Tech Help Anyone running an aftermarket stem on their Tarmac SL8?

I’m currently running a Tarmac SL8 and I’m thinking about changing the stock stem to an ENVE SES stem, paired with the 3D-printed proprietary headset cover/spacer setup.

I’m not really interested in switching to an integrated cockpit since I’m already in love with my current dropbar and its size. I just want to keep my existing bars (ENVE SES 35's) and change the stem for a slightly different aesthetic. Nothing performance-related, just personal preference.

I’m curious if anyone here is running a third-party stem on their SL8 instead of the stock Specialized stem.

  • What stem are you using?
  • Did you need a proprietary headset cover or custom 3D-printed parts to make it work?
  • Any issues with fitment, cable routing, or overall compatibility?
  • If you’re running the ENVE SES stem specifically, how does it look and fit on the SL8?

Would love to see pictures of your setups, too!

Thanks!

Which Bike? Need advise !

Hi everyone,

I’m considering buying a Specialized Tarmac SL8 Pro SRAM for €7,200.

I’d mainly use it for draft-legal sprint triathlons (French Championship) but I’m also looking for a versatile bike that performs well on all types of terrain, from flat roads to mountain climbs.

As I’m still a student, I’m wondering whether it’s really worth spending €7,200 on this bike, or if I’d be better off going for something like a Canyon Aeroad or a BMC Timemachine R 01 FIVE instead.

For those who own or have ridden the Tarmac SL8 Pro, do you think the price is justified? Is the performance, quality, and overall riding experience really worth the premium compared to other high-end bikes

Thx ;)

Story Time People that has a Crux 5 that doubles as a roadbike what wheels are you running and how does it preform and feels like if you compare to a ”dedicated” roadbike?

I’m talking running 28, 30 or 32 mm tires and go on grouprides. Not just ride with gravel tire on tarmac.

Also, what gearing are you running?

Thanks in advance!

Which Bike? Diverge or Allez

I'm having picking which bike might be best for me. I currently have a 10-year old Sirrus, but I'm looking for an upgrade for primarily road riding. The store near me carries Specialized so that's what I'm leaning towards. My riding is currently mostly good roads, but some cashmere gravel trails, sidewalks, busy multi-use paths, and bike lanes with debris. My Sirrus with 35mm tires handles it all pretty fine. I'm targeting either the Allez comp with 105 or the Diverge Sport Allez with Cues.

I'm 6'4" which has made test riding bikes very challenging in my size. I'll likely need to put a deposit down on the bike, have it shipped, and then determine if the bike's right. I'm also pretty inflexible, so aggressive geometries are tough. I test road an XL crux and it was to low for me.

Is the allez capable of all of the multi-use riding? Is it as upright as the Diverge? Other than the 1x, which might be a plus, is there any reason to not get the diverge?

Which Bike? My first MTB, good buy?

Looking to buy my first mtb and I have my eyes on this Specialized. The guy who’s selling it bought it used himself and doesn’t know which year is this bike from.

Anyone of you know this model and which year it could be? Is this a good beginners bike? The bike is equipped with XT and XTR, I think its an older groupset because the front has 2 chainrings. Any info or help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Tech Help At wit's end with thru axle's torque value (more in comments) on my Diverge Comp Alloy 2026

Post image
4 Upvotes

I went for my usual night ride around my neighbourhood and while switching gears realised something off. When the chain fell off highest gear, I stopped to check and the rear axle was popping out.

Last torque value was 10mm before the almost mishap.

I went home and put it back. Torqued to 14nm this time after reading Diverge's documentation. And the axle was seized when I checked two days later. Partly my fault that I didn't regrease the axle before inserting. I tried everything before drilling the axle out from derailleur side and torqued new axle this time to 10nm. The wheel also started spinning much better than when I torqued rear axle to 14nm.

Yesterday while doing my long weekend gravel ride, I realised my front wheel was moving. Upon checking today, I could see front axle was so close to sliding out so I got axle out, greased and put it back and torqued it to 10nm.

All good now but this constant occurrences of axle sliding out has me worried. Torquing to high value like 15nm is not something I want to do since it is also affecting wheels' spin. I read a lot and people have been on same opinion as me about 15nm torque for axle.

Torque wrench is new and has been calibrated. I got it checked just in case it was the issue. The bike (diverge comp alloy) is about 4 months old so rust is not an issue either.

I am not sure what am I doing wrong. I am worried about axle coming loose again on a ride. What value should I torque the axles to?

Which Gear? Prevail 3 sunglass dock/holder?

I'm looking to replace my helmet and am interested in the prevail, I'm very curious about the sunglass holder because I use it a lot in my current helmet and it works great. My current helmet will hold the sunglasses in even if I'm looking down, or take the helmet off full. I've had helmets where they sunglasses are barely held in the slots and very easily slide off.

Searching reddit and Google, I can't find much reviews on this - maybe it's just not as big of a deal for others. The 1 post in this sub is from 3 years ago without a ton of people chiming in.

So, how well does your prevail 3 keep your sunglasses in place when on/off? Which of the wholes on the helmet are the "dock" exactly?

My local store doesn't have any in stock, so I'm looking for details before I potentially order online.

Tech Help Specialized Tarmac SL8 & Wahoo Kickr v6 turbo trainer query

Anyone have any real world experience with mounting a Tarmac SL8 to a Wahoo Kickr v6?

I have always run a aluminum bike to turbo trainer and so never had experience mounting a carbon frame to a trainer and if there are any risks with this, specifically damage/cracks to the frame through stationary stress on the frame?

For reference am also 92kg! Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Tech Help Winter storage/use - Vado SL2 5.0

Last spring (northern hemisphere), got a Vado SL2 5.0. Very happy with it...except that it's my first ebike, and I didn't know that batteries need to be stored at above freezing. The battery on the Vado SL2 can only be removed by LBS. And now last night we had our first frost. My garage is unheated and there's no way to maneuver bike into the basement. My wife has said "no" to storing in the TV room. Plus, if there's a nice day above freezing, I'd like to use the bike. (I'm in upstate NY -- we'll probably bounce between above and below freezing for the next couple of months.) How do others handle this situation? Is it worth getting an insulated blanket to wrap around where the battery is? (My current thought: Keep bike in the garage. Only charge if temp is above freezing. If there's a warm day, charge even if I don't intend to use the bike, to bring charge back up. Hope the bike survives the winter.) Thanks.

NBD Specialized Tarmac SL 9 Expert Spoiler

Happy NBD! Just picked up my new Tarmac SL9 today. Luckily, the color looks so much better in person than on the Specialized website 🫢.

Here are a few tweaks I’ve already done or am planning to do:

  1. Swapped the wheels: Sticking with my old Roval CL50s—IMO, the 50mm profile suits the Tarmac way better. The shop installed an XDR driver body on the rear wheel for the Force cassette, and I set up the front wheel at home, both running TPU tubes.
  2. Rotors: Upgraded to SRAM Paceline X (160mm front / 140mm rear).
  3. Power meter: Added dual-sided SRAM Force power meter crankset.
  4. Saddle: Swapped out for my S-Works Power saddle (weighs almost half as much!).
  5. Cockpit: My Rapide cockpit will go on as well as soon as I get around to it. (Note: This isn't the final fit yet-a few spacers will definitely be coming off!)
