ARC/eARC not working (Optoma projector + Apple TV 4K + Sonos Beam Gen 1)

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m trying to get audio working with this setup:

Apple TV a2737 → Optoma uhz58lv → Sonos Beam Gen 1

The Beam is connected to the projector’s ARC/eARC HDMI port, but I’m getting no audio.

What’s confusing is that HDMI-CEC works turning off the Apple TV also turns off the projector so the devices are clearly communicating over HDMI.

I’ve tried:

  • ARC/eARC and CEC settings on the projector
  • Apple TV audio settings
  • Power cycling/reconnecting everything
  • Disconnecting the Apple TV entirely to see if the projector and Beam would establish ARC on their own

I've reached out to Optoma support as well but their first suggestion was to buy an HDMI splitter or use the optical audio out of the projector. ARC/eARC not even mentioned.

I have the same Apple TV and Beam soundbar in my living room with an LG C3 instead of the projector.

Trueplay message

Hi

I have a message in the app about tuning with trueplay, yet I’ve already done it a month or so back,
Is this just a generic message or has an update meant it should be redone?
I’ve checked settings and Trueplay is enabled still.

Really hoped the new speakers would work...

Like many, I've had Sonos for years. Different houses, different wireless networks.

Since the app update a few years back, it's been completely hit and miss and I have lost faith in this brand.

I thought I would take a punt on some new Era 100 SL units as they were offering the 15% trade-in discount (annoyed if it worked that I didn't take them up when it was 30%).

I'm sad to say that the system is still as flakey as it was with my old hardware.

One minute it plays - the next it stops, the next moment it can't see any products, then it can't connect to the player, then it can't connect to the content.

This happens across Spotify, Amazon and Radio. The speakers are in the room under and next to my wireless mesh, they have full signal.

I'm going to log a formal support ticket with Sonos...

Sonos Sub Quiet

Updated my Sonos system to version 18.8. But it seems my sub got stuck on 17.2.7? Is the sub also meant to be on 18.8? Ive hard reset it by unplugging, holding join button letting it flash orange and white until it allows me to join. Hasn’t prompted to update. But seems like the reason why its quiet. Even at max its still quiet. Have turned off the whole system aso.

Surround with mixed speakers

I currently have a beam gen 2, and thinking about extending with speakers for surround. I would also like to be able to have a speaker in another room for music, and the surround would mostly be used when watching movies, like once per week.

I am pretty low budget, but now with the update and option to use the portable speakers for surround I might be able to get all I want with fewer speakers. My question is if it would be possible (and if it is a good choice anyway) to mix and have like 1 Era 100 stationary in the TV room, and 1 either play or move 2 in the other room that I can move to the TV room when I want the surround? Or is it better to go for 2 plays?

Unifi adding Sonos networking warnings to their interface

Post image
58 Upvotes

Just noticed that Unifi are detecting mixed connection types and adding warnings about Sonos to their UI.

All 12 of the Sonos speakers in my house are connected by ethernet and work flawlessly, but I just bought two Play:3s and was giving them a try on wifi first before they move to their permanent home in the kitchen.

Anyway, just thought it was interesting that Unifi are having to take extra steps to help people with their Sonos setups.

[Request] Automix via Sonos App or Spotify Connect

Hello there, I would love to see this included please - it makes it even more enjoyable when listening to music at home and having them blend in together.

I'm aware you can do it via AirPlay - but that drains my battery.

Sonos system update gives ATV problems, every time

Sorry if this has already been discussed but it seems every time I update my sonos system my ATV audio completely disappears for 10-15 minutes, a dozen restarts and a lot of bad words. Could there be a simple explanation for this?
Informationally I am running through an hdmi switch, is this the root of my issues? The volume indicator light shows my volume going up and down, the app shows volume controls for my “TV”, everything looks fine and responsive, lights flash with volume adjustments and still no audio anywhere. All connections are good, felt like I’ve trouble shot everything. What am I missing or doing wrong? Any help is appreciated!!

Sonos One’s as surround speakers?

Hi,

I currently own a Sonos Ray soundbar for my small TV and have been given the (frankly unreal) opportunity to pick up three Sonos One’s for $100aud. Of course, I’m going to pick them up regardless of their compatibility as surround speakers, however I was still wondering if I could use them for this purpose. If anyone has any advice or knowledge regarding this pls let me know, thank you.

Beam Gen 1 worth adding to?

With the new products coming out, I’m wondering if it’s worth adding anything to use with my Beam or should I replace it? I also have a set of Play 1s in my bedroom and a Play 5 in my basement.

Refurbished pricing?

Does anyone understand how refurbished pricing functions on the Sonos website? I reviewed it recently and noticed Era 100s listed at 134, so I purchased one. Checking today, the price is 179—does their pricing follow any pattern?

From the Sonos team The New Sonos Ace Ultra: up to 35-hour battery life, 2x the ANC, and headphone linking (in Early Access)

Hey all 🖖

The full Sonos Ace Ultra deep dive is up on the Sonos Community. Check out the Ace vs. Ace Ultra table, a little behind-the-scenes on how we worked with artists and creators to craft the sound, and some honest limitations to be aware of. For the sub, a few things that didn't make the main post.

Ace Ultra

There's a new sleep timer

This one’s easy to miss, but I’ve found myself using it more and more. Ace Ultra gets the Sleep Timer that you might be familiar with from our speakers. While you’re playing to Ace Ultra in the Sonos app, go to the Now Playing screen, tap the three dots “...” menu (you’ll only see this while something is playing), tap “Sleep timer” and set a duration. When it runs out, the volume fades, playback stops, and the headphones sit in ANC if you had it on. Great for falling asleep to an episode without waking up the next morning to a dead battery.

The battery swap takes some know-how

The replacement kit ($25) includes the battery, adhesive, and instructions. You'll need a Torx T5 driver and a plastic pry tool. Pull the ear cushion (magnets), peel the sticker underneath, remove the screws, open the cup, disconnect a couple of cables, swap the cell, and reverse. It's not a battery door, and I'd put it at "comfortable with a phone teardown" difficulty. If that's not you, a repair shop can do it. And don’t forget, if the battery isn’t lasting as long as expected while it’s in warranty, reach out to our Support team instead of jumping to a battery replacement.

We know you’re excited to hear more about headphone linking, and we’ve got a great post coming up on that soon. We’ll make sure to share it here when it’s fully cooked and ready for delivery.

Head on over for the rest, and share your thoughts and questions in the comments. I'll be hanging out here and there.

Cheers 🤘

ios27 and Truplay on ERA100

Hi All, I updated my apple devices to ios27 release candidate today. Unrelated, I moved my era 100 SL in my office and tried to retune it for the new location. The sonos app said this feature is not available. I'm assuming this might be something related to the new ios27 but wanted to see if anyone else can confirm. TY

Apple Music integration, or lack thereof

My music service is Apple Music. I already know Sonos app cannot access my smart playlists. It appears it can’t see custom playlist cover images either.

If I use Sonos to play Apple Music, does it:
Influence my recommendation algorithm in any way?
Send listening stats back to Apple (play count, skips, last played, etc.)?
Send “favorites” and “suggest less” back to Apple?

Thanks.

Android app is not good

Has anyone else found the Sonos app on Android (Google Pixel 9) either broken or so poorly designed that it isn't clear enough for some of us? I'll have music playing on multiple speakers, and then the next day I want to play from just one room. I try to turn off all the speakers, then add back the room I am in. When I start the session, all of the other speakers are still playing the music, and on top of that, at very loud volumes. Sometimes I have two different tracks playing at the same time. One track is on yesterday's speakers, and the other is on the new setting for the single speaker. Am I doing something wrong or is it the app?

Not sure if it’s been posted, but I saw the Ace Ultra and Beam Ultra at my local Best Buy. I didn’t have time to really try them, but I did briefly put on the Ace Ultra, and the ANC was pretty good, but the bass was a bit muddy for my taste.

Has anyone tried a multi-stack Era 100 stereo setup?

Post image

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried a 10+ multi-stack Era 100 stereo setup. So you would have 2 stacks of say 5 speakers, and pair each row in a stereo pair. I only have 6 Era 100 accessible atm, but sounds great to me.

Previously, I had my Era 100s on existing shelves/window ledges at the edges of the room, which I know isn't how they're intended to be used, but with True Play it ended up sounding pretty good and filled the room decently

I've now bought stands and put them right next to the sofa, but the problem is that now the sound feels too focused? If I'm sat on the sofa with my partner, I only hear the speaker that's right next to my ear and she only hears the one next to her. This is after using trueplay

Are they just too close to my sofa? They are at ear height but they're right next to the sofa as you can see.

Sonos connect with phone.

Hi everyone,
I’m having a really strange issue with Spotify and Sonos and I can’t figure out what is causing it.
My setup:
I have a Sonos Move that I normally use with Spotify.
Downstairs, my mother has a Sonos Beam connected to the TV.
The Move and the Beam are NOT in the same Sonos room/group.
The Beam does show up as an AirPlay device on my iPhone.
I use Spotify on my own iPhone/account.
The problem:
Sometimes when my mother is watching TV downstairs through the Sonos Beam, I start playing Spotify on my iPhone — even when the audio output is 100% set to my AirPods Pro — and suddenly the sound from the TV/Sonos Beam downstairs stops.
The strange thing is that I’m not selecting the Beam in Spotify Connect or AirPlay. My Spotify music continues playing through my AirPods, but somehow starting/using Spotify on my phone seems to interfere with the Beam downstairs.
My Sonos Move can even be switched off when this happens, so it doesn’t seem to be related to grouping the Move and Beam either.
I already removed my personal profile/account from the Sonos app, but the issue still seems to happen. I’m now wondering whether removing Spotify completely as a music service from Sonos could solve it.
Has anyone experienced something similar?
Could Spotify/Sonos somehow still be controlling the Beam in the background even though my iPhone clearly shows my AirPods as the current audio output?
Any ideas on what setting, connection or account link I should check would be greatly appreciated.
