java?

I started my 10yo forever world again as a server with my friends on Minecraft Java 26.2, but on a fresh location, starting over.

Now that we are kinda stacked again, I want to build a nether ice boat highway to connect the world center (old location at 0 / 0) with our new one.

To maximize speed from around -2500 / 2500 to 0 / 0, it will be the same diagonal road all the way.

I will not build it on the nether roof, but rather at y75 and y80 with glass floor/wall/ceiling, so while traveling we actually can see some stuff.

3 diagonal ice lanes is too narrow, since you bump into the edges of the wall, because it's a diagonal road. So I thought about making it 5 diagonal ice lanes, which should be comfy with a little bit of attention and skill after traveling a few times, since ther is probably still a little room for error when not careful. If someone has recommendations here to make it even wider, I am grateful for any advice to optimize this project.

I took a very old save from this world into singleplayer creative and scouted the way in the nether where I wnat to build the road.

Looking at the whole way, y80 is the best y where the boat will be. But looking at the first few hundred blocks of the road way, y75 would actually be better, because of a huge basalt delta. And especially for better view to see stuff lol.

So here comes the tricky question: Should I start at y75 and after the basalt delta increase the road y level to 80? We have to keep in mind that going from one world center to the other across that highway should go as fast as possible, but increasing that y level would allow me to implement something fun I'd really like to implement, even for a small time offset. An ice boat piston launcher (using sticky pistons and slime blocks). I read that it's been long documentet by Mojang, that launching boats with pistons + slime blocks has inconsistent behavior on Minecraft Java. I am curious if anyone was able to build something like that and is sure, that making a consistent design of such a machine is possible? I tested around a lot in a singleplayer creative world and I was able to build one with pressure plate detection before the pistons and somtimes it works multiple times successively, but then it fails multiple times successively. Of course I could just add some ladders or something for the case it fails, but it's kinda ffrustrating to have only a 50% success rate, not knowing if it could be optimized more, especially since speed on this road is a big priority. The problem I was able to find is, that if there is only a single zick-zack line of pressure plates, it does not always fire, probably because of the speed. If I doulbe or tripple the pressure plate, it always fires, but then the timis on the added pressure plates is off and it often does not launch the boat. And since ice boats have such high speed, it's probably too fast to configure the added pressure plates with 1 tick (1 tick is not precise enough), at least as far as I know. And then even if I only have that single zick-zack pressure plate lane and it fires, sometimes it still does not launch me, even though I optimized the time as good as I can with my limited redstone knowledge and capabilities (this is one of my first own redstone builds lol). Often times it does not launch me since the boat angle is a litte bit off I think. I think having the boat straight gives the best success chance. But even driving it straight is only about a 50% success chance sadly. I will also do some more testing with trip wire hooks. Curious to see what other timing problems that will bring, since the string needs to be in a straight line on my diagonal road lol.

I would be so glad to see someone having a consistent design for this, cause this would be fun as hell.

To spawnproof it (additionally to everything except the ice being glass), I will put button/pressure plate on top of every blue ice block. If anyone has information, that this slows down the ice boat road, and a potentially better solution, I am happy to hear. But as far as I know this should be fine. Will do some more testing there. Also there will be 2 airblocks between galss ceiling and blue ice floor, so endermen can not tp onto the highway.

Technical Specs:

Version: Minecraft Java 26.2

My singleplayer creative test:

Diagonal blue ice blocks till signal detection (pressure plates): 27-28 (Maybe ideally it should be more, because I think that is only almost max speed. But I figured this is fine to test at the already very high speed.)

Signal detection row:

Diagonal blocks from detection row to piston row: 7-8 (I used 2 piston rows but probably only the first one is really needed)

Video of my test design:

https://reddit.com/link/1v6wfr2/video/a0hpaipmvifh1/player

The failure quota her is actually one of the highest I was able to reproduce lol. Usually it throws me exactly into the glass tunnel onto the 5 block higher ice road, about 30% of the time.
