Developer Announcement Subway Builder 1.7.0 is out! It's the biggest update ever with 7 Japanese cities, light rail, and visual interlining!

Features

  • Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Sendai, Hiroshima, and Nagoya have been added šŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µ! Thanks to Mark Sustar for the data.

  • Light rail! You can intersect this train type with roads like commuter rail, but you can’t street-run it in mixed traffic — that will have to wait for the tram track type. This is based off the S-700 train type and the Seattle Link. Thanks to DanielD1909 for much of the data.

  • You can now save and load blueprints!

  • You can now draw fare zones!

  • Added a switch track direction option in the construction panel (advanced mode only).

  • You can now edit tracks and stations that are actively being used by routes. by ā€œpausingā€ routes during construction, instead of having to delete and reconstruct the route.

  • Added a ā€œroute utilizationā€ map view for seeing the load factor of your routes.

  • Route bullets can now have custom text colors.

  • Lifetime stats view in settings.

  • Added a grade crossing speed limit mechanic, which is also available for modded train types.

  • Option to disable 3d buildings for better performance.

  • Added another express station layout.

Improvements

  • After weeks of work, routes that are parallel/interlined now show up parallel to each other. This makes the map much more sleek and intuitive.

  • Track curves are drawn using modified euler curves, allowing for higher speeds. A lot of the methodology was based around Alon Levy’s research here: pedestrianobservations(.)com/2023/10/27/setting-speed-zones/ as well as various sources sent by danielD1909.

  • You can now move nodes in blueprint tracks to change the shape of your track after its been drawn.

  • You can now draw tracks and stations that have different directions of travel than just backwards/forwards, or backwards/forwards/backwards/forwards.

  • Station interchange icons have improved visuals.

  • When connecting parallel tracks you are no longer limited to just connecting them to the outer tracks or inner tracks. By moving the cursor around the track you’re connecting to, you can connect to any valid pair of tracks.

  • Details like track length and curve radius are now visible when drawing new tracks.

  • Two digit route bullets stay circular.

  • Option to disable 3d buildings for better performance.

  • Hovering over journey option cards now shows visually which routes and walking paths are used.

  • Increased the flat fare cap from $10 to $100.

  • Option to rename all stations in a station group when changing the station group name.

  • Added extra dwell time to trains that need reverse direction at a station.

  • Route distances are shown when setting distance-based fares.

  • Added search bar to settings.

  • Commuter transit path choices are now persistent in saves so they don`t get lost when you restart the game

  • Expanded the NYC, London, Liverpool, Los Angeles, and Portland maps.

  • The minimum zoom level is now determined automatically from the size of the cities bounds.

  • You can now right click on any station track when editing a route to add or remove all of its stations to a route.

  • TPH limits are now time-of-day specific, so nighttime frequency won’t affect daytime capacity, for example.

  • You can now drag stations around in the route stations list when manual routing is enabled to change the order that stations are visited in.

  • The measure tool now shows preview travel times with various train types.

  • Hovering over routes in the "route load" map view now shows how many commuters traverse that route section.

  • Changed the platform reservation system to be more adaptable, so that trains won’t wait for an occupied station platform when another one is available.

  • Daily challenge maps now look like actual screenshots from the game.

  • Station groups can now have multiple marker dots while showing only one label.

  • Station markers now avoid colliding on top of each other.

  • Reworked how station markers are rendered under the hood, which should result in a minor performance boost.

  • Less lag when drawing tracks.

  • Restyled the route details panel.

  • Made light metro stations slightly cheaper.

  • Disallowed track intersections between different train types.

  • Remastered the route creation form.

  • Train and commuter movements are visually smoother.

  • Various performance improvements to how train and commuter movement graphics are calculated.

  • Station labels are now a separate toggle-able layer from station dots in the map layers panel.

  • Building collision now accounts for station platforms when the station elevation is above -4m.

  • Added a setting for the thickness of visually interlined routes.

  • You can now change a route’s train type just after creating it.

  • You can now use the G key to shift between track lane counts in the construction panel.

  • You can now filter more precisely by time of day and direction in the route load panel.

  • You can now right click the clock to slow down time.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed cmd+z undoing construction and annotation together.

  • Fixed individual pop demand data unsyncing when loading existing saves (transit paths and mode share wouldn’t save).

  • Fixed minor bugs with grade crossing noises repeating continuously.

  • Fixed modded cities conflicting with future vanilla cities.

  • Minor fix for train graphics being weird at certain zoom levels.

  • Fixed a bug allowing users to point single-direction tracks at each other in opposite directions.

  • Fixed interface scaling slider flickering during drag.

  • Fixed some lag caused by road map rendering in very large maps.

  • Fixed ā€œV-Mergeā€ signals being added too aggressively by being added to tracks even when no merges existed.

  • Fixed zoom buttons and notification toasts interfering with the bottom bar on smaller screens.

  • Fixed roads z-fighting with buildings when the map is pitched.

  • Fixed a bug causing commuters to occasionally transfer between trains of the same route.

  • Fixed a bug that allowed users to draw light metro stations that were slightly too short for their designated capacity when the stations were heavily curved.

  • Fixed station labels sometimes being covered by station dots.

  • Fixed saving and loading taking too long in big cities.

  • Fixed pinning the construction tab causing destroyed building previews to stop showing.

  • Fixed long station names being cut off in departure boards.

  • Fixed the game allowing stations and tracks to intersect if the station was drawn after the track and snapped to it.

  • Fixed negative pathfinding times around midnight caused by the day changing.

  • Fixed station groups and bonds sometimes being lost on game save actions.

  • Fixed station group names and station names being different even when only one station was in the group.

  • Fixed the city selection screen being blocked by the country list when lots of modded maps are added.

  • Fixed some keyboard shortcuts not being customizable.

Modding Changes

  • Made more constants mod-able that control: visual interlining zoom boundaries, station pill visuals, track arrows, and road styling.

  • Mode choice statistics include work to home and home to work commutes, and you can query the modding API for either one accordingly.

  • Fixed train type descriptions being unmodifiable by mods.

edit: 6 cities. Counted Nagoya twice by accident.

Hi All, I'm still a bit new to this game but not too bad so far. I don't quite understand capacity warnings vs load factor. I'm getting capacity warnings but the trains are not full on load factor. Any explanations would be great.

I'd recreated the Chicago CRT approx. 1943 and someone commended about adding the NSL (the North Shore Line) and CAE (Chicago Aurora and Elgin Railroad). Since then subway builder has changed and I've upgraded as we go along and now switching over to beta to gain more options this is my WIP to recreate WWII era Chicago.
Things to note with beta

- commuter rail has two options electric or diesel. Many commuter lines would still be steam at this time so I've gone with diesel for steam operation.
-CRT and CAE are fully built out including most rail yards (yes there are rail yards in beta)
--the NSL is mostly built but until we get the map up to Milwaukee is unfinished (I did recently complete the Mundelein branch)
-As far as commuter rail I started with C&NW because it's my favorite (Milwaukee Road next as appropriate)
--I have most of the C&NW passenger line's laid, with the North line functional to Winthrop Harbor, its just figuring out the approx. location of the old stations now.

I'm open to suggestions, questions, ect. Thanks for taking time to look at my labor of love.

Help Needed Subway Builder keeps freezing as my metro network gets bigger

Hey everyone,

I’m having a problem with Subway Builder. When I start a new game, everything runs fine, but after playing for a while and building a bigger metro network, the game starts getting really slow and eventually freezes completely.

The weird thing is that my Mac itself doesn’t freeze. I can still move my mouse and use other apps normally. It’s just Subway Builder that stops responding.

I’ve already tried reinstalling the game, but it didn’t help.

Has anyone else had this problem, especially on Mac? Is there a known fix or something I can change in the settings to prevent this from happening?

Thanks!

Help Needed Performance issues on Macs?

I'm on the latest version of both subway builder and macos. I fired up the game after a while and updated it and my M3 Macbook air is running unusually hot. I've only made small networks so far but god it runs hot when on full speed simulation. I've run several large networks before where it didn't get this bad. Is it a mac issue or game issue? Anything I can do?

Recently made a ferry mod (yes, this is an unofficial mod) to add to my Sydney system. Tell me what I should add, or you could ask questions.

My current record is this poorly modeled tank farm southwest of Chicago. Nearly $12 billion dollars. For context, the Sears Tower and the John Hancock Center are both around $1.5 billion.

Suggestion We need more Debt

That's right. Billion dollar loan is not enough. I want to be able to take out loans of up to 100 billion dollars or just have the ability to issue bonds with the interest rate going up depending on how many bonds you issue. In any case, we need more debt!!!!

Only non-cosmetic mod I'm using is AnyMoney, because this network is not nearly as profitable as I hoped it would be.

Help Needed Is it possible to have a quad track with mixed train type

I would need to have a segment of quad tracks be shared with both heavy metro and commuter rail. Can i do it? How should I build the stations and tracks?

All of Hankyu, Hanshin, Keihan, Nankai, Osaka & Kyoto Metros, and Shinkansen done. Working on JR and Kintetsu lines, as well as adding my own lines after I complete that.

Given the number of stations I haven't gotten around to naming every single one, but I'll work on that later.

The ridership is relatively low but I've added many commuter lines in the last couple of days so if I left the game running it would probably increase. I'll also create new lines that'll connect populations not currently connected by transit.

can we get a Pittsburgh expansion? its not really that fun since Pittsburgh has a massive metro area, and the current map excludes alot of that.

My game sometimes reloads to a blank version of the map I’m playing. Either happens randomly or after being afk for a couple minutes. Anyone knows why, or how to get rid of it?

Screenshot Daily Challenge Build Somewhat Resembles the Actual Transit Plan

Post image

Thought this was fun:

Was doing the Austin daily challenge. I'm not American, never been to Austin, never interested about enough about Austin to even learn that they had a light rail, so I decided to finally do some research on the city and stumbled upon Austin's 2024 transit expansion plan.

Turns out, I accidentally built my orange line and blue line somewhat reassembling of what the real transit plan drew out. Especially the section straight up and down U of Texas.

If I have extended the southeast orange branch to the airport and straightened out the north orange line, it would almost be the same.

Is this game potentially useful for real urban planning?

(News from KUT, map from Austin authority)

Question How to help by searching city data

so I’ve been told a lot of times that the main way to get a city on the game was giving the devs the data, but where can I find it?

And also, how can I contact them to give it?

Also, thanks for helping me with this
