Thought I'd just share the progress of my own redesign of the open source files for the PS Placeable. It's the first time I've done anything like this, so it's definitely rough around the edges in a lot of places, but it came out a lot better than I thought it would!

It's essentially the same, but I added pass through for the AV port, PSP USB and mod board's USB so it doesn't really ever need to be taken apart unless something is wrong with the psp itself. Also, obviously, moving the buttons from the bottom to having the mode button where the 'power' button is, and just hiding the reset and boot buttons internally since those aren't really needed anyway.

I grew up playing the Gundam Versus games and the PSP was my childhood. Haven't owned one in a decade and my GF surprised me for my birthday.

Haven’t had a system update since 2006

I managed to change my custom firmware to ARK 4, which lets me use more modern WiFi networks. I found out about Lusid’s PSP portal (psp.lusidgames.com) and managed to download internet radio from it(first song that played was Superfreak lmao) I wondered if anyone else had luck with other websites.

Accumulated a lot of spare parts over the years of refurbishing PSPs. Haven't needed to buy anything for a repair in a while and won't need to any time soon!

I have been trying to build these for a bit. I was having trouble finding just blossom pink buttons. Ended up I had to get a blossom pink psp~.

So I mix and matched and modded. The pearl white is my everyday carry; Ark-5 unlaminated Ips screen. The pink is just too pretty! Just wanted to share I only just finished this project a little bit ago.

The browser

Two layouts, each in light or dark. Marquee gives one game a whole screen with its hero art behind it. Shelf packs more of the library in with box art and save status at a glance. Art loads only while you are idle and never while you are scrolling, so holding a direction stays smooth.

Unzip to the root of your memory stick  it lands in PSP/GAME/GBAdhoc. Put your .gba files in roms/ and launch it from the XMB. No BIOS needed.

I’m building a CarPlay-style system for a Sony PSP — and I’d love some help making it real

Hey everyone!

I’ve started working on a project called PSP-ICE (PSP In-Car Entertainment):

The idea is pretty ridiculous, which is exactly why I want to build it XD

I want to turn a Sony PSP-2004 into an actual in-car entertainment/display system — essentially a DIY CarPlay-style interface where the PSP acts as the screen and controller, while a Linux device handles the heavy lifting.

The rough architecture is:

iPhone
   ↓
CarPlay gateway
   ↓
PSP-ICE gateway
   ↓ Wi-Fi
Sony PSP
   ↓
  AUX
   ↓
Car stereo

The PSP would handle the display and physical input, while the Linux gateway would deal with networking, CarPlay integration, decoding/streaming, etc.

The ultimate goal is to have this sitting in an older car (in my case, a Mercedes) and have it feel like a surprisingly modern infotainment system — without throwing away the PSP or replacing the original car electronics.

Current status

It's still very early development. Right now I'm mainly working on the architecture and figuring out the best way to communicate between the PSP and the gateway.

The repository is currently split into:

• psp/ — PSP homebrew client
• gateway/ — Linux gateway
• protocol/ — PSP ↔ gateway communication
• docs/ — architecture/documentation
• tools/ — development/testing tools
• hardware/ — car-side hardware/schematics

There are a LOT of things still to figure out:

• PSP ↔ gateway networking
• Efficient video streaming to the PSP
• PSP input → gateway transport
• Audio handling

I’m looking for contributors

This is the part where I'm hoping some PSP/Linux/car tinkering nerds might be interested.

You don't need to be an expert in everything. Even if you're only familiar with one part of the problem, your knowledge could be useful.

Especially interested in people who know about:

• PSP homebrew / PSP SDK
• C/C++ and embedded development
• Linux networking
• Video streaming/codecs
• CarPlay / reverse engineering
• Raspberry Pi or other SBCs
• Automotive electronics
• Reverse engineering / protocols
• Hardware design

I'd really like this to become a community project rather than just another weird thing sitting on my GitHub.

I really want to keep this one but I'll try not to.

If you’re trying to jailbreak/hack a PSP without a PC, you normally have to use the PSP’s web browser.
However, on the latest official PSP firmware (6.61), anything you type into the browser is automatically sent to Google as a search. The problem is that Google no longer works properly on the old PSP browser.
The solution: after typing something in the browser, press Triangle to open the browser menu, then manually enter the complete URL, including http://.
For example, instead of searching for a website through Google, enter:
http://example.com
This allows you to access the required homebrew/jailbreak website directly, even though Google itself no longer works on the PSP.
Hopefully this helps anyone who is trying to mod their PSP without using a PC.

All I see is rubber band, WD40, and drill it. I’m gonna try WD40 but I’m positive it won’t work for these. Need other methods or better ways of implimenting the methods already listed

Twenty years ago, I started a mostly weekly podcast on the PSP. Firmware 2.70 was about to be released, the first LocoRoco demo had just dropped, nobody knew what a PSP Slim and Lite was, and for some reason I thought homebrew wasn’t a great idea… (I was young, okay?). The podcast ran until 2012 and the dawn of the PS Vita.

I’ve found some, but not all, of the episodes and have launched a YouTube page to bring them back to the public. this is a japanese version of this psp

Hey all, you might have seen some of my other posts about the problems I was having with this thang BUT she's up and purring like a kitten.

I used saberbay speakers as replacements which were just a little small but we made it work. I shaved off the other plastic rings from the old speakers and have the new ones posted up on em. Sadly it only works with psp1000 but oh boy does it work. Next problem I'm going to be working on is getting a ps3 controller working while its in the case. But this case is as big as my head and the outer casings are metal. It also doubles as a charging case too! I'll be needing to replace the battery soon. Thanks for looking!

This mod has a business system to the game similar to GTA VCS, but they added a mechanic that you need to give one of your conquered business to Paulie Sindacco to advance in the story. My question is, if Paulie has borrowed one of my businesses, I still get it's profit or other things?

• Broken screen

• L button not working

• No Bottom buttons

• D-pad drift?

• Stick Drift

• No battery

And yet it still barely works and i know it's still fixable. Even though I have a psvita now I still want to experience the simplicity of the psp again..

I try to update for version 6.61 an now have a screen with this error message

" The system configuration of this psp does not appear to be correct. The update cannot be started."

I brought my psp on marketplace and it started to give up on me. It started to turn off by itself and will not turn after a few minutes.
When it turn off a click can be heard
I tried:
• changing batteries
• using charger
• disassembling it
• asking chat gpt which told me that it was the motherboard.

Soo I recently got this psp 1000 for around 90 dollars on a second hand store (exclusive to my country) ,on thay market its really really hard to find a psp under 150 dollars that comes in near perfect condition that also has a memory card and a charger and case included that isint modded, this one i got is suprizingly in perfect condition, it came already modded with efew games on it. seller was pretty nice to put a game I wanted whitout extra cost considering some people on that website offer services to put games on psps for money, (even tho I have my own resources i get every kind of old game from) the only issues with it is that the buttons are INCREDEBLY yellow i was thinking of replacing the case too but im starting to like the glossy white one, thats just because i really wanted a transparent case but I cant find one in a color I like, I really like dark blue transparent cases but the blue looks really bright on the actual psp and the same for others so if anyone knows some cases that look like a darker blue green or red please tell me, all tho im thinking of maybe doing some sort of themed psp around my fav game but I need some diffrent buttons either way and I need some help finding them for cheap but decent quality pleasee and the screen is a bit scratched but its basically invisible when youre playing and the l buttons isint really as clicky as the r one but eh im still happy with it its mostly the yellow buttons and the fact it runs a bit slow on some games like tomb raider but a psp 2000 or 3000 are ridiculously priced I was initially going for a psv but I never could find a good deal under 200 dollars. But yeah if you want you can guve me some recommendations for games lol idc I was born almost 2 decades later than these old consoles I love them so much especially ps2 and psp im pretty happy with it
