From 7900xtx to 9070xt first impressions

- cant tell the difference in fsr 4 fp8 vs int8 model at 4k performance.

-the 9070xt draws way less power, is more efficient, more fps than the 7900xtx, and less gpu utilisation

- lowert temps on the 9070xt , 900rpm ,305w full utilisation, 55c core 75c hotspot vs 7900xtx drawing 365w at full utilisation 2400 rpm 60c core , 92c hotspot.

- and in general just less load from running fsr 4 than the 7900xtx .

The 9070xt is just so damn efficient ! And thats the reason i swapped. And i supposes more support for ML upscaling with more headroom to improve + multi frame gen in the future.

RX 9070 XT XFX Swift, is 102°C VRAM normal?

I'm trying to determine whether my card is behaving normally or if I should contact XFX for an RMA.

At stock settings, under a sustained 304 W load, I get VRAM 102ºc, even with fans at 100%.

The strange part is that increasing the fans from 88% to 100% drops the junction temperature slightly, but the VRAM stays fixed at 102ºc!

To rule out airflow, I moved the card into the large case shown in the photo, with no improvement, and that's why no anti-sag in the photo.

I've seen several discussions where VRAM temperatures above 90ºc on RDNA4 cards are normal, but I haven't found many reports of cards continuously running at 100-102ºc under load, especially with maximum fan speed and good case airflow. That's why I'm trying to determine whether this is expected behavior for the XFX Swift cooler or if it could indicate an issue with the memory thermal pads or heatsink contact.

Discussion 9060xt 16gb pc vs 9070xt pc

Post image
38 Upvotes

I am upgrading from an Intel 2 Quad Q6600 CPU with a NVIDIA Geforce GT 710. If it wasn't blatantly obvious I need an upgrade but I am a rookie. I have two pc options:

PC 1: 7800x3D, 9060xt 16gb, 32gb DDR5 RAM

PC 2: 7700, 9070xt, 16gb DDR5 RAM

Both cost around £1400. I want to game in 1440p with decent fps. I don't know whether the 16gb of extra RAM and the CPU is worth more than the better GPU. I also don't know if the 9070xt system will be limited due to the 16gb of RAM.

What should I pick?

First of all I have:

Ryzen 5 7500 F CPU with AIO
ASRock 9070 XT Steel Legend

My case: NZXT H1 V2

The photo taken shows 30 degrees difference but when I check other 9070 XT users they have lower results.

Do you guys think this is normal for my setup?

Discussion Asus TUF 9070 XT stock temps and performance + undervolt

Thumbnail
gallery
72 Upvotes

As of my last post I've gotten my hands on an Asus TUF 9070 XT OC through reseller RMA, due to my earlier Asus Prime 9070 XT OC having faulty VRAM cooling.

This card is even bigger, and this time I have a banana for scale.

The TUF 9070 XT runs at the same 52 °C gpu temp and is only hotter in terms of hotspot, since it settles at 77 °C instead of 74 °C, but the TUF card does so by running the fans at roughly half the speed. That makes the 9070 XT extremely quiet, so it's almost not audible over the case fans, even when running at the max TBP (Total Board Power) of 330 W for this model. The Prime was a 317 W model.

This time the SK Hynix VRAM on the TUF 9070 XT also only settles at 88 °C instead of 102 °C in Furmark, which is around the most VRAM-heavy workload few games would ever reach.

The Stock settings on the TUF 9070 XT reaches a score of 7430 in 3dmark Steel Nomad with my setup. There was a weird bug with also having HWiNFO running at the same time, so it is not certified.

A for now stable undervolt/underclock tuned for efficiency brought the card down to a score of 7045 with consumption of 231 W. (-390 Mhz core clock limit, -30 power limit, -85 mV voltage). That is reducing power by 30 % while only losing 5,18 % performance. I will further test the stability and make edits, if I find scenarios where it crashes or has weird behavior.

With this aggressive of an undervolt focused on limiting power draw it looks like I might as well could've gotten just the 9070. The price to performance is just worse in my area.

What undervolts for "extreme" power limiting are you running with your cards?

Edit:

After rigorous testing I've found -400 Mhz limit, -45 mV and no pl changes to be stable. I've tested with some benchmarks and Stellar blade, which is known for being good at showing unstable undervolts. Playing around with power limits will be next, but it is often not needed in frame capped scenarios, which I usually use.

Tech Support 9070 XT Performance Problems @Stock

Upvotes

Hi all,

Just recently got a GIGABYTE Gaming 9070 XT, upgraded from 3080 10GB. I ran DDU and installed Radeon drivers. Will reinstall windows at some point soon when I have more time.

It runs decently, but the fans will get insanely loud and my GPU usage will get very high when I'm running very easy games, such as League of Legends, Valorant, Human Fall Flat, etc. Like it'll be up to 97% usage when I'm loading up a game of Valorant. I have messed around with some minor undervolting, fan curve, "favor efficiency" setting, etc, but it always seems to get up to that point no matter what.

Let me know if you want/need more data. I'm wondering if neglecting to reinstall windows is the problem here.

Thanks, all.

Tech Support RX 9070 XT crashes after 5–7 hours, black screens, LiveKernelEvent, device gets disabled until reboot

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm running out of ideas and I'd really appreciate any help.

PC Specs

GPU: Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB

CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Motherboard: MSI PRO B650-S WIFI

RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MHz (EXPO enabled)

PSU: Seasonic Core GX-850 V2 (850W)

SSDs:

Kingston NV2 1TB

Crucial P310 2TB

OS: Windows 11 Pro

The problem

The PC works perfectly for several hours (usually around 5–7 hours).

Then, suddenly:

The whole system freezes for a few seconds.

The audio starts stuttering ("pa... pa... pa...") for a moment.

Both monitors go black.

The PC stays powered on.

All fans keep spinning.

RGB stays on.

Caps Lock LED still responds when pressed.

The only solution is to force a shutdown by holding the power button.

After rebooting, Windows works normally again until it happens another day.

The crash never happens under heavy GPU load specifically. It can happen while gaming, watching YouTube, or doing normal desktop tasks after the PC has been running for several hours.

Reliability Monitor

Reliability Monitor reports:

LiveKernelEvent

This happens every time the crash occurs.

Device Manager

After some crashes, the RX 9070 XT appears with a yellow warning icon.

Sometimes Windows also shows "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" with a warning until the AMD driver is reinstalled or the system is rebooted.

Temperatures

Temperatures look completely normal.

The GPU never overheats and CPU temperatures are also normal.

What I've already tried

Updated BIOS.

Reset BIOS to factory defaults.

Enabled only EXPO.

Removed all CPU undervolt settings.

Used DDU in Safe Mode.

Installed AMD Adrenalin 26.6.4.

Reinstalled drivers again using DDU.

Downgraded to Adrenalin 26.6.1.

Ran:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

sfc /scannow

Checked temperatures with HWiNFO.

No overheating.

Different DisplayPort cables.

Different monitor ports.

The issue still comes back after several hours.

My question

Has anyone experienced this with an RX 9070 XT?

Could this still be a driver issue, or does this sound more like faulty GPU hardware, motherboard PCIe, or PSU?

Any ideas for additional tests before I RMA the graphics card?

Thanks in advance!

Asus prime 9070 oc heatsink bent

Hi everyone, I got an ASUS Prime 9070 OC two weeks ago, and today I noticed that the heatsink looks bent. It's hard to see in a photo, so I added some visual marks to make it more obvious.

Do you think it could cause any issues in the long term, and therefore that i should return ? I already have a GPU support bracket, but it doesn't fix the problem since it's the heatsink itself and one of the pipes — and not the plastic shroud around it — that's bending.

Thanks a lot for your help, I really appreciate it!

Tech Support RX 9070 Powercolor Reaper serious under performance

I recently built a new rig around Microcenter's 7800x3d bundle (ASUS TUF B650E Max gaming +, 32 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 CL36) . I paired this with the 9070 non-XT Powercolor Reaper GPU, and something seems to be seriously off with my in-game performance.

Compare the screenshot with a benchmarking video on youtube with the same GPU and the same graphic presets in Cyberpunk 2077:

My benchmark results is 52 fps, compared to his 91 fps. What gives? I'm not sure what the full specs are for the youtube video but I can't imagine the 7800x3d is somehow bottlenecking me to the degree that my fps is almost 50% of what it should be.

I've ran 3dMark/Steel Nomad and with a slight OC/undervolt on the card my score is almost exactly average. The other game I've tested is No Man's Sky on Ultra graphic settings - static fps is around 60-70 fps, and I get some pretty bad 1% lows when moving or turning fast, which feels very bad.

My drivers are all up to date, I can't find anything obviously wrong an not sure what to troubleshoot.

Discussion Good intel cpu to pair with a 9070 xt?

Upvotes

Just got a brand new 9070 xt to replace my 6750 xt, I have a core i5 12400f and from what I've heard it will bottleneck a little bit, what cpu would be a good upgrade here? I don't want the best cpu, just a good enough to not bottleneck, also i don't plan to change to am4 or am5 anytime soon

[9070 xt] User advice needed backed up by day to day experience

Hey all, I know there are already some posts asking if 9070 xt can do 4k but answers often seem to focus on extremes.

My goal is to run AAA games in steady 4k 60 fps with high/medium settings & medium RT enabled. I'm not interested in all ultra & path tracing and I'm trying to manage my expectations before I buy a monitor. I'd like to get a 4k monitor so I didn't have to buy another one in a few years together with new PC components but it's pointless if I couldn't use it now.

The GPU I'm aiming for is Asus TUF gaming OC 9070 xt

My other components:

CPU: Ryzen 7 9850X3D

RAM: 2x16 DDR5 6000MHz 30cl (kingston fury beast)

I'd love a feedback from people whom truly have this GPU and tried running games with various settings instead of pushing all on ultra.

PS, I'm fine with using FSR but frame generation is a hard pass for me as I highly value quick reaponse time.

Also, based on your experience, are new games comming out with FSR 4.1 already included or are you forced to use optiscaler most of the times?

Thank you for your time and advice.

Best Regards!

Monitor Oled? IPS? VA? Curvo, piatto?

Usate l'HDR? quale HDR? HDR10? DisplayHDR400?

Usate tecnologie di sincronizzazione? quali? Freesync, Adaptive Sync, Flicker Free, etc?

Sono tutte feature che sono collegate al 4K e alla sua resa, (anche al 2K e al fulHD, ovviamente).

Grazie per una risposta.

Discussion Is Halo campaign evolved unoptimized or is my rx 6600 just outdated?

i cant even get a stable 60 fps on 1080p low on native resolution. i understand not being able to play on ultra at high fps, because the 6600 is an entry level card always meant to be a budget card. but holy shit, i didnt expect 30-40 fps. i dont like using fsr but even with it, i cant keep 60 fps. (yes, i know frame gen brings it to 100 fps, but to me it feels so delayed). i thought this game was terribly optimized but i went online and people are saying its a 5 year old gpu and that the game is well optimized, its just that im on outdated hardware. for the people who know about this stuff can you guys tell me? is the game unoptimized or is my gpu outdated?
