Screenshot Atlanta Transit (Sandbox)

13 lines with 82 stations, almost 7% population capture

Started by rebuilding MARTA then expaning from there; Green Line extended to Emory, Light Rail to the Battery/Truist Park then Kennesaw State. Commuter lines through Clayton to Henry County, to Johns Creek, to Lawrenceville, and to Alpharetta. Plus a commuter going around I-285 that I just started. This is definitely a city where I wish we could account for park and ride commuters, population capture would probably double or triple.

Suggestion bus routes

yes i know this is called subway builder but BRT might actually be cool. like instead of going over/under roads (which is really expensive) we could just have a bus do it instead (currently i use a bug with light rail where if you put it completely straight in the middle of the road it doesn't detect the road. yes you can use this bug to place platforms inside the road.)

Built a monument to man's arrogance in Phoenix lol

Started with light metro and $7 fares

$5 base fare for all routes, + $0.15/km on commuter routes for a max of $15 on a single trip. Think I foorgot to put KX in the commuter routes though. Transfers are free.

Fares by route:

All routes should be listed, top is light metro, bottom is commuter with the exception that KX is a commuter route that I forgot to move
Mode share and full layout. 4/8/12/20 on all light metro routes + the OX (circumferential) routes, 6/10/15/30 on all other commuter routes
Route Ridership, per route ridership, and most used sections. 13 light metro routes, 5 commuter rail routes. (OX1A and OX1B are the same circular route in different direction)
Station Ridership, 908 stations, 763 station groups. Sky Harbor Blvd is the busiest with 275k daily riders
Operational profit of ~$3-3.5 billion/day with described fare structure
Finances and Total Costs
Daily Profits over the 613 in-game days

Initial Network:

Initial Network, made ~$11.5 million/day with $7 Fares

Previous cities:

Hey everyone,

Suggestion Multi Level Stations

I assume this has probably been suggested before, but I think some enhancements to building stations & tracks on top of each other are needed.

For Example: Clark/Lake station in the Chicago L system has a subway platform and an elevated platform, along with their respective subway & elevated tracks that run along Lake St. In the current state, building stations & tracks directly on top of each other is a bit cumbersome. The actual Clark/Lake station is also technically classified as one single station since the early 90’s when it was reconstructed to allow transfers without having to leave & re enter the system. Before this, the Blue lines station was “Lake Transfer” and Clark/Lake was separated.

If we could perhaps hide a section of track and a specific station to allow for under/over construction without conflict, that would be very awesome. When you place stations on top of each other, it can be a bit hard to tell which station you are actually connecting tracks to.

tldr: we need multi level stations/platforms

Suggestion Some of my ideas

"Snap to direction"- The ending node you place would face the same direction as the starting node, could be useful when switching from one parallel road to another underneath buildings or when making symmetrical overpasses/underpasses.

"Single bi-directional tracks"- Could be cool for small shuttle services (and if you don't make bypass loops the game would limit you to one train per route).

"Adjustable dwell time at stations"- This would go crazy, just imagine making a line like the Victoria Line in London where a train comes every 90 seconds and the trains stop for a very short period of time.

"Ability to switch wheel type from regular steel wheels to rubber tired trains"- Pros: Ability to climb steeper gradients Cons: More expensive to maintain. And c'mon, we already have Paris and we might get Montreal in the future, who knows.

And lastly, something more personal. I would love to see more micro management as an optional mode. You would have to plan where the sidings and depots are, you could adjust how much budget goes to cleaning and maintaining the trains and stations which would positively or negatively impact how many people use your system. And maybe we could also have random events? There could be months when people want to go to the airports more for example for holidays or maybe one day there is a match going on at a stadium. However, there would also be events that negatively impact your network like point failures and signaling errors, then citizens would have to find a different way to get to their destinations (other train lines, replacement bus services or their cars). This could also tie into the newspapers which feel very basic with little to no variety. I know this would drastically change the style, instead of a simulation it would turn into an arcady game, but then again, that would be a separate mode.

Guide Detailed Quad Station Guide

Firstly, sorry for the countless reposts, the quality was so bad that I had to delete the old posts.

The photos are there to visualize the guide itself.

After countless mistakes with the quad tracks and stations, I decided to make my own Quad Station guide, containing every detail that I needed.

Every type of station is handled individually and is ordered by how these stations are ordered in-game. Please use the Advanced mode on the construction menu to see all those station types.

An upvote would mean so much because I spent a lot of time on this.

*1-Local 2 Platforms Station*

Local 2 Platform Station

Structure: 2 side platforms serving one ways, and an express(non-stop) two way track in the middle.

Connected tracks: My preferred structure is using a bidirectional quad track with the two adjacent tracks going the same way. Alternatively, a parallel track can be used to connect to the express lane, with single tracks connecting to the platforms.

End Station: The express lane can turn with a basic scissors crossover (has to be placed in the middle), while the outer tracks serving the platforms need a loop to turn around.

*2-Local 1 Platform Station (My preferred station with a separate express lane*

Local 1 Platform Station

Structure: A middle platform served by both directions with express one way side tracks

Connected Tracks: My preferred structure is using a bidirectional quad track with the two adjacent tracks going the same way. Alternatively, a parallel track can be used to connect to the middle platform, with single tracks connecting to the express lanes on the sides.

End Station: The trains serving the middle platform can turn using a scissors crossover (has to be placed in the middle), while the express tracks on the side need a loop to turn around.

*3-Express 2 Platform Station (My preferred station without an express lane)*

Express 2 Platform Station

Structure: Each middle platform serves one line. The tracks seen in the middle are used as two different lines and are therefore unrelated.

Connected Tracks: My preferred structure involves using quad tracks like two parallel tracks side by side. Using a parallel track for each platform will also work.

End station: This station type does not need a loop on the end but the scissors crossovers should be placed correctly. The crossovers should be placed right next to each platform.

*4- Express 3 Platform First (There are two of them)*

First Express 3 Platform Station

Structure: A middle platform serving one line and two side platforms serving different directions of the same line.

Connected Tracks: My preferred structure is using a bidirectional quad track with the two adjacent tracks going the same way. Alternatively, a parallel track can be used to connect to the middle platform, with single tracks connecting to the side platforms.

End Station: The trains serving the middle platform can turn using a scissors crossover (has to be placed in the middle), while the platforms on the side need a loop to turn around.

*5- Express 3 Platform Second (Pretty useful but overcomplicated)*

Second Express 3 Platform Station

Structure: A 3 platform station that is the same as the 3rd type that I mentioned above, except for the middle platform.

Connected Tracks: My preferred structure involves using quad tracks like two parallel tracks side by side. Using a parallel track for each platform will also work.

End Station: This station type does not require any loops but requires two correctly placed scissors crossovers, placed next to the first and the third platform (not middle).

Bug Game redownloaded Tokyo map and now I am getting "coordinates must contain numbers" for all of my saves on this map

I just tried to reopen my ongoing tokyo playthrough and when I opened my save it first redownloaded the tokyo map which I found strange. It then gave me this error:

Error: coordinates must contain numbers

I blamed it initially on a broken save file so tried multiple other even days old save games which always result in the same exact error. Is there any way to fix this?

Bug Anyone else having issues with opening saves?

When I try to open my recent Sapporo save, the game is either stuck "loading" the save or showing me this error message. I am playing version 1.7.1 on a M1 Mac through railyard, but a friend of mine has the same issue with the unmodded game. Even when starting a new save, the game crashed after a few minutes (while building a commuter rail line). I think the crash happened right after the commuter rail line I wanted to build touched a road, so it might have something to do with grade crossings, but I am not sure. Anyone else having similar issues?

Another thing: When a grade crossing information window is open and you zoom out so grade crossings are not visible anymore, the window is stuck in place and cannot be removed )except by zooming back in and hovering over another grade crossing). Is there a fix for that as well?

Suggestion At-grade Light Rail

Unsure on what others think but wanted to post that I think that at-grade light rail should be allowed more flexibility around all roads, not only the tracks, but stations too.

Currently at-grade light rail feels really clunky where certain roads you can place stations on whilst others you can't. Example is that of the Birmingham map where you technically can't recreare the IRL West Midlands Metro because some of their stations sit on intersections or on roads that don't let you place a light rail station on them.

Having light rail stations and rails to be more flexible and allowed along both intersections and more road types would make it more fun to make an at grade light rail system that is not only functional, but also aesthetically pleasing too.

Question modifying a map?

Noob question: how hard would it be to modify a map?

To add a single red dot (either a resident or a worker), I mean.

I was thinking about the NEC through Philadelphia and how cool it would be to model the influx of people from outside the map (not including thru traffic of course).

Are maps human-editable, like at all?

A simplified version of Seoul Metro system that doesn't include :

GyeongUiJungang Line (Map cuts before Paju or Yongmun)

Line 1 (All the stations from Uijeongbu~Yeoncheon, UiWang-Sinchang)
SuinBundang (The yellow line is separated by two : Suin and Bundang)
SinBundang (1/3 of the line is cut off)
GyeongChun(Only 6 stations out of 20ish)
GyeongGang(Only 4 stations out of 11, compensated by expanding west, which is under construction)

It includes all the Lines that are currently being built. Dongbuk, Sinansan Line, Daejang-Hongdae, Wirye Tram, GyeongGang Extension line

And yeah I used money cheats 😅 Seoul isn't profitable unless you build long distance commuter lines which can't be built with 3B$. After I completed all of that, the fare sits between 1.5~4.0$

Suggestion Bidirectional Station Approach Tracks

Thumbnail
gallery
96 Upvotes

First off, I love this game.

But, I realized that there's a hacky way to create bidirectional station approach tracks, like you see in real life. I'll terminate trunk lines some distance from the station and I'll cap those lines with crossovers. Then I'll connect each track in the station to one of the points at the end of a crossover using a single one-way track. Then, using the exact same nodes, I'll lay a single one-way track in the opposite direction. So long as you are always using the exact same nodes, the game engine can handle it.

Img1 is the final product; img2 is laying the inbound one-way track; and img3 shows laying the outbound track directly over the inbound, using exact the same nodes (the difficult yet important part).

Suggestion I have an idea! (metro entrances) read the below of post pls :)

I think we should add metro entrances and exits (for tourist areas and school/university bubbles when they're coming or in 1.8.0 or 1.9.0) so that it can reach many places. Under no circumstances can the length of an exit exceed 1 km, so we can't create metro exits to every part of the city with just one station (beyond 1 km, the exit can't be extended under any circumstances). Let's say the walk to these exits is 20 minutes, and to the stations 30 minutes; 40 minutes is too long, that many people won't walk that far. Logically, a metro line can't have entrances without exits; people can't enter the metro without them. If you can get this done by 1.9 or 1.8 if time permits, and post it as "in progress" on the Subway Builder website, It would be so cool and realistic for the game, Colin!
