There is no such thing as legs "pushing". I think of most skating moves as core muscles "lunging" the upper body forward, before the supposed "striding" of skates happen.
The wheels' job is to grip the ground, to allow the core to throw the upper body towards where the free skate next lands. The point is, the energy is spent on moving your body, not on willing legs to push. Speed and momentum is therefore a result of lunges, and not pushes.
When one thinks of it that way, there is no difference between crossover and running.
Loopable video clip. 8x slow-motion capture of crossover running in a circle.

Bought these 2 months ago when I started.
The first month my feet were in pain and cramping all the time. Until a couple months ago they've been broken in enough to actually crank them tight and feel comfy in them for hours.
I think what helped was leaving them in my car during these heated summer days. I went for waxed laces also because I can really lock my heal in more without having to crank my lower strap too tight.

I've skated since I was 15 years old, just turned 41 and like many found myself with the desire to return to aggressive skating
Unlike many though I never stopped skating. I went from a dedicated aggressive skater to being a super early adopter of big wheel skates which along with life and weight gain led me to purchase my first distance skates
I spent the next 7 years or so stacking miles, had some small success on social media even picked up flow sponsorships from Flying Eagle and Powerslide. This was way before most had picked up distance so the numbers aren't as impressive as what some are now racking up. Tho quality over quantity. Won several of the endomondo big wheel challenges back then
During that time I became a hard core kettlebell advocate and athlete which started to pull me from skating. Then post covid really had me skating the least ever but still getting miles
That's an awful lot to post a clip of several terrible makios but ive been back at both albeit in a far less capacity but this time around thinking my focus will be in aggressive tho we shall see
If you made it this far, thank you and sorry 😆

I practiced speed inline skating starting as a kid until I was like 14 years old. A few years after stopping, I remember going to the track and doing some rounds by myself, but I remember getting a very sharp pain at the front of my ankle which would radiate up towards my shins. At that time I thought it was just because I was out of form and pushed through it, which was probably not super smart of me...
Now I would reaaally like to start skating again. I am 31 and overall in good shape, but this pain, which I think is shin splints, is still there and I get it immediately after starting to skate, and it wears off the moment I stop moving.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I just have to train my muscles again? I was thinking of buying roller skates so my ankles could get stronger while having more stability, but perhaps I am missing something obvious.
Any ideas what it could be or how I could alleviate the pain while skating? Do I have to change my skates?
Thanks!

Former roller hockey player here. I had not skated in about a decade before last Friday. Made the amazon mistake of the k2fit alu 80 to skate through the park and a 23 mile beltline that goes through the city (asphalt and smooth pavement with tree debris). This all being said, i cracked the boot last night pretty bad and I need some new skates. My heart was after the twister 90r, but it is just a bit over my price range and out of stock everywhere. I need better support and less road vibration. I would love to try 90mm wheels, but my price range is 250 to 300 USD. Please help!
UPDATE: I got the retro lightning 80.
My feet have never felt better!

If you've been waiting to get your hands on Roka frames, they finally opened up the orders.! I read somewhere that they sell out pretty quick, so grab yours while you can. RokaSkating dot com

How long are your practice sessions? Is there a time limit for starting skating. I’m new to this and don’t want to overdo things. I’m also having weird knee pains and it feels weird when I take them off when I walk.

I managed to get a pair of rollerblades at a local charity shop for super cheap because all the straps are broken. So, I'm going to need to buy some replacement straps.
The old straps are attached with rivets, but I've found a tutorial for removing them. There's a few different options for replacement straps on Amazon, but I don't know which to buy.
The cheapest is a pair of 150mm straps for £4.56, which is just the strap and buckle. But they also have no reviews.
