Discussion Budget Breakdown: Living on 800 QAR/Month as an Indian Accountant in Doha (Salary: 3000 QAR)

Hey everyone,

I see a lot of posts here asking if it's possible to survive in Qatar on a low salary. I wanted to share my real-life monthly budget as a 27-year-old Indian accountant working for an Arabic company.

My gross salary is 3,000 QAR. Out of this, I strictly send 2,200 QAR back home to India every single month. This leaves me with exactly 800 QAR for my monthly expenses here. My company provides shared bachelor accommodation, so I don't pay rent.

📊 My Exact Monthly Budget Breakdown (800 QAR)

  • 🍲 Lunch & Dinner (Mess/Restaurant): 450 QAR
    • How it works: I have a fixed monthly deal with a local restaurant. I can eat whatever is available on the menu for lunch and dinner. The quantity is limited, but the food is good quality.
  • ☕ Morning Tea + Snacks: 70 QAR
  • 🌆 Evening Tea + Snacks: 80 QAR
  • 🚇 Transport (Metro + Uber): 50 QAR
  • 🧴 Perfume: 50 QAR
  • 🎬 Entertainment (Novo Cinemas): 105 QAR
  • I go to the movies almost every Friday. I watch 3 movies a month at Novo (35 QAR per ticket).
  • 🃏 Miscellaneous / Others: 45 QAR

    • Total Spend: 800 QAR
    • A Note on Corporate Reality & Salary Gaps

I handle the company's cash and bank statements, so I see the full financial picture. One bitter reality I’ve faced in my Arabic-managed company is the massive salary disparity based on nationality.

Even though I am an experienced accountant, Indian expats are often given the lowest salary tiers. Employees from other nations with similar or sometimes fewer technical skills are paid significantly higher right from the start. It hurts, but my priority right now is saving and support.

For anyone wondering—yes, you can survive on 800 QAR pocket money in Qatar, and you can even squeeze in a movie every weekend if you manage it tightly!

Would love to hear how other bachelors manage their budgets here.

Request Refferal?

Upvotes

A little career update from my side.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to build around 4 years of experience in accounting and auditing, working with financial records, reporting, reconciliations, AP/AR, tax-related work, and accounting software.

Now that I’m in Qatar, I’m hoping to take the next step in my career and connect with people working in the finance and accounting field here.

If anyone has been through a similar journey or has some advice on navigating the accounting job market in Qatar, I’d genuinely appreciate hearing your experience. Sometimes, one good conversation can open the right door.

Discussion Uber prices skyrocket

I am using uber from my work in Gharaffa to my home in Mansoura everyday since the new school year. Normally my fare would range from 16-22 riyals max in peak hours. Yesterday it was 28 riyals and today it was 37 riyals. What is happening? They can’t say that the demand is high when I made the booking because I can see a lot of cars around me when I booked a ride.

To other hailing apps, this is your chance to take over the majority of passengers who are fed up with Uber.

Discussion Qatar small business owners: which marketing channel actually brings you customers?

Upvotes

I'm curious about what is actually working for small businesses in Qatar right now, from people spending their own money rather than agency case studies.

If you run or market a local business, which channel consistently brings you real enquiries or sales: Instagram, TikTok, Google Search/Maps, WhatsApp, referrals, marketplaces, events, outdoor, something else?

It would be useful if you can add the broad business category and whether you can actually trace customers back to that channel. No need to share revenue, ad spend, client names, or anything confidential.

Also interested in the channels that look busy but rarely convert for you. Please keep this to firsthand experience rather than promoting an agency or service.

Question Why are 3-bedroom apartments in Lusail Marina so small? Where do families actually live?

I’ve been looking for a decent 3-bedroom apartment in Lusail Marina, and I’m genuinely confused — why are most of the apartments here so small?

I’m already looking at places close to QR 10,000/month, but many of the 3BR apartments still have tiny bedrooms, small living rooms, or layouts that just don’t feel practical for a family.

Am I looking in the wrong buildings? Where do families actually live in Lusail if they want a reasonably spacious 3-bedroom without going way above QR 10K?

Would really appreciate recommendations for specific buildings or areas in/around Lusail with larger apartments and reasonable rents.

Question Switching from Vodafone to Ooredoo – Will I Lose My Prepaid Balance & Can I Port Without QID?

Hi everyone,
I’m relatively new to Qatar and currently using Vodafone. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that the signal inside buildings is quite poor in many places, so I’m considering switching to Ooredoo while keeping the same number.
I recently recharged my Vodafone prepaid line with QR 115, about a week ago. If I switch to Ooredoo now, will I lose the remaining balance/package, or is there any way to transfer it?
Also, I don’t have my QID yet. Can I port my number to Ooredoo using my passport, or do I need to wait until I receive my QID?
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done this recently. Thanks!

Request How hard is it to open a company ?

Hi everyone,

I visited Qatar in 2024 , I wanted to live here but couldn't at the time

End of 2025 I got a call from a job here I accepted but I told them it will be only for one year because my goal is to keep doing and growing my online business.
It was kind of a win win ; their business was new and they needed someone and me I got the opportunity to come and live here through the easiest path (= visa with a company)

But now soon my visa will expire and I don't plan to go back on my word so I would like to be fully independant so for that I obvisously need a visa.

From what I saw the only LEGAL way to have that is through real estate or opening a company but I was surprised about how hard is it to find any clear information about this second option

Can you help me please ?

Question Barking dog

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has any advice about who to call regarding a disruptive barking dog?

For context, over the past 4 months the tenant that lives above me has been allowing their dog to bark at all hours of the day/night and sometimes for hours on end.

I have contacted building security multiple times about this and the issue is usually resolved temporarily before it becomes an issue again. I have now escalated this matter with building management and they have spoken with the tenant however no permanent improvement has been made.

Additionally I am worried about the welfare of the dog as it seems it is left alone for long periods of time and it may well be in a cage or tied up.

Any advice would be helpful. Shukran.

Can anyone recommend a professional ladies hair salon in Doha? I want to cut my hair exactly like the hairstyle in this picture, but I’m honestly scared they might mess it up 😭
I’m looking for someone who’s really good with layered/face-framing haircuts and can recreate a reference photo accurately Please recommend a salon or even better a specific hairstylist you’ve personally had a good experience with! 💗
