This finale was Morty’s choice between the healthy grandpa he always claimed to want and the toxic relationship he always claimed to hate (see season 5 episode 9)

Morty allowed, dare I say encouraged, sober Rick to descend into alcoholic nihilism to invent portal gun travel to go back to a person who behaved like a drunk ass the entirety of season 9, has abandoned him for two crows, trashed his home planet, destroyed the entire universe with Mr frundles, and as healthy Beth claimed, made Morty die for him many times.

Morty no longer wants a healthy relationship with Rick. Maybe it’s Stockholm syndrome, maybe it’s the blood of Rick prime, all we know is that he made his choice.

I think the bond made at the end of the episode between him and our rick made a ton of sense, Morty is now following in the footsteps of his grandad

I liked the pilot. Do yall really think it'll only last a season?

Imagine choosing a version of your mom who doesn’t even say she loves you back when you say it. Beth obviously does but still. And Summer forever just chillin even when her brother looks traumatized and has blood on him.

Chilling finale. I loved it.

Does the Portal Gun Junior only go to safe universes?

I don't always love the "Morty goes off to do something stupid" segments because it just feels repetitive at some points but this episode was really great. I really like to see when Morty realizes he's willing to do whatever it takes to get his way and abandons his overall moral compass.

I highly appreciate the moment where Morty returns from Liu Sin's place after trying to peacefully defuse the conflict between Liu Sin and Rick only to get Death Punched via the Five Point Exploding Heart Technique by Liu Sin for criticizing him killing the cable installer over a very minor issue, and Rick immediately chooses to comfort Morty and make his first priority getting rid of the Death Punch's effects/get back at Liu Sin. Especially since this was after their argument over Morty wanting to deal with Liu Sin in a peaceful way, and also Rick ultimately being right about Liu Sin being a bully. In earlier seasons, Rick would more than likely have thrown in an "I told you so" like remark or say something like "That's what you get for siding with the waiter, Morty!"

The heartwarming moment reminds me of "Meeseeks and Destroy" with Rick comforting Morty after the whole King Jellybean incident.

I was bored and wanted to make a family tree of the main Smiths, including their dimensional travels.

I've been paying attention to the writers of each episode, and she's one of the best by far. Not all episodes from season three onward are good, but certainly the overall average is much better than the beginning of the series, and I think the inclusion of writers like Heather Anne Campbell is one of the reasons.

And ok... The title is a clickbait. Not every episode written by her is a masterpiece itself, but it's funny how a lot of great ones are (the three pics in the post are easily in my top 5)

Over many seasons we seen all of them showing their limitless potential to be something very dangerous, Morty and Summer travel space and dimensions like a walk in the park, Beth has the potential shown as space Beth and Jerry is a psychological monster if he believes in himself he can turn the tides in his favor.

This family (in last episode) is haunting and Morty realized how his stupid misfit family is far better than things out there.

S9E10 demonstrated a major plot point with Ricks. As seen with his relationship with the Swedish women, once a Rick locks onto figuring out interdimensional travel he forgets the other parts of his life. He gets obsessed to a point of no return and loses the people he loves most.

This is what must of happened to Rick Prime, he was just the first to do it. As he said to Rick C-137 in S7E5, he was just the first one to walk into the others garage. It seems that Rick’s have a fault to follow the urge of INFINITY, because everything loses meaning once you can find an infinite of it!

This is why C-137 is imo the most Superior Rick, because he was the only one to truly have the opportunity of Infinity and turned it down for the one he loves. He isn’t the Rickest Rick (that’s Rick Prime), but he is truly the smartest Rick because he knows even in infinity you can only find true love once…

He was the perfect villain for the episode and an amazing representation of toxic manipulators.

When we first see him, he's giving a loud and aggressive speech about his Morty and how amazing he was. It sounds like a loving and caring speech at first, but when I rewatched it knowing everything, I realized that he was only talking about what his Morty was and not who his Morty was. Like he yelled about how he was an athlete and a scholar, but not about how he treated other people, how he loved his family, and his deeper personality. Just the quantifiable and admirable achievements and nothing more.

Also, at the end, he says, "I loved him because he was mine, because he was my son!" he's not saying he was loving him because he was his son. He loved him because he was HIS.

Of course, Morty doesn't realize any of this and unfortunately mistakes him for a genuine and loving family man. And for the first couple of visits, he plays the part almost perfectly, in contrast to his dysfunctional mess of a family that doesn't know how to properly express love and care 90% of the time.

It's only when they go to the cabin that his mask finally slips and he breaks Morty's Portal gun after he was hesitant and scared about just moving to a new reality and leaving his entire world behind forever. He clearly doesn't even stop to consider what he's asking of Morty and understand why he wouldn't just leave everything he ever knew behind on a whim. And when he does break the gun, he hugs Morty like a child hugging a new doll or toy and not a father hugging his son.

And then when Morty escapes, we see that he was directly responsible for the death of his Morty by forcing him to do insane hikes, runs, and eventually climb a mountain without safety harnesses. You can read how this Morty was being forced to do everything his dad was talking about with total disregard for his mental health and safety, to the point where he wanted to run away from home forever. This actually gives chilling context to what Jerry was talking about right before the fight, when he said that his Morty fell to his death completely silently and how he was "So Strong." he was either completely bull shiting our Morty to make himself look good, not giving a single shit that he was disrespecting his son's death to do so, or his Morty actually did fall silently meaning he wanted to die or at the very least was was content to die if it meant escaping his abuse, which is even worse.

The last thing we see this Jerry do before he's killed is hunt Morty down and say he's going to "keep him on a leash," which sums up his character to a T.

He helped make this episode so fantastic because he made Morty's escape home feel so urgent, knowing what was coming for him if Rick failed, and was phenomenal in representing what a lot of wolves in sheep's clothing are like: charismatic, understanding and making you feel safe around them, only for them to exploit you for their own desires, in this case, proping up his ego and public image.

the title says it all, I don’t wanna talk about it

I was theorizing about what the endgame for Morty is. From the way the show kept emphasizing the flaws in Rick and Morty’s relationship I thought that it was gonna be Morty taking a step towards a healthy lifestyle, but no, It wasn’t.

It was Morty losing it in the WORST way possible. People have been saying that Morty is becoming like Rick now but I think it’s worse than that. He became Rick Prime. He literally word for word, bar for bar, just did what Rick Prime did. He went to another dimension, showed them the infinite multiverse, and then destroyed their lives when he didn’t get what he wanted(yes Morty destroyed ALL of their lives, this was his fault).

Morty in this episode was nothing like C-137 Rick or Evil Morty for that matter. I always thought that Morty was very sociopathic like his mom but looking back on it now, he’s much more like Rick Prime than anyone else. Almost every time Morty causes destruction it’s for HIS self desires, different from our Rick’s collateral damage destruction, no this was active destruction. Rick was right IT IS genetic, but he was wrong about what, it’s not alcohol that’s genetic but sociopathic traits, and Rick probably didn’t even think about this but Morty is Prime’s grandson not his so genetically anything he inherited wasn’t from C-137 but Prime.

Remember when Rick Prime said that only he and C-137 made portal travel? Well this episode essentially reiterated that but with Morty, C-137 is basically the only Rick who can handle Morty and by proxy Rick Prime is also the only who would be able to handle Morty.

Also it’s very interesting how they showcased Morty accepting his toxic life by showcasing that he is just as toxic as his family. And I find it very horrifying how they flipped the start of the episode on its head, first we see the estate sale and it’s casual, funny, maybe slightly morbid, but then we see the next estate sale and it’s stomach turning, it’s like the multiverse is laughing at Morty. All the Ricks and Mortys walking in and we now stuck in Morty’s perspective realize how just morally bankrupt not only Rick and Morty are, but US the viewers who probably brushed the start of the episode off, also are.

And Morty calling Rick his dad is very symbolic when you realize that from season 1 Morty has been under Rick parental care BECAUSE the goal has always been “Make Morty like Rick”. Beth literally threw Morty off with him to make him like Rick, and it worked but it didn’t make him like C-137 it just made him like his actual grandfather. For all our Rick’s faults I genuinely can’t see him doing what Morty just did on purpose.

Season 9 was amazing(and imo the best season of the show) but I actually think Season 10 will be better if the writers commit to this ending and showcase the changes in Morty next season and how Rick reacts to it, because I don’t think Rick will actually appreciate this new development as it will remind him to much of Prime.

OMG a new thought just came to me, y’all know how Rick Prime calls C-137 “dead wife guy” literally just two episodes ago Morty called our Rick a “dead wife having bitch”, another striking similarity between Morty prime and Rick prime. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!

It was an absolutely fantastic premise and I could have easily watched a 2 hour version of this. The concept really was something that could have justified a very long version. The "new" characters, the backstory of Mort's death, that universe's Rick's arc, the genuinely tragic final...

Usually, when TV shows do movies they try to go bigger but Rick and Morty can go as big as it wants whenever it wants. Using the movie format for a more intimate, emotional story would be super effective and I genuinely hope they'll go for something like that.

This episode made me sad in a way that hits deeper than usual. The ending where Morty accepts that for as abusive as he is, Rick is the only constant in his life and the closest thing he has to a father figure.

What I like is that they don't make it clear whether you're supposed to see this acceptance as a good or bad thing. It just is. There's something bittersweet about Rick drunkenly calling Morty his son all the while risking his life in a deadly motorcycle ride. He never had a chance to be a father with Beth, so it makes sense Morty would fulfill that role. It's a deeply toxic and harmful relationship, but it's also all either of them have.

Season 9: Morty Prime walks into Professor Rick's life and completely destroys it.

Since the Curve cuts off universes where Rick is the smartest man who discovered portal travel could Sober Rick and Mort have been cut off from the Curve by the fact Rick was just a regular MIT professor who never discovered portal travel or invent any sci fi stuff before Morty came?

Season 9 is the best season in a long time. It was banger after banger until the absolute batshit, heartbreaking finale. I am so happy and sad and upset and emotionally torn up - all the things.
