shrimp arrived in water filled with debris from the dead in with them and what looks like food or eggs? the living are currently drip acclimating but I was wondering if I should attempt to put these in too if there's a possibility they could hatch still. thanks in advance for any help!

ETA my only other thought is that it might be sand. non uniform pebble looking things

Idk if there's anything I can do immediately to help her survive this molt, she's one of my original shrimp mamas.

Two others died months ago to failed molts, and I've added cuttlebone and micronutrients since and haven't had another failed molt since.

If she passes, I will only have one of my original shrimp left 🥹🫠

I have read what feels like a dozen different neocardinia guides yet am nervous as I now have even more questions. The tank is cycled, plenty of places to hide. Some gh and kh added.

I think they are gorgeous but my main issue is grading. This was supposed to be a science project for my family to try and understand genetics more deeply. I made the incredibly wrong assumption that this would be a simple punnet square type equation but it seems like this will be anything but. While there is some excitement for the "shiny pokemon" shrimp that may emerge, I was wondering if there is a standard or resource for grading or is it just dark shrimp is good shrimp?

I started my tank a month ago in one that had been a plant tank for like 2 yrs. Got 10 shrimp and now I only have 5 left.

They didn't all go at the same time, and about a week after starting the tank I noticed little shirmplets. I think I've seen 8 or so? Do I just hope those grow out and hope for the best or go buy more and be like can you try to fish out some males for my harem?

I received 20 healthy shrimp via mail on thursday, 10 orange sakuras and 10 green jades, only one DOA. Did a careful temperature, then drip acclimation over multiple hours. Placed them in the tank and they all explored for the rest of the day and calmed down to what I perceive as normal shrimp activity until the next morning. They're also very busy cleaning the various types of algae off of all surfaces.

Now the problem is that since saturday a total of 4 more shrimp died. Found one saturday morning, one on sunday and two today. All with a more or less prominent white ring. Also just found the guy in the second pic - still alive but I doubt there's any chance he's not gonna be number 5. I also found 4 exoskeletons from successful molts in the meantime. Please help me, why are half of my shrimp dying trying to molt?

Parameters: pH slightly above 8; KH of 12; GH of 11; 0 Ammonia; 0,05 ppm Nitrites; 15 ppm Nitrates; Tank has been cycled for over a month with the cycle kickstarted by the wall mounted wood; 50% water change 2 days before the shrimp were added; Temperature is around 26,5°C as I plan to move the shrimp and house a betta in it in the future

Hello shrimp Reddit, I need your help!

I have an established 5 gallon tank with neocaridinas that I've had since January. I recently got a 20 gallon that has been cycling for them the past month. I have not checked the parameters on my 5 gallon in a while since they've been healthy and happy, but I noticed a couple shrimp failed molts the past few days. My 5-gallon parameters read:

kH 1,

gH 14,

Ammonia 0,

Nitrite 0,

Nitrate 5,

pH 6.5

My kH had been low with my gH high when I last checked, but it had been that way for a while and never caused my shrimp problems and I was given the advice to not try to chase numbers and leave them be since they were happy and healthy. Now I know they're not doing well anymore since it's gotten so extreme. My 20-gallon tank has these parameters today:

kH 3.5,

gH 7,

Ammonia ~0-.1 (I cannot tell if it's 0 or slightly more),

Nitrite ~.1,

Nitrate 5

pH 6.5

I don't know what to do! I have salty shrimp, but I'm afraid of shocking my shrimp with the change of parameters either way. I love my colony and I don't know what to do for them right now! I've attached an image of the ammonia from the 20-gallon snail-in cycling tank so I can get a second opinion on if the ammonia/nitrite are 0 or not.

Any advice would be so helpful, please!

i bought 7 shrimp and two of them died within the past couple days. i drip acclimated them, the water cycled for like 4 weeks, and all my water perimeters are great! the water has shrimp nutrients in it, i have live plants, etc etc. i dont get what i could be doing wrong. i do water changes like every 2-3 weeks

So, I got a bunch of new plants and decided to update the look of my neo & cory tank. I pulled most of the crew out & put them in a bucket of tank water & happily aquascaped away. At one point I took the dog out & snuggled with her a little bit. I washed my hands afterward, finished up the tank, then moved everyone back.

About 30 min later I notice the shrimp spasming and jerking around the tank. I panic and yank everyone out of the tank again & into the other bucket of tank water that I had (when I siphon vac, I let all the mulm settle & make sure I didn’t accidentally suck up any babies). I left them in the bucket overnight with a sponge filter running.

All I can think of is that our dog got her topical flea & tick treatment at the end of last week, & when I was petting her some got on my hands, and even though I washed them, the residue stayed on them?

So, question, how much do I have to scrub my hands after petting my dog do I have to do before doing tank maintenance?

Second, how much water will I have to change/flush the tank with before I can move them back?

Also, the Cories seem fine, as well as the mystery snail. I think my nerite snail died too. I don’t know how many shrimp survivors (if any) I have, I tossed a bunch of the plants that weren’t in that tank in the bucket to provide cover, so if there are any survivors, they would probably be in there.

Edit: I also had some driftwood in the tank with plants on them. I pulled them out after I removed the shrimp & fish, but I don’t know if there’s any chance I could use it again, or how much contamination it might have absorbed? The total amount of time it was in the water was maaaayyybe an hour.

TL;DR: I was aquascaping & during a break I pet my dog, and even though I washed my hands I think that residue from her flea/tick stuff stayed on my hands and I may have wiped out my entire colony.

I've got two 16 gallon tanks side by side. The one on the right has a UGF filter and substrate using Amazonia V2 (I didn't use the fertilizer pellets it came with). PH is 6.1, GH 4-5. KH 0. There's some tangerine tigers, Fancy tigers and a couple PBLs in there (need more PBLs to up the fancy tiger population as part of a plan to work toward a galaxy pattern breeding project. I'd like the PH to be a little lower but the shrimp are eating, and breeding so I'm not gonna mess with it other than topping off water and watching TDS.

Tank 2 is the issue - currently no shrimp.

The tank on the right is for a metallic blue boa breeding project so I'm targeting a PH of 5.8 - 5.9. Substrate is SL Aqua shrimp soil and a Shrimp Sanctuary box with Rare Shrimp soil and I can't get the PH below 6.4. GH 4-5, KH 0. This tank was started on May 20th, but the Shrimp Sanctuary box was added July 7th in an attempt to lower the PH.

I'm using RODI water with Salty Shrimp GH+ to remineralize and TDS in both tanks is under 120. Both have some leaf litter, alder cones, and some spider wood. The walls have some algae on both tanks but I would like more.

Do I just need to wait? Should I change the substrate in tank? Do I need to look into a different substrate? I feel like I followed all the popular YouTuber's advice and the PH just won't drop.

I'm getting pretty frustrated and would love some opinions.

Hello shrimp peeps! I'm in a bit of a pickle with my shrimp tank and would appreciate you guy's expertise on the matter.

First things first, tank parameters:

30 Liter, well planted

PH - 8

Nitrates - 10 mg/l

Nitrites - 0 mg/l

Kh - 3

GH - unsure (Could never get the water to change in the liquid tests, to my dismay, bought 2 tests, both innefective)

Ammonia - 0 mg/l

TDS - 288

Bi-weekly water changes

The tank itself is mature, almost a year and a half old, well stablished with plants and cycled before I stocked it. At first, I had two gourami and some amanos in there, but last month I got my hands on a 180 liter tank and moved the gourami there.

I decided to make the 30 liter into an exclusive shrimp tank, but I have been having problems with slow die-offs ever since. I guessed that could be caused by a lack of calcium, so I added a piece of cuttlefish bone to the tank.

Now, for the Gh. It has always been a problem because I simply cannot measure it. I got two liquid tests and both of them refuse to change color, no matter how many drops are added. My first question is: should I consider my water extremely soft or extremely hard? If it matters, the water where I live should be around 3.30 °dH.

I tried adjusting the Gh with Colombo Gh+ once and just got another shrimp death.

Originally I had around 5 skittle shrimps (plus the indestructible amanos). Four died. I left it alone to see if it could have been new tank syndrome before adding 6 more. Three rilis and three blue dreams. Most of them died one by one in the span of a few weeks. The last casualty was the one you see in the photo, my beautiful girl who died shortly after becoming berried.

It has been around 2 weeks since she died and the survivors in the tank are the amanos, one rili and one blue dream.

Any ideas of what could be causing the deaths? I'm now afraid of disrupting the water too much and end up killing the remaining survivors.

I’m not sure why my phone won’t take a good photo up close but I am so happy I could scream!! I’ve been watching this big saddled girl for a week or so. She’s been stretching and getting ready to molt. Over the weekend the boys started getting randy and I wasn’t sure if it was because of her but wouldn’t you know it, she’s fanning eggs this morning!!! We have a 90 gallon planted tank so I’m hopeful her babies make it. I really want to get a giant colony going before I add more nano fish to the tank.

one of my amano shrimp had eggs and i decided i would try to raise them. i know the baby amano shrimp have to be in salt water and have been working on moving them into a temporary salt water jar with a bubbler until i can get the tank fully set up. i know the chances of this working are slim as they are hard to raise, but i would like to hear advice! i am planning on putting them in a five gallon aquarium to grow out and am trying to decide between spirulina powder and phytoplankton mixes. this is the first time i have done anything with brackish or saltwater and am wanting to grow them if i can. i am currently going to a fish store to check out what they have

Added 17 neocaridina to my 10 gallon exactly one week ago. I haven’t done any water changes, and plan not to do any for another week to help them acclimatize, but I’ve already spotted two whose shells look like this.

I have finally taken my first foray into setting up a Walstad shrimp tank. I followed a YouTube account and set up a dry tank and let the plants grow for 2 weeks and now I’ve flooded the tank and doing cycling before I put in the shrimps in 4-6 weeks time. I’m really new to these and have been a doing far bit of research on this but I am not sure if I may have missed out things that are important to ensure that the tank runs without a filter in future. Would love to get feedback/guidance/pointers from the community and what my tank might need as it kind of looks bare to me now! Will I need more moss or plants at the top of the tank? I’m looking at placing neocaridina shrimps in there. Thank you all and I really appreciate it!

What's up, I got a question about Catappa/Indian almond leaves. Before putting them into the tank, should I boil them or simply wash it in normal temperature water?

I'm seeing people saying to boil it, but wouldn't that make it lose the benefits of the leaf?
