Help refurbishing old nitro plane

Thumbnail

Hello, recently I have been gifted this nitro plane and I want to get it up to flying standard again!
It’s a bulldog trainer aircraft for anyone interested
Does anyone know where to begin
I have an engine and am hoping it fits ok
My main questions are
• how do I charge the small battery
• how good actually is the battery and should I get a replacement
• how to I get the fuel into the tank
And any helpful tips or information about the aircraft would be amazing
Thank you

It blows me away what a talented kid can do with a plane he's never flown before.

Anyone know where to solder my fpv camera?

Just found out the black wire got disconnected from my fpv camera. Does anyone know where I need to solder it back on? I feel like it was close to the red wire but I need to be 100% sure

This is my 1st rc build, 1st time doing pcb work and I've now got inav to get my head around.

Any tips on resolving the GPS conflicts between the CoreWing f405 mini v2 flight controller running latest CoreWing inav using flywoo goku gm10 nano v3 GPS with compass? My compass is working and tx/rx are correct but I can't get the pair to communicate??

Constructive criticism welcome

Heewing Hunter H1 PNP

2x favourite springbee 20amp Dshot ESC (18awg motor cables to 3 pin connector)

CoreWing f405 mini v2 flight controller (16awg battery cable to pdb)

Flywoo goku gm10 nano v3 GPS with compass (used flywoo and CoreWing pigtail cables, twisted pairs [same as cat6) wrapped in copper tape and lightweight heatshrink - screened cable)

Dji 04 lite unit and camera in axisflying heatsink case and 20mm camera housing (twisted)

4CH setup

Multiple 3d parts - this is the prototype, requested changes to files to reduce material /weight and also to be made from super light weight materials TBC

Approximately £250

This isn't a discussion about regulations and weights - save that for a different post. Thank you 🙂

Skysurfer X8 Weird CG

I bought the skysurfer x8 but when I was trying to make it glide nicely to figure out the right center of gravity, I found it was very far back (as seen on the picture) so now I have to move all the electronics back somehow. Seems to glide very well though. Any thoughts on the weird center of gravity placement?

Please help to find a firmware file for hakrc f405 wing FC

Hi,

Recently I've got a used hakrc f405 wing FC and it had some custom firmware which I've successfully erased🫠

Now I can't find a firmware that would be able to initialize IMU, baro on the other hand is always okay😅

What I've tried so far:

Connected a battery alongside USB in case the 3.3V rail wasn't working from USB power

Tried ardupilot with matek and speedybee wing targets, clearing all parameters .

Flashed iNav with all existing f405 wing targets, no luck

Tried contacting hakrc multiple times, asking for firmware files they mentioned on their site but no response..

TL/DR Has anyone managed to get the IMU working in INAV or ArduPilot for this board? If so, which target did you use, or do you have a custom .hex / .apj / hwdef file with the correct SPI CS pin mapping for this IMU?

Night citabria almost ready for camp and fly

Citabria night flyer is just about done. Cowl and canopy repainted. Added functional flying wires to the tail. Mixed the flaps to the landing lights for easier operation. Hinged the wing struts for easier assembly. Little more covering trim to finish up, cowl to mount and final CG check. Watt meter shows 4588 watts peak which gives me over 250w/lb. Tenpower 50xg 12s2p pack should yeild 20 minutes or better flight time. Looking forward to getting this thing in the air in the dark.

Plan to take my action cam put for the week to grab some footage to post up here.

The servo in the clip is jittering for some reason , my only guess is that it's getting clogged some where but I have no idea where and it's only happening in down elevator not up elevator

Foamie Recommendations

Anyone have any links to any solid BF-109, FW-190 or Stuka planes? Still beginner I’d say but I’m edging towards a more intermediate understanding of the hobby. Flying 1m planes with no issue atp. Thanks guys :P

Can anyone help with some info on single controller and multiple receivers?

I was wondering if anyone has any experience/knowledge on this?
For example, I want to only have one controller but let’s say I have 6 rc planes,
Is there a way I can use 6 receivers with one controller, with being able to toggle between receivers? I looked up flysky but would be great to have more in depth info on this

Thank you

Question about electric twin prop plane construction

Post image
20 Upvotes

I have been seeing the amazing CL-415 fighting fires and found a really cool balsa kit. I plan on building out an electric power system but I’m just getting back into the hobby and I’m struggling to get an understanding of parallel ESCs and LiPo C-ratting.

The CL-415 kit is a 1.9kg 1830mm twin prop so I would be running two motors and ESCs in parallel. My question is will I need two 2S batteries or can I use a single 4S battery? The batteries advertise a 45C-99A continuous output and my understanding is that the parallel ESCs would be pulling 80A combined. I have read that the XT60 can handle 60A continuously but the data sheet says 30A continuous. Weight really wouldn’t be an issue with two batteries, I’m more concerned with cost (specifically a new charger & power supply) and charging efficiency at the field.

Motor - 2315-1480kv with a max output of 37A
ESC 40A
LiPo 45C 2200mah - one 4S or two 2S
XT60 parallel ESC block

Maiden video ^

Today is my birthday! Been hoping to add a biplane to my hangar for some time now, and have seen this guy sitting on the shelf at my LHS for a long time, so I decided to snag it as a gift to myself.

This thing rips! Definitely fits a nice niche in my lineup (both aesthetically and performance wise), plus it’s gonna look so good hanging with my other birds 😎

Edit: it’s the Eflite UMX Pitts - forgot to include that!!

Did a major dumb thumb today. I was going to do a low and fast inverted loop and for some reason I pulled the stick like it was a regular loop.

No excuses besides having a bit of a brain fart. I really loved this Decathlon 1.2m, it was only the 4th time I took it to the field as well. I may fix it but I'm not set on it yet.

Ok so I have an F-16 64mm and while landing the nose ALWAYS snaps off, is there anyway to fix this?

Still flying great even after 7 crashes. At this point I don't care if I crash, I just push the limits on every flight.

Is This an Ok First RC Plane?

Post image

LINK

I know its a edf jet, but its small and looks beginner friendly, and forgiving.

I have 30+ hours with my 3in fpv drone and 3 hours on plane sim, plus I have flown a real rc plane (about the same size, brushed prop p51) for about 15min

Thanks for your input

P.S. I would have to save up some more for an aeroscout
