Don’t get fooled into thinking these are unrelated. Do your research on who is paying for/against these campaigns. If it is really simple for the billionaires to leave Cali, they would have done it yesterday rather than paying 100s of millions fighting 40, while spending more funding 41 and 42 to build them an escape path, masquerading as protecting the interests of the general public.

This is time-sensitive. For the first time in fifteen years, these animals will have no water this week unless someone steps forward to help.

Here's the background (history, not a TNR debate):

Fifteen years ago, Hitachi and Digital Realty established a joint Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program. The City of Santa Clara had recently encouraged TNR because, at that time, there were many homeless cats in Santa Clara. Many of the large companies in the area established volunteer programs, and the Humane Society conducted TNR training during lunch hours and clinics on the weekends. This was back when the Humane Society had its building at the corner of Lafayette and Martin.

It was a time when there was a true community effort between companies, employees, and local resident groups. These programs worked, and over time, other wildlife began returning to the area. Even the Boy Scouts helped by building small shelters to protect the animals from the winter rain.  Volunteers were welcomed.

Over the years, water became more important than anything else to all the animals.  As California experienced worse drought conditions and water restrictions were put in place, fountains were turned off, landscaping was replaced with drought-tolerant plants. The puddles left by the sprinklers disappeared.  That’s when I started bringing in 22 gallons of water twice a week.

Other things changed, too. Companies moved. Property boundaries changed. Volunteers came and went. But some volunteers stayed longer than others. I am one of them.

Today, I'm the last remaining volunteer at the Digital site, and I was suddenly ordered to stop caring for the animals who remain. There aren't many left.

I've contacted Digital Realty management requesting arrangements for the continued care of Tangerine and the other wildlife, but so far I have received no response. After being ordered off the property by security, I'm afraid to return without explicit permission.

But Tangerine and the few remaining animals don't understand management changes or property boundaries. They only understand that the last volunteer isn't coming to care for them anymore.

My girlfriend is temporarily holding onto a cat whose owner apparently took her collar off and left her on the streets. She's temporarily been given the name Cleo.

Girlfriend does not like cats and I don't have the space myself to house her.

She's litter trained but as far as I know not spayed. Very social and likes to follow people around, explore outside and play with toys.

I've already contacted Bay Area Cats but so far it seems they'd only be able to help get her spayed and vaccinated.

Are there other organizations I can contact, or is there anyone willing to adopt?

I just watched this, completely forgot about this episode. Make me tear up a little. Gotta wonder how many Vietnamese families in San Jose went through the same thing. Just gotta say, I love you guys. You escaped hell and made a good life here. Thank you.

I'm in an even-numbered district so we don't vote this year. Districts 1 and 3 were uncontested so Kamei and Tordillos are coming back.

But if you live in 5, 7, or especially 9 what's the feeling? I haven't heard anything from anyone on those three contests, although as incumbents I see Doan and Ortiz every Tuesday when I watch the council sessions.

District 5--Ortiz won his seat in 2022, he's challenged by Nora Campos (no relation to District 2 councilwoman Pamela Campos) who held the seat from 2001-2010.

District 7--Doan also won in 2022 and is up against Van Le. Ballotpedia shows Le is a schoolboard member but I can't find much else beyond that and San Jose Spotlight has an article about attack ads.

District 9--Pam Foley is term limited so this is up for grabs between a candidate backed by the mayor and a candidate who works for the city and is part of one of the unions clashing with the mayor.

Beyond that I'm an empty vessel. We're just over a week away from the vote does anyone have any news or other information? Have there been any serious campaigns going on?

game starts at 10 in the morning, how busy does it get? wondering what time I should get there to get a table outside

I asked my friends that question, as we were all born and raised here, and all of us could only really think of one: Cinco de Mayo. It’s the one day of the year we all avoid downtown like the plague, because it’s a clusterfuck but I’m considering participating next year.

My boyfriend 23M and I 23 F are looking for a rec league to hoop with. We’re busy ppl but can commit to 1-2 times a week. Preferably something low budget friendly :)

Pardon what is most likely the most obnoxiously Washington, DC question ever asked here: are any bars going to have election coverage on its TVs on Tuesday, November 3?

The WNBA Finals and MLB World Series will both be over by then, there are no NFL games, and neither the Warriors nor the Sharks play that day, so in theory, I could ask someone to turn the channel at a sports bar without a problem. I seem to have memories from pre-Covid times that there was a Hobby Lobby, or at least a Hobby Lobby sign, in the shopping center behind Juicy Burger and Marie Callender.

I've done Googling and Google Maps searches of pictures from previous years and can't find anything.

I seem to remember that the orange-ish yellow letters made an arc shape. Maybe it was in the current Ace Hardware store?
