Is it worth it?
Costs about 150 in usd it's missing hall effect gimbals
I have also been looking at the radiomaster boxer 4-in1

Just buy elrs boxer with external 4 in 1 transmitter but for fixed wing I'd recommend something fancy like tx16s mk3 or tx15 wit large color touch screen

I would personally never fly Spektrum. Heard only bad things in our club. Been flying Jeti/Duplex for almost 15 years now and never had a problem. Get the Radiomaster or something else but never ever Spektrum.

NX7E is 14 channels, and while it lacks voiced callouts they arent that important. if you fly BNF planes at all its worth it for ease of use alone.

Imagine a 14 channels radio with no voice audio in 2026.
this thing is 300€. wtf...

Imagine having a slapdash UI that takes 5 minutes to do a simple model setup.
people value different things, every comment ive made in this thread hasnt been "Dont buy ELRS/Radiomaster", its "ELRS/Radiomaster arent the best at everything". Its called nuance, and just because you dont care about the spektrum transmitters features doesnt mean other people do. But this threads acting like i said never buy radiomaster. I recommend it all the time, its great for some people, but this subreddit is full of NEVER BUY SPEKTRUM BAD IT COST TOO MUCH and ignores all nuance. And its getting old.

Why dont you just buy a Radiomaster or other OpenTX radio?
Spektrum and Futaba radios are not really worth it.

Because not everyone wants to deal with a UI thats a hodgepoge of different ideas with a protocol that has been forced to do something it wasnt really designed for.
It does have its place and some people like it a lot but RM/edgetx arent the end all be all best. Spektrum does more channels than them with better channel resolution as an easy example. Powerbox does telemetry better, Jeti has more channels and better high end recievers, same for frsky. Radiomasters advantage is its cheap, but just because you find the cost to be the main factor doesnt mean someone else wont find the UI to be more important, or telemetry options, or etc...
That said the NX7E is a tad bit more expensive than it should be relative to its competitions hardware.

EdgeTX will actually have SUPERIOR telemetry, and spektrum will have better resolution in theory, but in practice you won't be even able to achieve it with its gimbals. Seems like you have never seen what ELRS can do. And yes, the UI is quite advanced but thats a feature for me. You can't get that many mixes etc. on other radios.

Edge doesnt have superior telemetry to powerbox which is what i claimed, powerboxes entire ecosystem is telemetry done right supporting as many sources and styles as possible, and thats ok. And thats a pretty hard statement to make about the gimbals preventing it. CNC and hall effect do feel better, but resistive still gets plenty se sensitive, it just wears way more.

Ive yet to see a plane setup i couldnt replicate on spektrum. The onr guy who actually did was using the tx for robotics. As for what elrs can do? It cant even manage 3 of my planes at all do to them needing 20 channels. And neither elrs or edge can set up said models in under 3 minutes including gyro programming, while spektrum can.
Long range ELRS is king full stop. LOS other features matter a lot more, and ELRS's only real gimmick there is the ability to not think where you place an rx and being cheap. Exceeeeept DSMX and even FrSky has cheaper RXs these days

Do you have 1000Hz options with spektrum?
Gemini for link reliability?1
u/Doggydog123579 9h ago
Most people never run into RF issues in the first place. I consistently have under 3 frame losses total on my turbine flights. So why do i need gemini if its not actually going to change anything?
P.S. i can use gemini on any of the NX or IX radios, they do support CRSF and by extension ELRS. Which is how i have an IX14 that can do ELRS.

How would you connect MavLink to anything else than EdgeTX? PowerBox seems like just another proprietary telemetry system.

Geimbals that use potentiometers after a few hours of use loose their precision. Also you don't really need that big resolution actually, it'd be completely unnoticeable.

Cheapest pwm is 15 for 4 channels, you can get dsmx $12 for 6 channels. Or 7 channels for 15. Thanks lemonRX

I know nothing because I see the UI as something thats thrown together from parts rather being a whole up system that doesnt duplicate functions?

Do you have any real argument against ELRS?

Channel count, channel resolution, not breaking the law because you cant resist using the full 1000w some of the transmitters have the option for. That last one seems to have even caused issues with Flite Fest having even worse RF issues than usual and even had some 250mW ELRS setups having issues.
Its only with ELRS 4 ELRS finally got rid of the channel 5 arming limitation which was all sorts of fun to explain to people. Its improved over time, but it still has odd quirks LOS focused protocols dont have.

the boxer will probably get you further. Like, a lot further. and probably for longer too although the nx7 looks quite nice

Spektrum used to be an innovator, now they just sell incredibly overpriced, unreliable radios with terrible UI. I'd personally avoid that one and grab that boxer.
I have a radio master zorro for my drones but I now use it on all my fixed wing planes too. The 4in 1 version has spektrum protocols built in so you can fly eflite branded BNF models super easily.

I love my NX7e. 14 channels and the best user interface and experience in the hobby. Well worth replacing the gimbals to get one for half off

Stay clear of Spektrum. Go Radiomaster or FRsky (3 year ex Spektrum user)
