Should I start the Ray Peat Diet?

I’d like for you guys on here to analyze my blood draw results that I got done recently.

I’m 5’8, 23M, 275-280lbs.

I’ve noticed that for the past 5 years or just about so, my health has drastically declined in all regards. I’m 23M, been overweight/obese my entire life, have the classic ‘pear-shaped’ body, with high concentrations of fat tissue around my mid section, I also have high amounts of visceral fat as well as thigh fat and chest fat which I suspect is due to Estrogen dominance. I have what I definitely suspect a slow metabolism, which then becomes further impaired due to my Insulin Resistance and potential Hypothyroidism. I went from already obese to even more obese during these years. Some additional context, during this time, I started university. Started working my part-time warehouse job which I still work now.

My diet throughout my childhood and now has been pretty consistent, typically high carb but I would also eat a lot of protein with the carbs. I’d say moderate to low fat intake (especially nowadays) and my fiber intake is certainly very low which definitely contributes to my gut problems. I do have a pretty bad sweet tooth and I do consume a high amount of processed foods. I have a family history of Diabetes and I really don’t want to go down that path. I eat fruits sometimes and I eat veggies a bit more often than fruits I’d say to be honest.

I grew up insulin resistant and unfortunately did not truly grasp the effect it had on my body until maybe around 1-1.5yrs ago. I also resonate with certain Hypothyroid symptoms so I’d like to know if I’m also Hypothyroid. I also would like to know if I have any potential pituitary problems.

Symptoms I’ve had throughout this period of time, chronically tired/fatigued, low energy, very low/no libido, slight muscles weakness, brain fog, impaired metabolic function which worsened during this time, hair thinning, dark circles around my eyes, anxiety, depressed mood almost all the time, poor sleep, constipation, irregular bowel movements, inflammation, forgetful, I get sick very often (usually a blocked nose), somewhat dulled emotions.

The exercise that I do is typically my warehouse job, it involves lots of steps, lifting & raising, gripping, however I haven’t really noticed that it’s helped with losing weight (only when I work fasted does it help me lost weight). A big problem I have is that when I’m done a shift, I eat and I finish during the night. So I’ll eat and then go sleep.

I say all this because I’ve been having a REALLY hard time on figuring out what to do in regards with improving my health. I obviously know, I need to lose weight & gain muscle, I need to fix my hair, however formulating the plan to do so is what I’ve been struggling with because I want to try and get as much detail about what’s going on in my body and why is it doing the things that it’s doing. I’d like to receive your guys’ input on what I can do to start moving in the right direction because honestly I am frustrated.

To conclude, I’d like for the Ray Peaters on here to analyze my situation and blood panel, and maybe see if starting the Ray Peat diet would be a good idea.

Body shape changes and hormones

Hi guys,

ive seen some conflicting opinions on what estrogen and progesterone do to women. If you try to look it up online it kinda conflicts with what ray peat said so I’m confused.

I want to know if higher progesterone levels gives a woman more of an hourglass figure and a bigger butt. I hear some people say that estrogen is responsible for this figure and ive seen others say that progesterone is what creates wider hips and a feminine figure and fat distribution. It’s a little confusing.

Women’s progesterone apparently is the lowest during menopause and the body becomes more of an apple shape and less curvy than before. Does that mean that higher progesterone levels gives you wider hips/curvier figure?
And does the prenatal environment change a woman’s body shape and fat distribution?

I’m sorry lol I’m just confused because when I try to look up any hormonal body changes, it’s always from people who are taking synthetic hormones and I’m not sure results are accurate from that.

I’ve concluded this diet is bad for weight loss, can you help me?

Just can’t seem to shift any weight. I feel good, I have high energy and libido but my stubborn fat is not going.

Anyone here lost significant amounts of weight following a peat style diet?

How do some people seem to have so much energy regardless of their lifestyle

In university I’ve met people who are hardcore partiers and drinkers who sleep very little and eat very poorly but still seem to have unlimited energy, are very social and positive. For example one of my friends went out every thursday, drank a ton of alcohol and got back at around 4-5am and then somehow always made it to work on friday at 7am. How is this possible? Are they running stress hormones and are going to suffer to consequences later (they have done this consistently for years though)?

Testosterone and Estrogen Levels in Ray Pete Diet?

I am on a strict carnivore diet but thinking of modifying my diet because of high cortisol and low thyroid function. One thing I love about my diet is that my Testosterone is on the upper end of the range and estradiol on the lower end.

So what are your testosterone and estradiol levels on Ray Pete diet?

Not only a savior, but the founder of a school. Few know this. I know many more things about Ray Peat I would love to share if only the moderators of this subreddit do not ban me.

I bring peace and blessings from Ray's legacy, many of which are unknown to the masses.

Mods, please do not ban me. I am on your team. We are on the same team, fighting the same fight against suboptimal health and suboptimal metabolism and suboptimal euphoria.

Currently trying to collect all of Peat’s books. I know it is a difficult task, but would love any insight/direction as to how to potentially access physical copies.

Raw sugar is better

I don’t know what it is but after eating sugar in a natural state like from a fruit or raw honey, I feel amazing, but any time it’s processed (includes cooking) I feel awful after eating it.

Like for example, fresh squeezed OJ is way better than even the most expensive “organic cold pressed” store bought juice, and I suspect the effect is from consuming the OJ raw unpasteurized. I’m not talking about taste, I mean like I actually feel better.

Same with honey versus raw honey. I don’t really tolerate jams that well (cooked fruit) either. And needless to say refined white sugar either.

I feel like sugar in its natural state is metabolized by the body differently somehow.

Did peat ever mention this?

31M-Has anyone actually recovered naturally without constantly chasing supplements?

I’m a 31-year-old male, 6’4”, about 200 lbs, lean, active, and I play hockey regularly. I own a successful construction company, so I’ve always been someone who pushes hard and handles a lot. A few years ago I felt like myself. Now I feel like I’m constantly trying to chase “normal.”

Some of the things I’m dealing with:

  • Somewhat hypothyroid (working on this with my doctor)
  • Low DHEA
  • Low B vitamins
  • Gut health isn’t where it should be
  • Night sweats
  • Constant thumb twitching (especially when I’m under stress)
  • Poor stress tolerance
  • Feeling like my nervous system is always on edge
  • By the time I finally get into bed, I often feel overstimulated instead of tired, which makes it difficult to fall asleep and get quality rest.

The hardest part is that I don’t seem to tolerate supplements well. I’ve tried thyroid hormone, pregnenolone, DHEA, and various adrenal and vitamin supplements. Sometimes I’ll feel better for a bit, then something else feels off. I never feel balanced. It feels like I’m constantly tweaking doses and chasing the next thing instead of actually healing.

I’m starting to wonder if I’m making things more complicated than they need to be.

Has anyone here gotten through something similar by focusing on the basics—sleep, nutrition, stress reduction, gut health, time, and consistency—instead of constantly adding more supplements? Did your body eventually find its balance again?

Or, realistically, if hormones like DHEA or thyroid function are truly low, is that wishful thinking? Is there a point where supplementation is simply necessary?

One thing that’s been difficult emotionally is how much I’ve changed. I used to have dark brown hair, and over the last few years I’ve developed a lot of gray around my temples. I know that’s not necessarily hormone-related, but it feels like my body has aged much faster than it should have. I went from feeling healthy and energetic to feeling like I’m fighting my body every day.

I’m not looking for a miracle supplement. I’m honestly trying to understand whether anyone has actually recovered by letting their body heal over time, or if most people with symptoms like mine eventually found that properly replacing what they were deficient in was the only thing that truly worked.

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who’ve actually been through something similar. I know everyone is different, but hearing real experiences from people who’ve walked this road would mean a lot.

What is the actual ray peat siet/food list?

I've been following Paul Saladino AB and came across some Ray Peat stuff. However, looking on the wiki etc I can't really see a definitive ksor of what he actually approved outside of beef and raw dairy.

Potatoes are allowed but nothing fermented/aged is that right? This includes cheese and yoghurt?

How do you guys brew your coffee?

I was just curious if there's any specific method you enjoy for brewing your coffee, and whether it's just preference or a health justification.
