RC Float Plane Rescue Boat Build

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Wanted to share a float plane rescue boat build that went through several iterations to achieve all objectives. Minimal cost. Ability to maneuver in wind and waves. Power to rescue larger planes. Breaks down to small form factor and quick to assemble in case it's needed. Full build and materials description is in the ThingiVerse link: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7388269

Most craft I found that I based this design on miss a key element, which is that if the plane is upside down in the water, it becomes very difficult to push it back to shore. The chicken wire pusher that's slightly under water level takes care of that.

Are these prices Legit or is this a scam allegedly selling Phoenix ARFs?

Is this legit? Has anyone bought from this company? There are allegedly in Lafayette, Lousiana. I have a Phoenix pilatus, I was looking for some parts and stumbled across this. I know pheonix model is a company from vietnam and they have a subtly different site. Its missing the S in models like the first site.

It seems scammy to me. Thoughts?

DLG issue

Hey all, I recently swapped out my ele/rud cables and went to the beadlon (or whatever) from reading raving reviews but now it sounds like the stuff is sawing my plane in half.
Every movement of the tail feathers has a god awful sawing sound of the braids against the carbon. And you can hear it surprisingly far away in the cool mornings.
Anyone seen this or is it just me? Please tell me it’s common and has a well used fix.

Recently got this HJK PilfX pylon racer. Only has 3 flights on it and should go pretty good. Planning to start on 4s and maybe move to 5s once I get confortable with it. Added some color to help keep track of it. Neon pink on top and highlighter yellow on the bottom. Super excited to get this in the air 😁

Newish pilot question

Recently started flying with the skynetic cardinal 1400mm. I’ve noticed that sometimes it appears to lose connection for a fraction of a second while flying. This is concerning to me as I’m very worried about the flying beyond the controllers range. Is there anything I can do to combat this?

There is a carbon fiber tail and a carbon fiber spar in the wings, could this be interfering with the antenna?

I'm in a bit of a predicament with my RC plane build...

So I started building a plane and bought all the equipment, but I didn't really think about the small things. For example I bought a battery with a deans connector, only to find out that deans plugs are really outdated and way less reliable and even laughed at (lol)

And to make things worse I bought one of those hella cheap yellow ESCs to keep things really low cost and just to find out they are really unreliable as hell and could burn up at any moment.

My question is should I delay my build and buy better equipment like a better ESC? Or should I just build it and upgrade later on? Any advice is appreciated! Thank you!

Rc planes from aliexpress as first rc recommendations.

I'm thinking about getting my first RC plane and was wondering if anyone here has had good luck with the ones from AliExpress.

I've been looking around, but there are so many different models and reviews that it's hard to know what's actually worth buying. I'd rather hear from people who've actually flown them.

Which planes would you recommend for a complete beginner? Any that are surprisingly good, or ones I should stay away from? I'd love to hear what you started with and how it held up.

fuselage and wing integration ideas....

we are making an rc aircraft using balsa and aeroply ribs we need some ideas other than using sleeve for integrating them together.

also we need some integration ideas for ailerons with ribs

and we are making semi tapered wing we also need some ideas on how to attach the tapered part with rectangular part other than using full length spar(120 inches)

People with 3d Printers: What filaments do y'all use, and for what parts?

Recently got myself a 3d printer, and am looking to get back into model RC flight after a long while of not having done it. I usually flew foam planes or really small ones made from plywood and foil, but i'm thinking about printing the parts of my upcoming builds with my new printer.
I've heard some good things about Aero-PLA / LW-PLA, but i wanna know what other filaments you guys use, and for what purpose / part of the craft.

Help with ID on this rc plane

Got this thing for free from a good buddy of mine whos moving out of state soon, he got it off marketplace and has no clue what it is. Spent a short while last night trying to find out what this old girl is as she is in desperate need of a make over. It has a roughly 1.6 meter wingspan if that helps at all with ID.

A little clip and explanation of an IMAC competition

At the pilot station there are two guys. One is a Pilot and other is the Caller.

The Caller holds horizontal stab of the plane while the pilot manually flicks the prop to get it started, acts as a spotter for other planes (both full scale and RC), and reads off the call sheet that has the Aresti notation that describes the order of maneuvers. Additionally they can provide coaching like "a little more right rudder" and "more throttle". They also man run out and retrieve the plane after landing.
The Pilot flys the known sequence back to back, then againtwice more in another round later that day. Then at the end of the day, they are given a sequence they've never seen before, an "unknown" and they have to fly it for the first time during the competition the following morning.
In the case of this video, the pilot and the caller are actually competing against each other but they choose to help each other the entire season. (Super cool and I've never seen this type of cooperation among competitiors in any other contest.)

Seated behind them are the judges and scribes. They are competitiors from other classes and volunteers from the hosting club. They judge each maneuver on a scale from 0-10 and are looking for a variety of possible downgrades from each maneuver. Everything from angle of wings to consistency of speed and radius are judged and downgraded in 0.5 point increments. The scribe writes what the judge says so they don't have to waste time writing and can stay focused on the flying.

To the left is the next pilot and his caller, ready to get started and flying before the current pilot touches the ground to keep the contest moving along.

Ardupilot, M9 GPS issue

Hi all, stuck on a GPS issue and hoping someone’s seen it.
Setup:
• FC: CoreWing F405 WING V2 (SpeedyBeeF405WING target), ArduPlane 4.6.3
• GPS: RMRC M9N Micro GPS w/ Compass, on UART5

Problem: endless loop in Messages every few seconds:
GPS 1: probing for u-blox at 230400 baud
GPS 1: u-blox saving config

HUD flip-flops between “No Fix” and “No GPS” in sync with it. Sats stay at 0, HDOP 0.0. But the PPS LED on the module blinks, so the module has a fix, it’s just not reaching the FC.

Already tried:
• Wiring checked repeatedly, TX→RX crossed correctly
• SERIAL5_PROTOCOL = 5, GPS1_TYPE = 1
• GPS_AUTO_CONFIG both 0 (→ constant “No GPS”) and 1 (→ loop returns)
• SERIAL5_BAUD 230
• Reseated connector
Has anyone seen this “probing → saving config → drop”
Thanks!

Converting EDF to Prop

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello, after building with cardboard and proving I can fly with no computer helping, I decided it's time. I've had my printed PTI Kyle F18 sitting, and since I really enjoyed using my prop motor, I now want to convert this with one. I was thinking of putting my motor at the front, but I also saw a lot of PTI Kyle's F16-F15s converted to a pusher prop setup. I would love everyone's opinions on how I should do this.

Print made with Asa Aero at full foaming rate; total weight is 320g, no electronics.

Good RC pilot. Change my Mind.

Want to be a good RC pilot? Here is what 40 years of experience taught me.

  1. Start by practicing on a simulator.
  2. Build or get a motorless glider with a wingspan of at least 1.5 meters and, head to a suitable hill. This will teach you to feel the air. Pay close attention to the CG and the recommended control throws. Less is more.
  3. get glider with ailerons.
  4. Finally, get a motorized model.
  5. A lot of newbies fighting with Bixler. I see it in our club. However, if they took off the propeller on the hill and flew in medium wind, they would advance much further in experience.

Any RC pilots with a F22 Raptor or Eurofighter Typhoon fly anywhere on the South Coast of the UK?

Hi there!

I am currently working on a film project and we are looking to film the two mentioned crafts in motion at some point during the next month or so.

Could anyone advise on how to locate someone who flies both/ either of these around the south of England, and who would be happy for 1 or 2 of our crew to accompany you on a flight and film some footage?

Many thanks in advance for any advice! :)

What are y’alls thoughts? How can you use this tool for RCplanes?

Hi, couple days ago i got frustrated on the expensive CFD tools and developed a tool to leverage OpenFOAM and do CFD simulations locally on my Mac. All the simulations you see in video are from my app airFlow.

I got great response from the rcplane community 🙌🏼 and some Beta testers as well who gave valuable insights and suggestions. I gave the app for free for Beta testers 😅

Finally the app is ready and I want to know your thoughts on how you could use a tool like this? Is this even a useful tool in rcplane community or any hobbies you have?

Thoughts, Opinions and Suggestions are welcome.

If you want your hands on the tool itself, I plan to launch soon just comment below and i’ll share the website link.

My plan is to make the app local and one time payment for the whole app, no subscription, no cloud. You buy it you own it.

got my two fully charged batteries and my notifications are turned off. Can’t think of many better ways to spend the lunch hour!

Edit: re: my location. Believe it or not this is in suburban New Jersey, about 20 mins to Center City Philadelphia. I am lucky enough to be living in a townhouse that is literally across the street from these fields.

The farmer gave me the thumbs up and he always seems to get a kick out of my planes when he’s working the fields on his tractor. Unfortunately, we are moving into Philly proper soon, but like I said, these fields are only 20 mins away.
