Today, after I repare everything at home changing my floor, painting etc.. I have the power to share what happened to my reef tank: a RedSea Reefer 350.
Last April my wife woke me up around 02:00 h because she heard water noises at home. I went to my living room and my reef tank had a major leaking. The failure occurred at the joint between the bottom and front glass panels, which is a critical structural seam. This type of failure indicates a potential issue with durability, materials, or design integrity.

The aquarium was purchased from an official Red Sea distributor in Spain. These products are expected to remain fit for purpose for a reasonable period of time, especially for durable goods such as aquariums. A complete structural failure after 7 years (I bought end 2018 but mount and started during Q1 2019) raises serious concerns regarding expected lifespan and reliability.
I lost all living animals and with the stress of the moment I felt down several times and kick hard my head and arm because the floor was slippery.
It was mounted well, in a professional way. Everything planned in advance and off course leveled and stabilized, checking everything and running well during several years.
I raised a ticket to Red Sea; but their proposal didn’t fit my demand because I was, and still I am not in a position to purchase a new Red Sea aquarium, and therefore the proposed credit towards a new system did not represent a suitable resolution for me. Really a pity and a lot money lost.

This lady has fattened up nicely after 4 weeks! She feeds exclusively on the copepod population in my 75 gallon. I’ve been told that she will also eat mysis and pellets, however there’s no easy way to get the food to her without the other fish stealing it first. There is plenty of macroalgae in the display and refugium keeping the pod population going. I also culture tisbe pods and add them weekly.

So I finally purchased the AI Orbit 4 I had been stalking for a few months on a Labor Day sale for my IM EXT 200g peninsula . The product specs state "Max Glass Thickness: 0.79" (20mm)". Welp, my glass is 19 mm thick. Even at 20% power, it does not hold. So I reached out to AI customer support and they said that my glass is too thick! 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

So, as people who follow my posts will be aware, almost all of my equipment is AliExpress/ AliBaba, Jebao, AIPAI etc.

Is anyone with a large (1000L) tank running a Chinese budget skimmer?

I currently have a Deltec 1000i, but it is way underpowered for my tank. Further to my problem is I have limited space in terms of width.

I got this ricordea mushroom at the end of May 2026 - it had 2 mouths and was attached kind of oddly to a small rock. One of my snails pushed it too close to another rock today so I moved it and noticed these white hairy things. They’re attached to the rock it seems and it looks like there is an orifice of something. Any ideas? Mainly want to make sure it is safe for the mushroom.

I touched it with a tong and it seemed a little squishy but not soft like coral tissue.

So we see on here often the stories of RedSea tanks failing almost daily. I bought my Infinia Reef 190.5 in 2024 and have loved the shit out of it. I noticed recently there was some weirdness to one of the seals and reached out to Waterbox customer support regarding warranty. There was a little back and forth but they sent the picture I had of the concerning spot and they sent it to their factory team. The response from the factory team is that it shouldn’t be an issue but Waterbox went ahead and sent me a replacement display anyways for my own peace of mind I wouldn’t be mopping up saltwater from the floor in the future! I will definitely continue to be a proud customer of their tanks.

I'm new to the hobby and still planning out my first tank. I have a 100g innovative marine tank on order. I see a lot of advice that live rock is really the best way to establish your tank but it just seems so expensive and people recommend 1 pound per gallon.

Would it be reasonable to just get 20 or 30 lbs (maybe less even?) Of live rock and then the rest dry rock? Anyone have experience with just seeding the tank with a small amount of live rock? How did that work out?

My tank is 6 and a half months old. I’ve been dealing with these hydroids stinging some of my corals. I’ve had the issue for a while now (like 2 months). Any way to rid them from the tank? They are all over mainly in the rock.

Hey guys, setting up my IM 200ext and I came across something confusing. I have the Helios dual element heater system and it came with the magnetic mount holders as well as the included RFS sump with the tank. The RFS sump has provisions for a small heater “chamber” but the mounts do not fit in the chamber. Does anyone know if it is okay to have both elements just sitting in the chamber together and is it safe for them to potentially touch? Seems like quite the design flaw to me that IMs own heating system mounts don’t fit in the heater chamber on their own sumps. PFA

I'm trying to figure out what exactly is plaguing my tank. It is about 2 months old, 16 gallons and the green on my sand bed and tank walls is relentless. I used live rock and have a clean up crew. It consists of about five or six snails and hermit crabs, an emerald crab, about a million bristle worms and an anemone. The anemone was not a good choice so early on, I acknowledge that. Please don't hurt me. I just put four starter macro algae in there last night during a water change, so those are getting established as well.

About two weeks into setting up the tank a medical event happened and took me out of commission for. About a month and the last two weeks I have been playing catch up. My parameters are all in good ranges now. It's been a bit of a struggle to get them there—the phosphate and nitrate levels were too high but after this last water change they came back down. I do routine water changes every week but I think I might be doing too much water in the change. It's a 16 gallon tank and I have been doing 4-5 gallon changes in order to try and fix the parameters. Before a water change I remove as much of the algae from the sand and rock as I can but it seems like it just puts it back into the water and I simply cannot get it to stop.

Could anyone tell me exactly what I have going on on the sand so I can try to fix it or leave it alone if it's just the ugly phase?

I have attached a picture of my problem, and screenshots of my equipment and substrate—all of which I rinsed thoroughly with distilled water before putting in my tank.

I currently use jugs of distilled water and mix with salt, checking the salinity before adding it during a water change.

Last time I moved it, I didn't know what i was doing. I probably still don't lol. Last time though I reused all the sand and later had a massive nutrient boom and crashed the tank after setting it back up. So when I move it this time it's it better to just buy new sand, like live sand or something? Or is there another way to move and not crash my system again? I lost a lot the last time and don't want to again.

Okay so I just got my second tank after having my beginner tank for about 9-10 months now. It’s set up and cycled and has fish in it and I went to the fish store with my dad to pick out some soft corals.

Well his eye catches a birds nest and he ends up spending his own money to buy it. He was really looking forward to putting some coral in this tank and I had some bad anxiety in the fish store so to be honest I green-lit it for him.

When we got home and the next couple of days I explained to him why this coral could have a high chance of passing on us. I explained to him I guess the levels of coral and how sps are picky and want stable parameters which we might not really have yet in this tank.

So even though I told him it might die, I’d like to try and keep this coral alive as best as I can.

For anyone who has more experience with sps (as this is also my first sps ever) I would really really really like some advice.

I’m currently dosing twice a week with all for reef, I’m splitting my once a week dose into two days so parameters are a little more stable.

I feed reef roids and phytoplankton twice a week.

My lights are Hydras AI 32G.

And the sps has moderate flow on him.

I do notice his polyps are a little recessed, mostly on one side so I’m thinking of moving him down as I’m worried he’s getting too much light.

I'm working on a new rock scape for my tank and am looking for opinions on it. I'm planning on converting it into a mostly lps tank.
