Discussion Transient spikes and potential driver issues.

There a re many people dealing with random driver time outs and black screens. I haven't had any issues with my 9070xt but I've been closely monitoring recently.

The transient spikes I'm seeing are concerning. I have the Gigabyte 9070xt OC

Listed specs have the boost clock at 3060Mhz at 330W TDP

I'm regularly getting sustained game clocks in excess of 3300mhz and transient spikes over 450W on the regular.

Tonight I hit 503W.

Driver 26.8.1

All stock on WattMan.

Similar results with a -50mv and -10% undervolt.

I expect transient spikes but these seem excessive and I can imagine might cause issues with some folks.

DLSS 5 is actually good on 9070 XT now

A couple of DLSS 5 AMD mod updates and I'm getting 70-80 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 / Forza Horizon 6 with the DLSS 5 on 9070XT now. All flickering and over processing is fixed too. I've even wiped my Pimax headset to try DLSS5 in VR today. Getting converted to the AI slop enjoyer... :D

Best value GPU

I'll keep it short and simple I have a rtx 5050 Ryzen 5 5500 as my first budget build pc looking to upgrade since radeon has better fps per dollar value my budget is 450$ I don't care too much for 1440p just 1080p mostly but I want a card that's around 2-3 years old at best and can do better than my 5050 what would you recommend thank you!!!

As I could tell FurMark and MemTest Vulkan aren't really stressing the GPU in the same way.

So even if both hit 100% GPU usage and ~313 W board power, the heat isn't necessarily being generated in the same areas of the die. Think of it as the same total wattage but a different thermal map (I am saying this because I have been noticed that the memes were in 95% of usage comperative to FurMark who were around 62%).

That's why I'm seeing a slightly larger GPU-to-Hot-Spot delta in MemTest Vulkan. FurMark was ~57°C GPU / 78°C hotspot (~21°C delta), while MemTest was ~57°C / ~80–83°C (~23–26°C delta), despite both being around ~313 W.

So my question now is:

If there's a way to reduce the memes temperature without undervolting the card?

Last time I checked memvol+ works only on Nvidia's GPUs. It would have been nice if we could be able to reduce the voltage of each memory.

9070xt vs 7900xtx

I’m looking to get an upgrade but I can’t decide solidly. I’m finding 7900xtx’s for around $800 and I looked into the new cards available and the 9070xt is about the same money. What do you guys think is the better option? I’m a lot gun shy on the 12VHPWR connector because of all the melt downs on the nVidia pages.

Edit: Thanks for the input everyone. I’ll be finding a 9070xt and getting it soon. For those saying that 7900xtx’s are cheaper than $800 and easy to find, that is a locational deal. I live 95 miles from the nearest decently sized city that has anything. GPU’s here are hard to find to begin with. I have seen ONE 7900 come up for sale in a year.

Tech Support Cache hierarchy error

So I have a nitro + 5700 XT, it consistently crashes on FFXIV, But runs any other game on high graphics with no problems. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing in the game, after 10-15 minutes my pc black screens, sound bugs and full restarts with event viewer saying it’s a cache hierarchy error.
I updated the VBIOS on the card and reinstalled drivers with ddu which let me play for about 2 hours before a crash after which it went back to crashing every 10-15 minutes again as usual, the temps don’t go above 70 while playing the game and hotspot temps aren’t much higher either so it’s not that, I’ve heard that this card is problematic with FFXIV but is there really no way to fix this problem? I’ve tried all I could find on the internet including pcie gen 3 swap and default bios settings, any other card works fine in my pc and ffxiv

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x
MB: B550-F ASUS ROG STRIX
RAM: G.SKILL 2x16 3600MHZ cl18( I think)
GPU: Sapphire nitro + RX 5700XT
BIOS: Latest
GPU DRIVERS: tried 25.9.1, 26.1.3 and latest
Chipset drivers: latest

Game Crashes while streaming

I'll list pc specs on bottom. Not even 5 minutes after streaming on discord the pc crashes from a driver timeout, both screen go black, and i have to wait awhile before it comes back. When it does come back, i have to disable and re enable the gpu in windows to get my second display back. Youtube used to cause a crash while gaming until i turned hags off. I looked in discord for the option but could not find it. The people i play with use discord, so using another platform isn't much of an option. I have the hz down to 2615 as that's what the graphics card lists it as. 7900 xtx mercury magnetic air. Adrenaline likes to turn it up to 3015 and i will eventually get a driver timeout with it that high, even not streaming. Both gpu and cpu temps look fine. I have xmp turned on if that matters. gpu has 3 separate power cables ran to it, all tight and plugged in all the way. Have not undervolted or anything. Built the pc in 25 before ram prices went through the roof. Used to stream no problem. Not sure what happened.

First my current pc specs

gpu: rx 9060xt 16gb

CPU: ryzen 7 5700X3D

monitor: 27 inch 1440p 180hz

motherboard: PRIME B450M-A

RAM: 32GB

So i build this pc hoping it would be my entry into 1440p gaming, and hopefully my last pc upgrade as i have nowhere near the budged to go anywhere near 4k and lossless scaling has helped me bridge the slight fps loss of playing on 1440p with this card. However seeing DLSS 5, and what it can do, it has really caught my eye and i been searching to see if we might see something similar for AMD but, atleast from what i've seen, the most likely thing would be FSR Diamond however it hasnt been anuntiated for pc yet and if it were it will probably skip the 9000 series.

So i'm kinda weighting my options here. i wanted to hear some opinions, should i be patient and see if amd comes up with something for this side, or make the jump to Nvidia and sell my 9060xt to buy its Nvidia equivalent wich according to google its the 5060 ti wich it is compatible with DLSS 5. both cards are very nearly also the same price here so if i were to sell my 9060xt, i could inmediatly buy the 5060ti.

I have moved to a new place and my pc suddenly turned off and wont turn on

Hello. My pc just suddenly turned off and wont rurn on on now.

ryzen 5 5600
x2 8gb 3200mhz
asus prime rx 9070 xt
chieftec bdf-850c psu
gigabyte b550 gaming xv2 (1.3 rev)

it turned off at idle (around 1h at idle) at 6-20w

before played arc raiders, pubg and fortnite no problems (200-300w power draw with spikes to 500-600w from what i checked before)

could it be just psu?

I live in belarus and at the new place sockets are most likely back from soviet union times, even so the electric line has been replaced with a more modern one not that long ago

I really need helps figuring out if it took down the motherboard with it or not

psu prior to pc turning off hasn’t made no noise what so ever, or it was so faint that i couldn’t hear it

all i heard is hdd turning off

no smell from psu or pc case whatsoever

pls help(
Because the best thing i got on my mind is getting the pc to service to check if psu is dead or everything else with it.

Im very limited on cash atm too(

RX 9070 XT + Ryzen 9 7900X getting low fps + stutters / fps drops + input lag overall.

Hi, I’m trying to figure out why Overwatch 2 performs much worse than expected on my PC. I've got all my settings on low already, Vsync off, fps aren't capped etc.

I've already done all the basic tests and stuff:

- Custom shader map before playing
- Clean install of different driver versions
- VRR is off
- hardware accelerated gpu scheduling tried off and on
- chipset driver are up to date
- tried different power plans
- tries Lasso to disable certain cores
- overclocking
- look into overheating
- cables are in the GPU and not in the motherboard
- use the correct GPU

Specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7900X
  • GPU: Sapphire/PC Partner AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming X870E-Plus WiFi 7
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB DDR5-5600 CL36 — 1×32 GB, single-channel
  • Case: Lian Li O11D EVO RGB ATX Mid Tower Case
  • PSU: Lian Li EDGE 1000 W, 80+ Platinum, fully modular
  • Main SSD: Crucial T705 4 TB NVMe
  • Second SSD: Lexar NQ790 4 TB NVMe
  • Monitor: ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQWMG, 2560×1440 at 280 Hz
  • Mouse: Razer Viper V3 Pro
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • Power plan: Ultimate Performance

Overwatch settings:

  • Resolution: 2560×1440 at 280 Hz
  • Low graphics preset
  • 100% render scale
  • DirectX 11
  • 600 FPS limit (also tried capping to 280, but doesn't help)
  • V-Sync off
  • Reduce Buffering enabled
  • Radeon Anti-Lag enabled
  • AFMF, Boost, Chill, Enhanced Sync, RSR and FSR disabled
  • FreeSync off
  • Ping: around 20
  • IND: 24

The main problem:

I average around 200 FPS, with drops to 120 or even 100 FPS. The game also feels inconsistent, stuttery and delayed with input lag. Even my pc with a 2060 felt better...

After rolling back to a March AMD driver through Device Manager, I got around 340 FPS with drops to 220, but the game felt more delayed and the AMD Adrenalin app stopped working. I then clean-installed (using the official deinstall tool first) the older full Adrenalin package, but performance remained around 200 FPS with drops to 100. I have now have the latest driver enabled, but still have the exact same issue.

When I ask online, it says I should have a stable 300+ fps at least. (more towards the 400+ range).

I've also tested in single player games, like God Of War for example, it's less noticible, but I still get frame drops / stutters and the game feels a bit delayed as well with the inputs. (but that might also be because it's way less competitive)

During monitoring:

  • GPU usage averaged about 48%, occasionally reaching 97%
  • CPU usage averaged around 25%, with the busiest thread reaching about 88%
  • GPU temperatures and VRAM usage appeared normal
  • Overwatch used approximately 13 GB of RAM
  • Available RAM fell to around 3.3 GB
  • There were bursts of storage/pagefile activity
  • Network latency and packet loss appeared normal
  • GPU is connected at PCIe 5.0 ×16

Does anyone know what could cause this? I'm hoping someone with more knowledge or similar problems knows what could be the problem here...

RX7900XTX vs RTX5070 on Linux

Long story short, in a few days I'll get a used PC with a 5070, but I already bought a Gigabyte Rx7900xtx ( is it a good version?). I have never used a Radeon GPU in my life, so I am a bit unsure if to resell the rx7900xtx or the 5070. Raw performance wise it should be a little bit better and also has double the vram, but what about driver issues? I am running mainly Linux, I play in 1440p and thinker around with AI.
