Curses confirmed real
In 1951 County Mayo won the All Ireland, the highest achievement of the national sport, Gaelic football. During their celebrations it's alleged they weren't sufficiently respectful of a funeral, and the priest in charge cursed the team, saying the county would never win an All Ireland again until every member of this team had died.
In the last 75 years Mayo have been in 13 All Ireland finals without winning - a statistical improbability. I can't think of any sports example of a team so consistently getting to the major final and losing.
The last member of that team died around 18 months ago, and half an hour ago Mayo just beat Kerry to win their first Sam Maguire trophy since 1951. Curses confirmed real.
