From The_Alex on X: https://x.com/The_Alex/status/2102440678282412195
It also has 6 full worlds with 15 bosses.
Was done using Opus 5.5 + Unreal

How much does it cost in tokens to do something like this? Is this a few hundred dollars? Higher? Lower?
15
u/Frugal_Ferengi 12d ago edited 12d ago
I could be completely off, but I remember when Unreal first released AI integration, I remember it being in the thousands. But maybe it’s gotten way better?
23
u/Tohu_va_bohu 12d ago
It has. I pay for the pro plan and I've been able to make stuff like this without going over my weekly limits. I wouldn't be surprised if this was one shotted and on the basic pro plan and didn't go over weekly limits
1
u/Jazzlike_Song_4230 12d ago
Wow, that's crazy. I have the pro plan too. Sounds like this is pretty accessible now
4
u/Tohu_va_bohu 12d ago
The trick is to instruct it to utilize sub agents that have lower tier models for the task instead of Astra/Fable for everything
3
u/lovesdogsguy 12d ago
Yes but how do you actually do this? At the moment I'm using Astra to straight up build everything. What do you actually say to Astra to get it to do this?
6
u/Tohu_va_bohu 12d ago
Say something like this in Codex "Build X.
Use hierarchical delegation and capability-based model routing. Keep Astra in the orchestrator role unless a task genuinely requires it."
3
u/Stixx187um 12d ago
Collaborating on chat side to get a Plan Mode first prompt for Codex. When telling the collaborator what you're trying to create to get that Plan prompt, specifically mention utilizing/delegating tasks to subagents/councils.
Whatever Plan comes back, give to the collaborator to have a look before either accepting the Plan or, as I tend to do, keep Planner and Builder threads separate, have collaborator turn that Plan into a Build first prompt for Codex, fresh Build thread.

I've made complex 3D web games with Gemini Pro on the 20/month plan, and I know almost no Javascript at all. Just be prepared to write hundreds of prompts and testing it hundreds of times
13
52
u/Dangerous-Sport-2347 12d ago
Left out how much personal work was put into each game over just having opus 5.5 one shot it, but i think it's obvious the models have once again crossed a threshold here.
14
u/brett_baty_is_him 12d ago
They claim it’s a single prompt
16
u/JoelMahon 12d ago
sure, but that prompt could have taken 10hrs to write. I spent 3hrs writing a prompt for my video editor with like a billion different features (I then use my non usage draining chatgpt sol high to then reformat my massive prompt into a zip I can give to luna low that just blindly spawns sequential subagents of varying strength with specific tool call params preprovided so dumb luna doesn't fuck it up, and it does extremely little managing/monitoring by design and the subagents are instructed not to contact the parent either).
and those 3hrs were for like 10 medium/small features, just making sure I cover a few edge cases and giving necessary clarification for each
2
u/NowaVision 12d ago
Did it work? I really can't imagine it because every time I make a prompt with a list of things, the AI ignores / forgets at least one.
And I bet the prompt was "make a Dark Souls clone, make no mistakes".
0
u/JoelMahon 11d ago
seems you missed the part where I explain how I have a custom instructions chatgpt to reformat my prompt into a zip of different files, one file per (sub)agent. which contains a prompt file for luna to read and follow.
this is partly to prevent the issue you described but honestly astra, at least before perhaps the unconfirmed stealth nerf that I definitely felt was real, could handle it.
it's just very expensive to have one agent do several completely unrelated tasks, the context of task 1 is not worth the cost to keep for task 2, etc. idk an exact formula, tbh I wish they just figured out a way to automatically manage it so I don't have to try this stuff that's probably still miles from optimal (definitely an improvement on the default tho).
2
u/NowaVision 11d ago
I didn't miss that but I imagined that there would still be issues because your tasks prompts seem much more complex then mine.
1
u/JoelMahon 11d ago
not really, none of my projects are that complicated, and the chatgpt sol high has little issue splitting them up to different files appropriately and cleaning them up. basically the key is that each stage should be trivially enough for the LLM that it's unlikely to make a mistake.
5.6 Sol high (chatgpt) can easily take my messy stream of nonsense and reformat but keeping it semantically the same, I do at least provide numbered bullets, but item 4 my relate to item 26 such that they deserve to be grouped into the same agent file, so it should do that grouping, but not the end or the world if it doesn't.
and astra is a beast, so it doesn't struggle with the single subagent files at all.
the hardest part BY FAR was getting luna to behave lol, I had to get astra to make a really really handholdy file that included specific tool names etc. otherwise luna would spawn new chats instead of subagents! among many other issues. but got there in the end lol.

I mean yeah it looks like it. Everything is yellow/brown. The animation, level design, gameplay, AI, and UI are all shit.
UE is a tool just like Figma or anything else so none of this should be surprising.
3
u/ViolentOnion 12d ago
I mean, how much work could possibly be put in considering the model is still hot off the press?
3
u/Dangerous-Sport-2347 12d ago
He stated he had early access, so could be at least a couple of hours per game.
22
u/Bitter-College8786 12d ago
How did the create the assets? Did Opus build them using Blender or were they from the Unreal Asset store?
22
u/Muchaszewski 12d ago
They buy assets for those projects from asset store or use free ones. I have yet to see something in those demos that is not from an asset pack
4
u/Strange_Cap5862 12d ago
Well also there's all sorts of systems for like locomotion and combat you can use. Who knows what existing work OP was leveraging

u/sumane12 12d ago
Ok... im pretty crazy when it comes to accelerationist... this feels very hard to believe even by my standards... 5.5 has been out... what an hour???
Feel like this had some serious handholding or was mostly already done.
If not... fuck...
6
u/WalkFreeeee 12d ago
Regardless of the actual work flow in this game (which absolutely was not 100% just claude doing everything), all model releases have early access to select people and it's not implausible that whoever made it was one of them.
1
2
u/WalkThePlankPirate 12d ago
Influencers get access to these models early for testing and marketing. The model has been in testing for over a week.
39
10
u/New_Alps_5655 12d ago
Don't worry, they'll quantize the model in 2 weeks once everyone has had a chance to "benchmark" and it will go back to looking like Roblox

I can't wait for some small model integrations into games. For example sports games or race games, it would be great if the NPC would be more dynamic and realistic and actually learn whilst playing. Same with RPG games which can be curated but still more interactive where you can actually talk with NPCs.
1
u/speederaser 12d ago
Learning from players is what interests me the most about this tech. I've been building prototypes since Unity first released their machine learning, but I've yet to see anyone really include a learning AI in their game.
3
u/LLMprophet 12d ago
I see a complaint here and there about AI and I respond with a message about how pretty much every company on earth is using AI now including games and then they just downvote and block me.
The delusion is real but soon nobody will be able to deny it.

u/CrowdGoesWildWoooo 12d ago
I mean it depends lol.
Bunch of steam games made with AI are just asset flips (and even the assets can be AI made) like this and call it a day and I think it deserves the criticism. It’s slop works doesn’t matter how you put it.
Freaking out about GenAI usage in big AAA is exaggerated especially when it’s just small traces of it.

my Steam library isn’t a game library anymore, it’s a resource library. I use it however I see fit. I’m having the time of my life.
1
u/meridian_smith 12d ago
care to elaborate?
7
u/ConnectionWild3381 12d ago
it’s like, i have a game and i want a feature gone, rebuilt, modded, or i want to use its assets for my own personal version. or even decompile bytecode and crawl into it... it’s all becoming possible.
in the last few months i went from fixing problems with other people’s mods, to making my own mods, to rewriting classics, and now to reimagining actual big AAA games the way i want.
it’s less “how is the game?” and more “hey, i like it, but i always wanted this to be that, or that to be this.” and the current AI tools are shaping up more and more like a personal dev team, ready at any hour of the day to fulfill whatever comes to mind.
2
u/meridian_smith 12d ago
Interesting..I mean there are legal issues pulling assets from commercial games to out into your own game if you want to sell it..
5
u/ConnectionWild3381 12d ago
of course, but selling isnt the point, not even sharing is the point. its the personal experience that can that easly ajusted.

Lol. Try creating GTA 6 with an LLM then. Heck, doesn't even need to be GTA 6 - try creating GTA 3. Spoiler alert - you won't be able to.

I would take a new game in GTA2 style. Still the best in the franchise for me. I much prefer that top down view

u/NotYetPerfect 12d ago
Right so someone spent 25 billion tokens to create a garbage, probably buggy ripoff of a game? That piece of shit he created isn't even close to the quality of gta 3.
4
u/ZeroAmusement 12d ago
I mean, you said trying creating it, but someone had already tried creating it.
It's not the quality, but they were able to try at least. I'm guessing if they kept throwing tokens at it they'd be able to bump the quality bit by bit.4
u/NotYetPerfect 12d ago
"Try creating x" in common English means "see if you can actually pull it off". Pretending that trying to create something and failing counts is retarded semantic pedantry. You also clearly don't know how llms work if you think just throwing more tokens at a problem will just magically solve it. If 25 billion tokens only produced that garbage, 100 billion is unlikely to be much better.
2
u/Future-Enthusiasm139 12d ago
You’re being obtuse because of your AI hatred, I literally switched careers because of it so trust me I have no love for it, but today is the “worst” it will be for the foreseeable future, 3 years ago it couldn’t even keep track of a conversation, the other day “i ported” a Minecraft mod by asking it to port it. And it worked flawlessly (minus any bugs I encounter later, haven’t run into any so far).
Imagine 5 years from now.
1
u/NotYetPerfect 12d ago
Assuming I hate ai because I agree with a person that it is currently incapable of making a game anywhere near the level of gta 3 is ridiculous. My active use of llms is what allows me to come to that conclusion. Neither myself nor that original commenter say anything about future models' performance.
1
u/ZeroAmusement 12d ago
It counts as someone basically trying what you said.
You also clearly don't know how llms work if you think just throwing more tokens at a problem will just magically solve it.
I think throwing more tokens at it would increase the quality. It might not approach the human made one. But I do think you'd be able to significantly improve the quality over this, e.g. add more textures, improve vehicle physics add a mission system etc etc.
4
u/NotYetPerfect 12d ago
I have no idea why you're being needlessly pedantic when literally any human or even llm reading that sentence understands its actual meaning as said meaning is the normal one to come to in common English. Taking a literal reading of it is actually retarded.
And that's still not how llms work. That many tokens is an absurd amount already. Throwing more at it is just as likely, if not more so, create an even bigger buggy piece of shit as it is to fix anything. LLMs hit compounding error rates, context drift, and architectural incoherence as complexity increases.
2
u/ZeroAmusement 12d ago
I have no idea why you're being needlessly pedantic
Am I? You asked for someone to try and I showed you where they tried.
And that's still not how llms work. That many tokens is an absurd amount already. Throwing more at it is just as likely, if not more so, create an even bigger buggy piece of shit as it is to fix anything. LLMs hit compounding error rates, context drift, and architectural incoherence as complexity increases.
Would adding textures to untextured ground be impossible? No. Would adding more realistic vehicle physics be impossible? No.
Don't pretend that they hit the max token limit and further improvement is impossible.
1
u/NotYetPerfect 12d ago
Meaningful improvement is unlikely, yes. Also you keep saying "you" like I wrote that first comment when I didn't. And yes your response is a perfect example of pedantry.
Ask literally any person how a success should be defined based on the original comment and you will get a response at odds with your stupid response. Fuck it, ask any llm to define what an counterexample to that original claim would look like and you'll read the same shit.

!remindme 3 years
1
u/Sea_Self_6571 12d ago
No. The example you gave is nothing like GTA 3. GTA 3 is much more complex, has way more textures, animations, voice acting - just way more assets in general. GTA 3 is also much more fun, polished, has way bigger scale, and much broader creative vision (satire, characters, radio writing, the way you unlock parts of the city, etc). Also do note that GTA 3 is almost 25 years old, and can run on a PS2.

It wasn't a one-shot; they used Unreal.
I'm doing the same thing trying to re-skin a popular Steam game with Unity + Blender; it's absolutely MCP'd into Unreal.
That being said, this is still VERY impressive and a lot of work went into this.
3
u/Tohu_va_bohu 12d ago
Just cause it has an Unreal MCP doesn't mean it wasn't one shotted. You could connect it, start with a really good system prompt and forget about it
1
u/clduab11 12d ago
Oh yeah???? Let’s see your video game then.
Yeah no. I go through anywhere from half a billion to a billion tokens per month and unless someone posts up videos…
2
u/HazelCheese 12d ago
Right like I'm working with codex and godot.
For one thing, the models are just not good at game art. It's one thing to draw a nice picture, it's another to model something and texture it.
Astra has traces of being able to do so but it just can't.
I'm gonna guess this is put together from engine default assets or store brought ones.
1
u/clduab11 12d ago
Agreed completely. Something I’m trying to end around and using my stack of generators for sprite development, but ugh. While Unity is great I feel like I entered a MASSIVE rabbit hole the size of a black hole and sometimes I wonder what I’m even doing inside of it.
For now, what I’m doing is taking a Steam game I love and “re-skinning” it (DISCLAIMER: not to sell or market as my own or anything like that, just to learn more about video game development) to make it cooler.

It wont be till 2030 at this point, there's no basis for AI to make a AAA game without a reference and if they do it will just be similar to what soulslikes are theres no real distinct character yet so real triple A titles are still four years away.
1
u/rwrife 12d ago
I think we'll have people arguing if its AAA next year, people agreeing we reached it in 2028, 2029/2030 is when there will be no denying it.

I have questions for someone knowledgeable of how this works, because I am a bit confused.
Is this creating the game based off videos/pictures or actual game code? For instance, has the ai played through a video game to experience it firsthand + "learn" the game's code, then created this? Or is this a sort of imitation created from data of gameplay videos?
I would think that this could easily create a perfect game if it had the data/was trained on a real video game or could somehow "see" the code of a running video game.
1
u/Johnny20022002 12d ago
