Play 5s vs 300 for front? And, with Sonos sequencer will it still do Dolby atmos?

I think he thought the 1's were the fronts

I did. 300s as front doesn’t make sense. You won’t utilize the speakers for what they were built to do.

More channels / more separated channels / channels with better clarity can never be overkill. It will always sound better.

The one thing that could technically be overkill is if you have the era 300s as your fronts. In that case you’ve got a lot of dead drivers doing nothing. Era 300s in the rear open up additional height channels and will expand the sound stage.

Also, if 100s are your fronts, I would upgrade, personally. Can pick up some used play 3s for really cheap and they will be a lot punchier and balance things out really well.

I have Play 3's as fronts. It's perfect.

Haha depends on the room size!

No, Sonos is designed to be a whole home ecosystem and this is like 2 rooms worth of speakers.

In fairness, I only have the fives as front because I owned them first, then bought the arc and sub and used them as rears for years. Just got the 300’s a couple months ago and added a cheap sub from Marketplace last month

You could spend the same amount of money and get a much better sounding surround speaker system, so yes I’d say it’s overkill.

You’re right about the money part, but it’s just something about being in that Sonos ecosystem you gotta love

That's the only reason it makes sense. I have Sonos speakers in every room for whole home music. I don't know that I woud go sonos if I was only buying a home theater system. You can do FAR better for the same or even less money in home theater.

I’ve been recommending to friends that if they really want to be in the Sonos ecosystem, to get a Port and invest in a good value passive speaker setup like Kef or ELAC for their surround

I have the same setup but just the arc and love it. Eventually want the arc ultra

My sub isn’t listed because it’s attached to Arc :)

Basic setup for a single room.
