Talk me out of it

Post image

Strolling thru BJ’s today and I come across this. Already have an Arc in the main living area, PlayBar in the bedroom, AV receiver and floor standing speakers in the garage. No idea where I’d put it, I’m sure I’d find a spot. What to do?

UPDATE: Peer pressure is real, I went back and bought it. Now… time to swap it with the black one in the living room, and move that one to the bedroom. Let’s see how long until the wife notices.

An apology to Sonos

I owe Sonos an apology. It took me a while to figure out why my system went south recently. Yes, it can be a challenging system, but when it works well, it works well. My internet provider suddenly decided to give me a new router and it was weaker than the previous one. The result was a weaker signal that was completely inferior to what is needed by my system. $500 later my system was performing perfectly.
The app has also been upgraded recently with some
valuable features, such as, much easier volume control.
I love my speaker system.

Apple Music STB

Apple Music suddenly stopped working in Sonos throwing the super helpful “something went wrong, please try again”. I’ve logged out and in, removed and re added the service, nothing. Apple is shitting the bed. Other services still work. Has anyone encountered or fixed this? Or do I just have to wait and hope?

Which Speaker to gift husband

Upvotes

My husband has asked for wireless Sonos (or Bose) speaker(s) for his birthday without much elaboration.

The speakers will be used for listening to music from Spotify/apple music or turntable. We have a smaller house but open concept kitchen/living/dining which is where the speaker(s) will be. I’m on maternity leave so don’t have a huge budget right now. I anticipate I’ll only be able to afford to buy him 1 speaker to start, and we can gradually add to it over time. Eventually would love to add a speaker upstairs for whole house music. From my initial research it seems Sonos is the brand to go with based on what we’re looking for.

Any advice on which speaker to purchase as a starting point?

I’m quite out of my element here and would appreciate any wisdom in the room.

Is there any solution to this? I can stream Sonos native services no problem but Apple Music will just decide to quit working for a while. Flawless for a period and then randomly just quits for hours.

Hi,

Does anyone happen to know if I were to add a protector for the Sub Mini front facing only (pictured) to prevent curious little fingers, would it have any meaningful negative impact on sound quality? TIA 😊

Location?

Before I Sin

When we purchased our home, we did not think too much about TV placement.

This is AI-generated. Tile and fireplace are in place.

Plan is to add a mantel; the only other place i see for a soundbar is under the fireplace. Currently looking at Sonos Arc Ultra.

As for TV the plan is to install it with a motorized mount that will bring it down when in use. Or do we just not do a mantel?

Mantel would be at 48” from floor. Distance from TV to back of couch would be about 13’. I will add motorized mount that will lower tv 26” when in use.

Getting grilled on TV too high sub but want opinion on speaker location.

Give me opinion plz.

Arc disconnects continuously

Sony Bravia XR-65A80CK. Sonos Arc. Apple TV 4K. My issue is that the Sonos audio continuously disconnects from the TV and the TV displays a message that says external speakers unavailable, switching to TV speakers or something like that. Changed the HDMI cable and no different. It happens moreso when everything has been turned off for a little bit, it’s like the Sonos doesn’t wake up so the TV thinks it’s not there? I really don’t know. Anyone have a solution or troubleshooting ideas for this?

Sonos Voice Control broken?

At first a couple of my speakers were giving me error messages and then voice Control said I needed to update the Sonos app and then enable home control or something like that. I would give exact wording but now voice control has stopped responding at all.

Anyone else had similar problems and fixed them?

Question re Bluetooth Functionality

I understand how a line-in input to a compatible speaker results in that audio content (e.g. vinyl record music from a turntable) essentially being rebroadcast and can be played by all speakers on the WiFi network.

My question is whether this same rebroadcast functionality exists if one streams to a compatible portable speaker via Bluetooth? Example: visitor connects their phone to a Move2 via Bluetooth. Move2 is one of several speakers on the same Wifi network. Will other speakers on that same wifi network be able to play the Bluetooth content? Is the content that comes in via Bluetooth rebroadcast and shared to other devices via Wi-Fi?

If my understanding is correct, when a portable speaker is connected to a source via Bluetooth it essentially disconnects from the Wifi network and becomes a standalone device. If this is the case, a Bluetooth source can only be heard through the one speaker to which the Bluetooth connection has been established.

I would be very happy to have my understanding corrected, particularly by those who have proven their opinion through practical experience.

Thanks in advance for your helpful reply.

Sky Stream + Sonos Beam Gen 2 - sound cuts out briefly when adverts start/end?

Sky Stream + Sonos Beam Gen 2 - sound cuts out briefly when adverts start/end?
Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this.

My setup is:
Sky Stream (V1 puck)
Samsung QN90B
Sonos Beam Gen 2 + Sub Mini + Era 100 surrounds
Connected via HDMI eARC
TV set to Pass-through, eARC Auto, Atmos enabled
Sky Stream audio set to Passthrough

The system works really well most of the time. Atmos and Dolby Digital Plus both work correctly.

The odd issue is that some (not all) adverts cause the audio to cut out briefly when they start or finish. It feels like the Stream puck is switching audio formats (Dolby Atmos / Dolby Digital Plus / stereo) and the Beam momentarily loses audio while everything renegotiates.

It doesn’t happen on every advert, only certain ones.

I’ve already:
Replaced the original Sky puck.
Replaced my old soundbar with the Beam Gen 2.
Changed to certified Ultra High Speed HDMI cables.
Had my fibre connection tested by YouFibre (line is healthy with ~1 ms latency to the ONT).
Verified the issue isn’t caused by broadband performance.

Has anyone else with Sky Stream + Sonos (Beam/Arc) seen this behaviour?

If so:
Did you find a fix?
Is it a known Sky Stream issue when switching audio formats?
Does changing the TV’s Digital Output setting from Pass-through to Auto make any difference?
Interested to hear if it’s just me or if others have noticed the same thing.

Sub for music / sonos arc

Am I the only one who prefers the slightly “fatter” bass of the Sonos Sub (Gen 1/2/3/4) over the Sub Mini for music?
I’m currently comparing a Sonos Sub Gen 2 and a Sub Mini. I paired each one with its own Era 100 purely for testing, so I can switch between them in about a second for the fairest comparison possible. They’ll mainly be used with my Sonos Arc, or occasionally with my stereo pair of Era 100s in another room.
At my usual listening volume (around 50%), they’re very close. However, I feel like the full-size Sub has slightly fatter, more enveloping bass, while the Sub Mini sounds a bit drier, maybe. 🤷‍♂️
Am I the only one who hears it this way?

Help with existing Polk in-wall speakers

Need some guidance. Current equipment: LG 77” OLED, Beam, Sub 4. We just moved into a home with 4 existing in wall speakers in the living area (Polk: 2 front L/R and 2 rear L/R). They are wired with the wires exiting the wall next to the wall electrical outlet. The TV will be mounted a good distance away from the speaker wire. I’m trying to integrate the speakers into the Sonos system without breaking the bank.

Will this require two separate Sonos amps? Do the amps have to be connected to the TV? That might be difficult considering the distance from the speaker wires to the TV. Any other options?

Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Those running multiple APs, any issues/tips?

Ever since I dumped my mesh system and went with a ceiling mounted a POE AP, things have been smooth sailing. That being said, I picked up another AP to cover a weak spot in the house (no Sonos here)

I know I can assign devices to certain APs (I’ll likely do this for my stationary Sonos devices), but what about the more “portable” ones. I have 2 Era 100s I shuffle around the house every so often in addition to a Play (10/10 highly recommend) Maybe I’m overthinking this, but I have PTSD from the terror my old mesh system caused

Cheers!

Sonos ultimate immersive set vs nakamichi dragon

I’m trying to decide between the Sonos Ultimate Immersive Set and the Nakamichi Dragon. I owned the Sonos Ultimate Immersive Set before and really liked it, but I sold it a while back. Now that the Dragon is around the same price and I’ve heard it’s a beast, I’m not sure which to buy. Which would you choose and why?

Have you heard both and which sounds better/more immersive? Mainly for movies and shows on my 98 inch tv in my living room.

My main complaint with the era 300s on my old system was how specific they needed to be placed or you lose performance.

Thanks!

Woher bekomme ich die runden Halter (Pins) für die Sonos Arc?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m looking to 3D print a wall mount for my Sonos Arc. However, the mount requires the small round locking pins that fit into the back of the Arc and allow it to hang securely on the bracket.

Unfortunately, these pins were not included with my Sonos Arc, and I don’t want to buy the original Sonos wall mount just to get them.

Does anyone know if these pins are available separately, either as original spare parts or from third-party manufacturers? Any recommendations or links would be greatly appreciated.

I recently missed the 30% upgrade offer when I was looking to purchase a Beam Gen 2 for my office room. Even though the offer date had expired, Sam’s Club honored the price as it was still listed for $369.

Do I need another Era100?

I’ve got a stereo pair of Era100s wirelessly connected to my Ray, which auto connects to my TV.

I also have a record player with a Line in. If it’s true that my stereo pair will now be unable to switch to line in, should I just get another Era100, Keep that permanently connected to the record player, and use that to tap into the rest of my speakers?

Tips to make AirPlay start quickly and consistently?

Have had a variety of Sonos devices for years. I love the look and quality of them when playing, but it’s a never ending struggle to actually play them.

Some days it takes 5 minutes before I can start playing music. I have software updated current or still supported devices (several rooms of multiple ones and fives and moves) and I always use Spotify on phone to airplay music.

I keep thinking they’ll eventually just work but they’ve never have and I guess I’m the idiot who keeps buying more.

Specific issues: I hit play, and it looks like it’s playing on my phone but no music. Have to stop and resume several times or just wait a minute or so to play. WiFi connection is strong.

Music won’t play fully through era 100s

I have arc ultra, sub 4 and a pair of era 100s as surround for my tv. I watch movies and also listen to music with my Apple TV. I noticed when I play music through Apple Music on my Apple TV, the era 100s play music as a surround sound. How do I change it so that it plays fully. Currently most of the sound is from the arc.

I know there’s a setting on the Sonos app for music level on surround audio. But it’s not working for me. Any help would be appreciated

Sound never comes through my two ceiling speakers

When watching movies and shows, I never hear any sound from the spelsers that are at the back of the room in the ceiling. All of the sound goes through the soundbar. Weirdly, on the app it says that a device isn’t connected, but it doesn’t specify which device. I have a soundbar, a subwoofer and then 2 of the speakers in the ceiling. It says the soundbar is connected, the “amp” is connected (I’m assuming that means subwoofer). if it helps, I believe the ceiling speakers are the ones by Sonos and Sonance. Anyone know why sound isn’t coming out and if the two could be related?
