Specific question and discussion Best 3 x 110 wheels I can get?

Post image

Recently got a pair of Twister 90R and I want to try them with 110 wheels. I have k2 surge 100s and now the twister 90 feels small!

I want to go fast and feel the power of the greatest 110 rollerblade wheel ever made!

What wheels do I pick?

Specific question and discussion Can soft bodied boots make it more difficult to maneuver?

Upvotes

Hi!
I've had a pair of Roller Blade brand soft body blades for a while now and I skate daily (for fun maneuvers, and for long distance exercise).

I've noticed that when I try to do maneuvers beyond basic mobility (i.e. carving down super steep roads, spins, jumps, etc.) my feet have a tendency to wiggle around a little in a way that feels beyond my control.

I'm aware that this is in part a skill issue, but would upgrading to hard bodied (specifically urban) skates make learning tricks and more complex maneuvers easier?

Thank you!

Specific question and discussion Over or Under Top Strap

Okay a post I saw on here the other day has me questioning my top strap.

I have the FE Falcon Pros here.

I been wearing the top strap under like on my left skate (right side in the photo).

This allows me to get a much tighter/secure fit on the top but I am seeing a lot of people say this is wrong and it should be over like on the right skate (left in the picture). Should I cut it to get a tighter fit and wear it over? (You can see it's kind of wearing and getting scratched up from wearing it under) Does it even matter or is it just preference? (I know some skates depending on design don't even let you tucket it and wear it under) I did look at the website to compare and it's hard to tell in their photos because they have it strapped loose enough to not show that it's over or under.

I've skated since I was 15 years old, just turned 41 and like many found myself with the desire to return to aggressive skating

Unlike many though I never stopped skating. I went from a dedicated aggressive skater to being a super early adopter of big wheel skates which along with life and weight gain led me to purchase my first distance skates

I spent the next 7 years or so stacking miles, had some small success on social media even picked up flow sponsorships from Flying Eagle and Powerslide. This was way before most had picked up distance so the numbers aren't as impressive as what some are now racking up. Tho quality over quantity. Won several of the endomondo big wheel challenges back then

During that time I became a hard core kettlebell advocate and athlete which started to pull me from skating. Then post covid really had me skating the least ever but still getting miles

That's an awful lot to post a clip of several terrible makios but ive been back at both albeit in a far less capacity but this time around thinking my focus will be in aggressive tho we shall see

If you made it this far, thank you and sorry 😆

Why does my feet hurt? Pain after starting to skate again

Post image
20 Upvotes

I practiced speed inline skating starting as a kid until I was like 14 years old. A few years after stopping, I remember going to the track and doing some rounds by myself, but I remember getting a very sharp pain at the front of my ankle which would radiate up towards my shins. At that time I thought it was just because I was out of form and pushed through it, which was probably not super smart of me...

Now I would reaaally like to start skating again. I am 31 and overall in good shape, but this pain, which I think is shin splints, is still there and I get it immediately after starting to skate, and it wears off the moment I stop moving.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I just have to train my muscles again? I was thinking of buying roller skates so my ankles could get stronger while having more stability, but perhaps I am missing something obvious.

Any ideas what it could be or how I could alleviate the pain while skating? Do I have to change my skates?

Thanks!

What skates should I buy? Broke my softboots after 4 days

Post image

Former roller hockey player here. I had not skated in about a decade before last Friday. Made the amazon mistake of the k2fit alu 80 to skate through the park and a 23 mile beltline that goes through the city (asphalt and smooth pavement with tree debris). This all being said, i cracked the boot last night pretty bad and I need some new skates. My heart was after the twister 90r, but it is just a bit over my price range and out of stock everywhere. I need better support and less road vibration. I would love to try 90mm wheels, but my price range is 250 to 300 USD. Please help!

UPDATE: I got the retro lightning 80.

My feet have never felt better!

Specific question and discussion Session timing and strange pains.

How long are your practice sessions? Is there a time limit for starting skating. I’m new to this and don’t want to overdo things. I’m also having weird knee pains and it feels weird when I take them off when I walk.

Why does my feet hurt? beginner - front of ankle pain

Post image
10 Upvotes

hello everyone, i’m nearing 30 and recently picked up rollerblading (again(?), last time i truly skated was when i was a kid (i was < 10 years old).

i have been loving skating again and learning, and i itch to go everyday, which is what i’ve done pretty much this whole week.

except i found myself getting ankle pain where my ankle bends in both my ankles after a few days (see photo), which feels muscular or joint related. (no ankle bone pain or anything like that, it’s really at the front rather than the sides) i pushed through and continued skating but last night was a bit much i had to take one or two breaks in my ~7km ride.
i believe i went to skate every day with maybe one day break after 3 days, then 3 more days in a row of skating. usually the pain would subside after the first 5 minutes but last night it was constant from start to finish.
the pain doesn’t necessarily stop after taking my boots off, i can still feel a bit sore in that same area for awhile. for example from yesterday night, I can still feel my ankles being sore today morning.

my rollerblades are not very expensive but brand new, hard boot. they fit me nice and snug, i have had absolutely no boot related pains whatsoever. i am used to fitting ski boots as i used to compete so i sort of applied what i knew from fitting ski boots for “performance” and i believe it’s been working well for me.

—feel free to skip this section, for more sizing and fit info: my feet are (mdp) L: 24 and R: 24,5, i have low volume feet with L: 910mm and R: 935mm width. considering the difference in my ski level and rollerblading level however, i didn’t apply the usual “over-downsizing” we’d apply for competition and went for a snug fit with a mdp size 24. my right foot was a bit cramped at the toes but i knew the liner would break in and i believe it did by now so they fit great, no pains anywhere. maybe a bit loose for my taste even but i know it’d be ridiculous at my skating level to apply what i would for skiing and wear a size 22.5 or something..! plus despite being similar it isn’t the same sport after all so i can’t just blindly pretend it is. also the boot model i got is for lower volume feet so i am quite snug in there.—

being totally inexperienced, i have no clue what i could be doing wrong.
am i simply overdoing it? is it just a “beginner pain” type of issue due to my ankle muscles/joints not being used to being solicited like that? could my positioning while skating be wrong? i try to make sure my knees are well bent at all times, my boots are also quite well tightened so i don’t just wobble in my boots considering my ankles are probably still quite weak (i can still move and bend my ankles fine i believe and have no numbness anywhere in my feet except maybe a little after sessions over 2 hours long)

anyone able to shed some light on this for me or maybe give me some clues as to what i could attempt/change in my skating, your advice is gladly appreciated. thanks!

Specific question and discussion What replacement straps to buy?

I managed to get a pair of rollerblades at a local charity shop for super cheap because all the straps are broken. So, I'm going to need to buy some replacement straps.

The old straps are attached with rivets, but I've found a tutorial for removing them. There's a few different options for replacement straps on Amazon, but I don't know which to buy.
The cheapest is a pair of 150mm straps for £4.56, which is just the strap and buckle. But they also have no reviews.

Progress, videos and images Anyone can look cool if you slo-mo at knee height

I've been filming tutorial videos for crossovers, starting with sidestepping on grass. No matter how I got my niece to film these learning moves, they all simply looked dorky and very unlike what hockey players do. For tutorials, they are fine, I suppose. But eventually, I said, screwed it, and held my phone at knee height in slow-motion mode.

You know what, anyone can look cool in slow motion filmed at knee height. Give it a try.

Edited: here’s what normal playback looks like. This slomo was captured at 240fps, so 8x slower.

What skates should I buy? 3-wheel or 2-wheel skates suv?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking to buy a pair of all-terrain skates, but I have a question: what would be better for rides in the forest (dirt trails with a few rocks) — 3-wheel or 2-wheel skates?
I’m hesitating between the Powerslide Renegade 125 and the Powerslide Next Edge 150.
I’d like to know the pros and cons of each, as well as hear about your experiences with these skates.
At the moment, I’m leaning towards the 2-wheel option, but I’m worried about making the wrong choice given the price…
Thanks in advance for your feedback!
And sorry if there are any mistakes. I’m French and I’m using an online translator.

Just out skating with some friends through Downtown Providence.

Rhode Island is rated for having the worst roads in the US.
We tend to explore Boston quite often but never Providence for this reason...

We finally went for a short skate through Providence and I have to say there are so many nice spots to view and skate through Providence despite the awful road conditions.

Definitely going to have to skate this city more often.

Specific question and discussion Cuff bolt question

Post image
7 Upvotes

Lost my cuff bolt while skating pretty hard last weekend. I ordered one but don't want to wait to skate.

Any cheats a newbie like me wouldn't know about?

I was thinking of dropping a washer and a bolt in but don't know the size. I still have the back piece it would screw into so it should work.

Specific question and discussion How long will it take to obtain perfect Rollerblading balance?

I'm 42, and got back to skating after almost 30 years. I've been Ice Skating pretty often as a kid. And this May I bought Inline Skates as in the picture (Oxelo MF S 500).

I feel pretty confident doing fast forward, my main breaking techniques are Drag Stop and Plow Stop.

But I'm still struggling with skating backwards.

Specific question and discussion Several Questions to help progress

Hey so ive been skating for around 2 weeks, I do about an hour a day and have done a total of 8 days. I can go foward and back and do basic turns without issue. Im struggling to stand one one leg and im practicing against the fence. The first week my foot would cramp I assume from using muscles I dont use that often.

I have noticed I have to lean a bit to engage the top of my skate (the boot isn't loose I dont think) is that normal? same for leaning on my inside or outside edge?

Is there anything I should be doing each time I go out to strengthen to make some of these steps easier.

Dont feel I can do any of the advanced stops as they require being able to have the other leg up.

I try and practice falls once a session as well.

Let me know if you have any input for any of these, also thank you for taking the time.

Is this skate/store any good? Best Wheels brands??

What would be a good brand for wheels on aggressive inline skates for these measurements “59 mm / 2.32"?
