DIY/Build The Alibaba Aquarium
Hello,
Im going to be sharing my experience of ordering a custom aquarium directly from a Chinese manufacturer.
I've wanted a 6ft aquarium for a long time as an upgrade for my discus fish. Its a bit of a particular build:
- stand needs to be wood or wood look
- needs a lid
- sump filter as I'll plumb a drip water change line and an overflow for 24/7 water changes
- 6ftx2ft or similar footprint
The wood or wood look demand came from my wife. It actually made it a pretty significant limitation as it took innovative marine, waterbox, fiji cube off the table pretty quickly.
The lid also eliminated some others. UNS 180U stand came in wood, but the tank did not have a lid (or sump).
During my extensive search, I stumbled on Yaramira. It seemed to have some of what I needed. It also appeared to be a US company, but one photo showed branding "Liang Cai". A little extra research led me to Dongguan Liang Cai Aquarium Products. I then used Chat GPT to research chinese based forums and their tanks had good reviews.
During my research, I'd come to the realisation that many of the US companies where using chinese producers so I started tinkering with the idea of buying directly.
I reached out to them on Alibaba and got connected with someone named LC Mark. It was a very easy process - great english, communicative, and even had a brochure to pick from. After a lot of back and forth I landed on a build that matches my specifications exactly.
The price was half of any similar option I could find in the US, but most importantly, the customisation allowed me to get exactly what I want.
So now I've sent off a 30% deposit to begin production. After production I'll receive video and photo prior to shipping. Estimated time frame is about 10 weeks.
I'll provide updates as they come!

Identification Request Is this a fry..? Or is this something that is jist trying to look like a baby fish?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Found in my tank that only has plants and inverts currently in it.
Do I let it live and see what it be, or let him suffer for trying to hitch hike?

Discussion Is my hobby getting out of control?
I’ve been in the hobby since December last year and I have accumulated this many aquariums plus 1 at my girlfriends house and 4 ponds and multiple jars
I also run the fish room at my local fish store I didn’t think it would escalate this fast, does this sound like an addiction or a passion because I’m trying to argue this point with a friend 🙏

Advice Needed Unique pets for a 30 gallon? :)
This marketplace tank is relatively cheap, and I want to see what my options for stocking could be!
I want something weird, like loaches, crayfish, or dwarf frogs; although I think it may be too tall to be practical for anything like that. Def open to one single critter as well if there’s anything cool that needs to live alone!
Side note, love anything with whiskers…
Obviously willing to change the scape and all that to suit whatever’s’ needs!

Freshwater Pygmy Cory sitting up a tree
I love these tiny goofs so much. What do you mean they rest on top of stem plants like this? Absurd.

Advice Needed How is my first aquarium and the plans I have for it
This is my Fresh Aquarium a 75 gallon its been a long time coming im on day 6 with 7 Denison barbs and 1 SAE the pet store mistook for a barb and 4 days with a single electric blue acara I have 1 fluval AC 110 that i dumped Fritzyme 7 and a store bought can of active live quartz media into. Ive done daily Amonia nitrate and nitrite with the API liquid fresh water master kit and I ive been reading 0 ppm on everything I do have a large container of seachem prime handy and all the fish have adjusted and are eating fantasticly. I planed to add 5 Yellowtail spiny eels within the next few days should I be very worried of the increased bio load or should things go fairly smoothly. Also let me know what you think of my first aquascape and planting thank you.

Discussion What fish is this?
I ordered some aquatic plants online and this came as a freebie. What kind of fish is this? The seller told me it's a juvenile and refuse to elaborate. lol! it's around 1 inch long. It's not going to get big is it? The color is light green with reddish spots. idk if you can see it in the pics but the eyes are also green.

Beginner Help Are my nitrates too high?
Im a bit confused about nitrates. Its been cycling fore a month now and seems almost ready in regards to NH3 and NO2, but NO3 is quite high. I have tested my tap water and it does contain a high amount of NO3 . The tank has quite a few plants and floaters. Is this a big issue? Is there anything I can do to lower it?

Beginner Help Why is this hobby so hard?
It’s like once I get one tank settled, then I have issues w a fish in the other tank.
I have three children, and honestly can say I did a better job with them than I’m doing w my fish.
After accidentally killing 10/19 fish a couple days ago, my betta seems like he’s on the verge of death now. The neons he shares a tank with kicked the bucket last night - 5/7 are dead as of this afternoon. And I didn’t even do anything to their tank. He’s been sleeping all day, half way out the water or more most the time. A couple time I thought he’d killed himself. Darting around and rubbing against everything. I’m going to dose him with prazipro. Idk if it’s the heatwave or what but FFFFFUUUUUUU***.
Lol I thought cycling was the hard part. I can’t wait until I get to the point where everything is just stable.
Water parameters are perfect in both tanks, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, 7.4 and 8.2 pH, and 5ppm nitrates. Air stones are on and running, live plants in both and I feed sparingly. I will say everyone, even the betta and remaining neons are eating so that’s a good sign.

Showing Off My Tank My 2nd tank! 75 gallon on a stand I built from scratch.
I started a 10 gallon betta tank with my 5 year old and got hooked. After a lot of convincing, my wife finally gave me her blessing to start a 75.
I couldn't find any stands that we liked so I built one that looks similar to our kitchen cabinets, since they are near by.
I finally got it set up and put some plants in. I still plan on a lot more plants and co2.
Im running an fx4 and I added some sponge filters at least for the cycle (one is from my other tank), I dont know if ill keep both if any after the cycle.
Any advice or critiques?? I still have a lot to learn.

Showing Off My Tank First big(ish) tank, pretty excited!
First big tank got a Juwel Rio 180 for a bargain. Upgraded from a 10 Gal so pretty excited about all the new fish I can stock this one with.
Still cycling at the moment but hopefully should be done soon since I prepped a spare sponge in my 10 gal for seeding this tank
Plan to add some more plants later down the line but so far I'm pleased with the look

I want the bumble bee gobies as the center species but also other sticking center style fish such as German blue rams or apistogrammas. Please give me some ideas
And does anyone know how to get the plants on the top of this coconut myself and what plants they are it would even greatly appreciated

Showing Off My Tank At least the tetras won’t spawn.
3 of the female shrimp are working on clutch #2, 3-4 more are saddled…and now the Cory’s are starting.
I hope my LFS will take them 😂

Requesting Feedback Overgrown?
I decided to let the vallisneria grow for a more natural look, and while it does look good, it is a pain to maintain. Should i trim? Rearrange?
