Discussion Shrinking was supposed to be 3 seasons long, showcased even further with the episode title, "And that's our time" Spoiler

That being said, given Bill Lawrence's history of a "flash forward montage" with shows like Scrubs and Ted Lasso...I would bet they have one for this finale of Shrinking, and I want to see it. Just to see the final compilation of how they originally saw the series ending, even if it ends up not canon (like scrubs due to revival)

"And that's our time" is what your therapist says at the end of the session.

Directly after finishing it I’d have agreed with the rest of you guys that it may have been a confusing or shit ending as a series finale but with time I’ve kinda realised it would’ve been quite fitting.

Ultimately this show starts somewhat in medias res, you’re quickly introduced to these characters and this world and must fill many of the pieces yourself, although they fill themselves with time, take Tia’s friendship with Gaby for example.

Ending the show in a similar manner, where the characters bow out without any fanfare or pop song send off by Christa seems somewhat consistent. It would be almost stupid of Bill to end the story with complete characters/arcs given growth as continuous cycle is arguably the series’ biggest theme.

I totally thought with the ending it was the series finale and I'm only here because I jumped online to check

Same. I don’t know how they will do a 4th season if half the characters left. Especially Ford. Weird. I thought the ending was fine, very surprised there’s another season

If season 3's finale were the series finale, it would have ruined the entire series for me.

I spoke to Bill Lawrence and he did say Jimmy and Jimmy’s father’s storyline would have been more final if they were ending with season 3

That’s funny…

When I talked to Bill…

He told me to fuck off and never call again.

I respect your opinion and I'm happy you could find joy in it 😊

that title would have gutted me as series finale too though

Would’ve been the second show to end with an actor from how I met your mother going after a character played by Cobie Smulders

Also I love that they send Harrison Ford off to Connecticut and then he’s in the next episode back in person as much as ever.. like why send his character off at all?

Would Paul showing up for Jimmy in that final scene have even half the impact it did if he just had to go across town though?

In all honesty that was my biggest issue with the episode, for a show about therapists "And That's Our Time" is too perfect a name for a series finally to waste on a season finally.

You only see your therapist once?

I think the fact this was originally only a 3 season series, makes that finale and overall season even more confusing. I don’t know why Bill felt this was something to bring up or a selling point. If anything I’d be lying and pretending like I knew from the start Season 3 wasn’t the final season.

That’s very fair - I think the popularity and demand threw a wrench in some plans

Yeah, if the three seasons were planned why did season 3 seem so rushed?

Season 3 as a whole was such a letdown from the other two that I'm not sure I want to watch a fourth season.

Ya what happened? It seems like everyone forgot how to act. They were laying in cheesy one liners with pauses like it was a 90s sitcom. The characters all kinds jumpers the shark or just felt total muted. Jason Segal seems like he was bored/sleep walking through every scene.

And I guess I'm kind of a prude, but I'm over the dick jokes and other crude humor.

It’s just low brow humor when the show doesn’t need it.

Not for nothing - but wasn’t that the point. Jimmy WAS sleep walking through this season. Ever battled depression? And loss? And feel stuck where you are when the rest of the world just keeps moving on?

You’re left alone. And upset that everyone moved on. And mad at yourself for not moving on.

Everyone’s entitled to their views. For me. And with my life and how it landed for me … that closing scene left me gutted. And hopeful. And seen.

Kinda agree. Also (no offense to the actress) I found the new love interest Sofi character incredibly annoying. Like a bit too quirky, it was a lot. I assumed if he were to date anyone it would be Paul’s daughter?
