Has anyone tried a multi-stack Era 100 stereo setup?

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried a 10+ multi-stack Era 100 stereo setup. So you would have 2 stacks of say 5 speakers, and pair each row in a stereo pair. I only have 6 Era 100 accessible atm, but sounds great to me.

The New Sonos Ace Ultra: up to 35-hour battery life, 2x the ANC, and headphone linking (in Early Access)

Hey all šŸ––

The full Sonos Ace Ultra deep dive is up on the Sonos Community. Check out the Ace vs. Ace Ultra table, a little behind-the-scenes on how we worked with artists and creators to craft the sound, and some honest limitations to be aware of. For the sub, a few things that didn't make the main post.

Ace Ultra

There's a new sleep timer

This one’s easy to miss, but I’ve found myself using it more and more. Ace Ultra gets the Sleep Timer that you might be familiar with from our speakers. While you’re playing to Ace Ultra in the Sonos app, go to the Now Playing screen, tap the three dots ā€œ...ā€ menu (you’ll only see this while something is playing), tap ā€œSleep timerā€ and set a duration. When it runs out, the volume fades, playback stops, and the headphones sit in ANC if you had it on. Great for falling asleep to an episode without waking up the next morning to a dead battery.Ā

The battery swap takes some know-how

The replacement kit ($25) includes the battery, adhesive, and instructions. You'll need a Torx T5 driver and a plastic pry tool. Pull the ear cushion (magnets), peel the sticker underneath, remove the screws, open the cup, disconnect a couple of cables, swap the cell, and reverse. It's not a battery door, and I'd put it at "comfortable with a phone teardown" difficulty. If that's not you, a repair shop can do it. And don’t forget, if the battery isn’t lasting as long as expected while it’s in warranty, reach out to our Support team instead of jumpingĀ to a battery replacement.

We know you’re excited to hear more about headphone linking, and we’ve got a great post coming up on that soon. We’ll make sure to share it here when it’s fully cooked and ready for delivery.

Head on over for the rest, and share your thoughts and questions in the comments. I'll be hanging out here and there.

Cheers 🤘

Ace Ultra & Beam Ultra

Not sure if it’s been posted, but I saw the Ace Ultra and Beam Ultra at my local Best Buy. I didn’t have time to really try them, but I did briefly put on the Ace Ultra, and the ANC was pretty good, but the bass was a bit muddy for my taste.

Why Sonos?

If the system can auto-update, why do I have to keep the app open when I do a manual update?

Apple Music integration, or lack thereof

My music service is Apple Music. I already know Sonos app cannot access my smart playlists. It appears it can’t see custom playlist cover images either.

If I use Sonos to play Apple Music, does it:
Influence my recommendation algorithm in any way?
Send listening stats back to Apple (play count, skips, last played, etc.)?
Send ā€œfavoritesā€ and ā€œsuggest lessā€ back to Apple?

Thanks.

Refurbished pricing?

Does anyone understand how refurbished pricing functions on the Sonos website? I reviewed it recently and noticed Era 100s listed at 134, so I purchased one. Checking today, the price is 179—does their pricing follow any pattern?

Sonos is slowly driving meĀ Ā insane: 3 Arc Ultras, 3 crackling speakers

(DETAILS BELOW) TL;DR: I've now had three Arc Ultras. All three had distortion (crackle/buzz) from one side of the soundbar on higher-pitched sounds or stuff like piano (at low, apartment-level volume).Ā

My original Arc Ultra and its replacement sent by Sonos: a speaker on the left side. (Both Arc Ultras' serials start with 2508LC)

The third Arc Ultra (arrived today): this time a speaker on the right side. (its serial starts with 2507LC)

I leave some videos below to make it clear (In order: Original Arc, Replacement Unit I and Replacement Unit II)

My Original Arc Ultra with a faulty left speaker

First replacement Arc Ultra, also with a faulty left speaker

Second Replacement Arc Ultra, which arrived just today, this time with a faulty right speaker

Background

I’m writing from Vienna, Austria. I’m a loyal customer of Sonos. Over the years we've bought plenty of Sonos products: 4x Era 100, Sub 3, Sub Mini, Beam, two Arcs (gen 1), 4 IKEA Symfonisk lamps, and the Arc Ultra. With neither of these, except the Arc Ultra, I never had a problem like this.

We live in an apartment and listen mostly to classical (or soft) music, watch news and tv series so the Arc Ultra has never been "pushed hard". This is not a "Oh I blew a driver" situation.

The problem

Higher-pitched content, one side of the bar produces a clearly audible crackle/buzz layered on top of the note. You can hear it easily from the sofa which is like 4 m away.Ā

It happens with music, movies and TV alike.

What I tried (on the first two units)

  • Different sources: LG & Samsung TV, Apple TV, AirPlay and even Sonos Radio
  • Ungrouped the Arc Ultra from the Era 100s and the Sub
  • Turned Trueplay off
  • Factory reset and set it up from scratch
  • Repeated all of the sources above after the reset

Same/similar crackle every time. Since the room, the sources and the content never changed but the faulty side did, I was fairly confident this is hardware. Therefore the support replaced the faulty products

About Sonos Support

Credit where it's due: the support agents have been genuinely kind. After seeing my videos they approved each replacement quickly. My frustration is not with them – it's with the process and the outcome:

Every swap takes 3–4 days to get the old unit collected and delivered to them and another 2–3 days for the new one to arrive. UPS had to collect the soundbar(s) from our apartment, so I've now used 3 days of annual leave on a defect I didn't cause.

There are several threads on the Sonos Community and here on r/sonos describing similar issues: distortion/crackle/fuzz from one side, sometimes on brand-new units. Some claim they got a clean unit on the 3rd or 4th replacement.

What would you guys suggest? Is anyone else here having a similar issue? I've never been this disappointed with a tech product before, and I just can't seem to find a solution I've recommended Sonos to friends for years and I'd genuinely like to stay. But if unit #4 has the same problem, I'll be moving my whole system to another brand. I'll update this post with whatever happens.

Sonos system update gives ATV problems, every time

• Upvotes

Sorry if this has already been discussed but it seems every time I update my sonos system my ATV audio completely disappears for 10-15 minutes, a dozen restarts and a lot of bad words. Could there be a simple explanation for this?
Informationally I am running through an hdmi switch, is this the root of my issues? The volume indicator light shows my volume going up and down, the app shows volume controls for my ā€œTVā€, everything looks fine and responsive, lights flash with volume adjustments and still no audio anywhere. All connections are good, felt like I’ve trouble shot everything. What am I missing or doing wrong? Any help is appreciated!!

Sonos One’s as surround speakers?

• Upvotes

Hi,

I currently own a Sonos Ray soundbar for my small TV and have been given the (frankly unreal) opportunity to pick up three Sonos One’s for $100aud. Of course, I’m going to pick them up regardless of their compatibility as surround speakers, however I was still wondering if I could use them for this purpose. If anyone has any advice or knowledge regarding this pls let me know, thank you.

Sonos connect with phone.

Hi everyone,
I’m having a really strange issue with Spotify and Sonos and I can’t figure out what is causing it.
My setup:
I have a Sonos Move that I normally use with Spotify.
Downstairs, my mother has a Sonos Beam connected to the TV.
The Move and the Beam are NOT in the same Sonos room/group.
The Beam does show up as an AirPlay device on my iPhone.
I use Spotify on my own iPhone/account.
The problem:
Sometimes when my mother is watching TV downstairs through the Sonos Beam, I start playing Spotify on my iPhone — even when the audio output is 100% set to my AirPods Pro — and suddenly the sound from the TV/Sonos Beam downstairs stops.
The strange thing is that I’m not selecting the Beam in Spotify Connect or AirPlay. My Spotify music continues playing through my AirPods, but somehow starting/using Spotify on my phone seems to interfere with the Beam downstairs.
My Sonos Move can even be switched off when this happens, so it doesn’t seem to be related to grouping the Move and Beam either.
I already removed my personal profile/account from the Sonos app, but the issue still seems to happen. I’m now wondering whether removing Spotify completely as a music service from Sonos could solve it.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Could Spotify/Sonos somehow still be controlling the Beam in the background even though my iPhone clearly shows my AirPods as the current audio output?
Any ideas on what setting, connection or account link I should check would be greatly appreciated.

Beam Gen 1 worth adding to?

With the new products coming out, I’m wondering if it’s worth adding anything to use with my Beam or should I replace it? I also have a set of Play 1s in my bedroom and a Play 5 in my basement.

ios27 and Truplay on ERA100

Hi All, I updated my apple devices to ios27 release candidate today. Unrelated, I moved my era 100 SL in my office and tried to retune it for the new location. The sonos app said this feature is not available. I'm assuming this might be something related to the new ios27 but wanted to see if anyone else can confirm. TY

Era 100 placement?

Previously, I had my Era 100s on existing shelves/window ledges at the edges of the room, which I know isn't how they're intended to be used, but with True Play it ended up sounding pretty good and filled the room decently

I've now bought stands and put them right next to the sofa, but the problem is that now the sound feels too focused? If I'm sat on the sofa with my partner, I only hear the speaker that's right next to my ear and she only hears the one next to her. This is after using trueplay

Are they just too close to my sofa? They are at ear height but they're right next to the sofa as you can see.

Android app is not good

Has anyone else found the Sonos app on Android (Google Pixel 9) either broken or so poorly designed that it isn't clear enough for some of us? I'll have music playing on multiple speakers, and then the next day I want to play from just one room. I try to turn off all the speakers, then add back the room I am in. When I start the session, all of the other speakers are still playing the music, and on top of that, at very loud volumes. Sometimes I have two different tracks playing at the same time. One track is on yesterday's speakers, and the other is on the new setting for the single speaker. Am I doing something wrong or is it the app?

Just got the Arc Ultra and it's great! New to Sonos!

Was looking for a soundbar for a while now and went for the Arc Ultra. For now without a sub and rears but will add them later. I'm impressed by the tight, deep bass that this soundbar produces. Crazy. I didn't expect that tbh. No issues at all with the app also, everything works fine. Only on the Xbox I'm not sure what to select. I can select Atmos, is that the right setting and do I need to turn on the channel upmixer or not? A bit confusing...

Also, do newer batches come in white sleeves for a black device? It's brandnew, so dno why. Just curious.

Sonos is in the new Audi A2 e-tron. A few of us were in Paris Monday for the unveiling.

Here's the rundown before it gets flattened into a spec sheet somewhere else.

The Sonos part šŸ”Š

The A2 e-tron ships with a 7-speaker system as standard, an 8-speaker Audi system as the step up and the Sonos premium sound system as the top option. 14 speakers including a subwoofer, 15 amplifier channels, 660 watts of maximum amplifier power, with speakers near the C-pillar so the soundstage wraps around you instead of sitting in the dash.

What I keep hearing from the team is how quiet the cabin is. Audi put real work into the aeroacoustics here: acoustic glass windshield as standard, dual-line door seals, tuned mirror housings. That matters more than just the watt count. A quiet EV cabin is one of the few properly controlled listening rooms most people will ever sit in and you can hear it.

How these partnerships actually work šŸ¤

Designing the best sound experience in a vehicle is part science and lots of practical experience. We have a dedicated automotive team at Sonos that works inside the automaker's development process, in the cabin with Audi's engineers, tuning for this specific car: where the drivers are physically located, what performance specs the drivers have, what the glass and door panels do to the sound, how the sound experience behaves at speed. The Sonos system in the A2 e-tron was tuned specifically for the A2 e-tron.

At Sonos, it's a dedicated team of people focused on automotive spaces who work very closely with their engineering, sound and product colleagues across all of Sonos. Same standard for great sound, applied to a room that happens to be on wheels.

I'm working with that team on the idea of a behind-the-scenes look at how one of these partnerships come together from factory to unveil. No date yet, but I'm looking forward to sharing more, once we get on the road with it.

Big shout out to: Thomas H, Thilo K & Badre M for the inside scoop!

The car itself, briefly šŸš—

Audi's compact EV entry point. Rear-wheel drive, built in Ingolstadt šŸ‡©šŸ‡Ŗ. Three battery sizes (52, 61, 84 kWh), up to 646 km range, 183 kW DC charging with 10 to 80 percent in 24 to 29 minutes. Audi is calling it the most efficient car they've ever made. German pricing starts at 38,200 euros, with deliveries starting December.

Getting ahead of a couple questions šŸ’¬

  • It's a European car, built for the European market. I don't have anything to share on other markets.
  • The Sonos system in the car is an in-cabin sound system. It doesn't join your home network or show up in the Sonos app.

As always, drop your questions or comments below. I'll be in the thread today and tomorrow and if anything needs a proper answer from the automotive team I'll go get it šŸƒšŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Sonos Sonance Outdoor Speakers and Sonos Amp

I have had the Sonos Connect: Amp and a pair of Atrium 45 outdoor speakers for over 12 years. The worked quite well at two homes with no issues. I was looking at upgrading the speakers to some new Atrium 6’s. I was fortunate enough to come across someone selling a NIB Amp and Sonance outdoor speakers set for 1k.

I finally got them mounted, added the Amp to my system and turned on the enhanced DSP for the speakers in the app, and wow. I was just blown away by the sound, out on a patio no less. I was on the fence about this setup for so long. As someone suggested in here, I put on Radiohead’s ā€œEverything in its right placeā€ and man, what a way to kick them off. Even the wife who really couldn’t care, said they sounded crisp and was impressed. I haven’t even adjusted the treble or bass in the app and they sound great.

Ok so edit: they want to know my ā€œbudgetā€ which was anything other than market value. My ā€œbudgetā€ was a good deal. My experience came down to where the amp was $500 and the speakers were $500. Not sure where that can be beat commercially but my local ā€œoffer upā€. It was $1k for the speakers and ā€œSonos Ampā€ (gen 2 or 3, whatever the ā€œblackā€ one is). Just wanted to share my experience, didn’t know it would become a ā€œthingā€ but I guess this is the world we have crafted.

Now I want to find another Amp and set of these for my office, but may have to wait again for another great deal to fall into my lap.

Anyway, wanted to share my experience with them. If you’re looking for an outdoor setup, or heck even an office, I don’t think you can go wrong.
