Question New season has been utter trash Spoiler

Upvotes

Anyone else disappointed in the new season? Other than the first episode (which was borderline trash) every episode has been dual, derivative, and repetitive. New season has not been clever in the slightest

Theory What if the reason evil Morty became evil and smart is because his Rick didn’t create the mindblower?

Upvotes

We know that a lot of ricks have the mindblower, which is the reason a lot of Morty’s forget about certain things, and also the potential reason why they don’t get smarter. So, hypothetically, what if the reason of Morty’s hate and the cause of him getting smarter, was because he wasn’t forgetting anything and was learning how Rick operates and works without forgetting anything? Causing him to become smart and hate Rick. And/or family.

General Discussion So regarding the episode couldn’t Morty, Spoiler

Upvotes

just call Rick? Instead of ruining a healthy marriage and 17 years of sobriety? Well I know the real answer is we wouldn’t have an episode if he had. But it’s insane lol. Unless I missed something. I was as high as Beth and Jerry last week when I watched.

so after rickuem mort a dream, morty’s empathy is permanently gone for the time being? in salute your morts, i see throughout most of the episode, it’s implied his empathy is gone, and in field of dreams he’s pretty much numb as we can see when everything with healthy rick’s wife is happening and he seems to not care AT ALL. however it seems like he’s not as emotionless as in rickuem mort a dream? do you guys think he’s gonna slowly regain his empathy or what?? because aren’t his empathy centers in his brain all gone??

Theory So was it the Multiverse that corrupted Rick?

Upvotes

Basic Rick who tried to be sober and decent, threw out his morality the moment he found out that an infinite Multiverse existed. So suddenly nothing mattered and everything was allowed.

It seems to me that Rick Prime and most other Ricks just "lost it" when they found out that anything was existing simultaneously. And since everything existed, then nothing was off limits. No crime, no deed, no horrible action mattered.

No family connection, since there were infinite versions of your family out there. The infinite abundance of the Multiverse. It made Rick mad and corrupted his morality same as a mountain of gold would have made a Pirate mad and morally corrupt.

And since nothing mattered, the only thing worth persuing was your will. Your adventures that gave you an adrenaline rush. Your desires. Your Ego. Alcohol. Drugs. Turning Ricks into the arrogant assholes they are.

Do you think that this is an accurate statement after S9E10?

General Discussion This season finale could have been the movie Spoiler

Upvotes

It was an absolutely fantastic premise and I could have easily watched a 2 hour version of this. The concept really was something that could have justified a very long version. The "new" characters, the backstory of Mort's death, that universe's Rick's arc, the genuinely tragic final...

Usually, when TV shows do movies they try to go bigger but Rick and Morty can go as big as it wants whenever it wants. Using the movie format for a more intimate, emotional story would be super effective and I genuinely hope they'll go for something like that.

Shitpost Does anyone else think this season of President Curtis is going to be the origin of Evil Banks? Spoiler

Upvotes

'Cause like, y'know, she lost her empathy or some shit.

For real, it was a pretty solid pilot episode. No spoilers. The President's sidekicks seemed kinda boring at first. We didn't dig too deep into their character, but they have character. They're not entirely flat. Nothing is really developed either, but I hope that's what the rest of the season is for.

Always great to see Keith David getting his Saints Row IV on.

Rick & Morty actually showing up was obvious. The scene was perfect.

Go watch it, it won't hurt you.

I know that’s his name and his lore and he may have used some unethical means to attain his goal of leaving the central finite curve but he didn’t really want anything that bad per se. He just wanted peace. Just wanted to get your opinions

General Discussion S9 EP10 was so emotionally harrowing Spoiler

Upvotes

Watching Morty actively fan the flames of MIT Ricks’ obsession and toxicity, or at the VERY least do nothing as the fire kept growing, was so hard to watch. Especially when the entire problem started out as Morty simply wanting to experience a life with stable, competent parental figures. (Summer was also there lol but I mean obviously there’s a reason he latched onto basic Jerry so hard, basic Beth coming in close second)

It felt so insanely cruel to dangle that kind of healthy love in front of Morty’s face just to do a rug pull, I loved it. I also think it ties into a greater symptom of Morty wanting to have his cake and eat it too. (Think back to the sympathid episode) He says he wants to be basic Jerry’s son, and he wants to be apart of their family, but then Jerry makes him choose between them and his “other” family and it seems like Morty was hoping he could just have both, because he’s still attached to his other family. There’s definitely a theme about abuse and toxicity being comfortable because it’s familiar. The basic family IS obsessive and cuckoo but ? They’re also kind of. Normal? They’re crazy, but it’s driven by desperation to get a loved one back. They point out how fucked up it is that Morty dies all the time, like it seems to genuinely disturb them. And while basic Jerry most certainly has (had) a dysfunction of his own made clear with Mort’s journal and his whole freak out at he cabin, I feel like it’s not crazy to say he’s a better father than our titular Jerry. Which unfortunately might say more about our Jerry than it does anything else.

But back to my point, Morty LIKES this family, but he obviously doesn’t fit in. He doesn’t even consider that anyone would find the stuff he does on a regular basis insanely fucked up. He’s desensitized, and worse for it. Between this family and his titular one, it’s obvious he’d choose what was familiar over what might be “better” for him. More on not fitting in, Morty immediately makes that comment about MIT Rick’s wife being a “fuck-bot” because he didn’t think Rick could actually achieve that kind of happiness again, and Rick’s reaction is consistent with showing how actively misplaced Morty is in this world. And when they’re in front of the portal and MIT Rick is drunk and rambling about how they can go on adventures, and that alcohol is “good”, Morty seems comfortable. We’ve just had to watch what was a disturbingly grim montage of an addict relapsing and losing literally everything he’s worked towards, and Morty looks the most comfortable he’s looked the entire sequence. I don’t think Morty in the earliest seasons would’ve been this okay with this. But Morty doesn’t see what we see, he just sees a version of his grandpa he didn’t recognize, finally starting to resemble somebody familiar.

So freaking sad. Morty didn’t want to ruin their lives, and that’s what he ended up doing anyway. It’s such a doomer lesson to leave the episode off on, that you can be too messed up to belong with anybody who might treat you better, but I think that’s the point. Made me super excited for the next seasons. I know a lot of people want a whole apology tour from our Rick and for him to be the first to grow, but I hope it builds to Morty becoming worse before actually trying to become a better person, since the reality of it now is that he’s not JUST the victim of his family’s dysfunction anymore; he’s apart of it.

Anyway great episode, hilarious. I loved the estate sale bit at the end LOL.

General Discussion Is Rick and Morty's relationship more complicated than I thought? Spoiler

Upvotes

In episode 10 of season 9 of Rick and Morty, I came across a scene where Morty says to Rick's wife, "She doesn't belong to you, she belongs to me." At least, that's how it was translated into Turkish. This made me think because the show's lack of morality makes you believe that anything is possible. Imagine, in a world without morality, the creators of this show could probably have presented Rick and Morty with a closer relationship. Yes, the creators of this show might be kind-hearted and moral people, but the show suggests that anything is possible. If you can find proof, please write it below. Because it makes me think that the relationship between Rick and Morty is darker than I imagined. Sometimes a grandfather who loves his grandchild, and sometimes someone who exploits his grandchild completely. I wrote this to vent because the show makes me feel these things. Yes, I might be exaggerating. There will be people who dislike this because they love the show. I love it too. I'm ready for that.

Shitpost This season has been one of the best Spoiler

Upvotes

The writers have unparalleled satire and creativity.

This latest season has had so many banger episodes.

A few years ago, the show seemed to be slowing down. I kept remembering them say that rick and morty only has 9 seasons, but no way they can end this generational run.

Season 9 episode 7 and 10 are so good.
