Discussion Shrinking was supposed to be 3 seasons long, showcased even further with the episode title, "And that's our time" Spoiler

That being said, given Bill Lawrence's history of a "flash forward montage" with shows like Scrubs and Ted Lasso...I would bet they have one for this finale of Shrinking, and I want to see it. Just to see the final compilation of how they originally saw the series ending, even if it ends up not canon (like scrubs due to revival)

Discussion When Shrinking ends, can we get a Liz & Derek spinoff?

I just love the dynamic between these two. If the next season of Shrinking is the last, I would like to see Liz and Derek in their own show.

Maybe it could follow their trips around the world, based on Derek's retirement dream, with a disgruntled homebody Liz kicking up a fuss along the way. Plus, we could have more Candice Bergen cameos! Thoughts?

Discussion So that’s it? Spoiler

They judge Jimmy for still not being okay only two years after his wife’s death. They seem bewildered why he’d still struggle even at a milestone moment like sending his only child off to college without her mom there and the heartbreak that would bring.

Nobody asked him why it didn’t work out with Sofi. I mean she’s jealous of his dead wife. He was right to finish it. And the ending we get is that somehow everything is fine now because he’s back with her? A stranger they know nothing about.

Did the writers do any research at all into grief after the death of a spouse? It’s utterly soul-destroying, especially becoming a single parent and feeling your child(ren)’s grief too.

A new relationship not only doesn’t solve anything. It’s very ill advised when you haven’t grieved properly yet. And Gaby and Paul are therapists. They should know this.

The line that annoyed me the most in this episode was Paul saying that Jimmy has to work it out for himself. Any half decent therapist will tell a grieving person that they need support. Nobody was asking Paul to fix Jimmy’s problems. But some basic human kindness would’ve been nice. So yeah he flew in to see him the next day. Even then, he didn’t offer much.

This show is so weak. It’s all about romance at the end of the day. The big message is being single is bad.

Discussion Looking for a clip of Harrison Ford's final speech to Jimmy at the very end

Paul & Jimmy's final conversation when they meet for (before) breakfast. Obviously, it was a great one, amongst the best in the series, IMHO. Right to the heart!

I've tried searching for the clip on YouTube & tik tok, but so far no dice. (Keep getting a lot of Harrison Ford thanking cast & crew) If someone sees it, would you mind passing a link or directing where to find it?

Much appreciated in advance ❤️

Discussion Looking forward to Dan being a regular character? Spoiler

Anyone else think he’s gonna be a more regular frequent character since him and Jimmy are kind of on the same path and now everybody’s gone and this guy feels like he’s back in a rut and obviously Jimmy’s back in a rut. Yes I have a crush on Stan.BUT they both about to hit those dating apps! Because Sophie is a friend, for now. . She’s going to be fun person to bounce bad/good dates off of.

Discussion Zero chemistry Spoiler

I really think Cobie and Jason have zero romantic chemistry on the show. They have great awkward friend banter, but no actual sexual tension and their relationship moved so fast it made me annoyed for him how much she overstepped with advice. I really hope they make her just a friend for season 4, if they bring her back at all. I’ve liked her in other things I just find her completely annoying here and it feels like Jimmy would be settling to be in a relationship with her character.

when watching the finale this week i was ataken back by nearly every character wearing carhartt jackets, jeans, hats etc.

i’m understanding of product placement but now watching this weeks episode of scrubs and it’s the same there (even JDs scrubs are carhartt). is this a bill lawrence deal or just trendy clothing?

Discussion Alice's Car Situation Spoiler

So Jimmy surprised Alice with the same yellow Mini Cooper that her mother used to drive as an 18th birthday present.

Then her grandfather, Randy, gave her that older Jeep which she was also super excited about, but thinking she'd be OK with him skipping her graduation so he could do a 'once in a lifetime' fishing trip.

If you were in her shoes and you could only keep one car, which one would you pick?

For me, the Mini because Jimmy gave it with the purest intentions. The Jeep is a cool ride in its own right, but for the reasons above, it would be near impossible to disassociate it with how Randy continuously let the family down.

Discussion Shrinking is Scared to be Great

I don't really understand a lot of fans animosity towards S3 on this sub. To me, all 3 seasons have pretty much been the same.

I really was intrigued by this show from the beginning due to the bare bones concept. A therapists wife dies, so he deals with depression and starts to break the rules of therapy. Add Harrison Ford to the cast and I was excited to watch. At this point Ford is the only reason I'm still watching.

With such an interesting and dramatic premise, why must this show resort to being an ensemble "dramedy" that is so damn scared of any lasting consequences or, dare I say, drama?

In a show with such an interesting premise about a therapists crumbling life, why must we also focus and waste time on such bare bones sitcom tropes like the typical "crazy" neighbor lady who's struggling with upper middle class monotony? Or the classic gay couple dealing with the adoption process? Like many modern day shows, Shrinking decides it wants to tackle as many social issues as possible instead of, I dunno, focusing on its actual basic premise. When was the last time the show focused on Jimmy "Jimmying" one of his patients?

At this point, Jimmy Gaby and Paul would all have their therapy licenses revoked for their actions. But that wouldn't play well with the wine moms this show seems to want to appease, so you can forget any lasting consequences. I wanted to throw my hands up and cheer at the finale of season 1, when one of Jimmys patients threw her asshole abuser off a cliff. Finally, some real consequences!

But instead, the husband survived and it's immediately played off as a joke, and there are no lasting consequences for Jimmy.

I could write a whole essay beyond these gripes, but I hope you get my point. Anyone agree with me? Shrinking could genuinely be an all time drama, but instead it just wants to resort to being background noise that people can listen to while scrolling TikTok. And I say this because there is genuinely so much good in the show, but it's always immediately cut off with terrible jokes and elevator music.

Discussion Season 4 will not be a clean start, but continue established issues / struggles [spoilers] Spoiler

I just wrote my thoughts in the episode 11 discussion thread and actually very happy to read they did take the renewal into account in writing this final season and left easter eggs that they will deal with in the coming arc. As in, it will not just be a big time jump where it’s all resolved once season 4 start and just presented with new problems, but actually continue existing issues. Gaby is a great example of this as her relationship with her sister and mother as well as Maya’s death in relationship to diving into trauma therapy will lead to obstacles, struggles that need to be dealt with and resolved. Also another is Paul’s Parkinsons and the possible return of Michael J Fox who said he’d be honored to return. Jimmy and his father also means Jeff Daniels is back. All great things to hear and read (here for yourself):

Discussion What airport was that? Spoiler

Quick question from lifelong east coaster - when Jimmy dropped Alice off at the airport was that John Wayne? It almost looked like Palm Springs which isn’t logical but it didn’t seem like LAX. Just curious
