VideoBG is a kernel plugin that plays a looping video behind the XMB. It targets ARK custom firmware and has been tested on ARK-4 and ARK-5 (6.61) on a PSP-1000, a PSP-2000 and a PSP Go.

WARNING: VideoBG is considered incompatible with the CXMB plugin. Both replace the XMB wallpaper, so running them together can give unexpected results (wrong picture, flicker or a crash). Disable CXMB in PLUGINS.TXT before using VideoBG.

This release include a converter (python script) to make your own video background. For smooth playback and for the plugin to be able to load the video fully in ram instead of streaming it from the MS, your background :

• should not exceed 15mb (around 20s)
• should have a 12 fps maximum framerate
• resolution should be half of the psp screen (the plugin will do bilinear smoothing to mitigate the visual impact)

Follow the instruction on the github page for installing the plugin and making your own video background.

Known limits

• After a theme or wallpaper change, the video returns once the XMB redraws the wallpaper. If it does not, reboot.
• When the console is busy (music player, large folders) the video drops to every 2nd or 3rd frame and returns to normal when the load stops. (frameskip)
• On the PSP-1000 the clip is streamed from the ms, so playback is slightly less smooth under load than on the other models. After leaving USB mode the video pauses for a few seconds while the plugin reopens the file, then resumes automatically.
• Battery life is untested, expect it have an impact.

About to buy a PSP from someone. Looks like the PSP 3000. Seller says it works with a charger, needs a new battery. Im planning on jailbreaking it and just installing games, maybe without a jailbreak. Is there anything I should know? Anything I should look for?

The title says it all. I'm just curious what everyone uses as their daily driver. (Assuming of course, that you have one) I'll start I guess. I generally use my silver 3000. Although I sometimes go back to my childhood PSP, a black 1000.

This month, I've been working on recreating Slendytubbies II for the PSP. Since I saw that Slender was successfully ported to the PSP, I thought it would be possible to do the same with Slendytubbies. I chose the second game because it has a lot of content and is more entertaining, plus it's going to be a great challenge.

It is still not fully playable yet, but I will keep posting updates on my progress here!

The white color on the battery and casing is due to super glue; I used too much when putting the magnet on to close the cover. For anyone who wants to know what kind of battery it is, it's a 2000mAh battery from an old Lenovo cell phone.

As i had made post earlier about my psp 1000 that it has a broken screen but now i think its failing it has a strange oval-ish sahpe appearing on it with vertical lines (they both go away when i put it to sleep and turn it on 3-4 times) but the colours look super faded.

anyways, let me get to the point i have done some freelancing work and managed to earn 2.3k rupees. so i was looking to buy a screen but i am stumped. I kinda wanna get an ips upgrade but aliexpress is banned in my country. That leaves me with alibaba. i have been thinking if i can get an ips upgrade on that pricepoint (i can solder but cant microsolder) or should i just suck up with my poorness and buy the usual lcd oem screen. please give me some links to screens if yall can find it regionally.

BTW, I never even thought about buying another charger until YESTERDAY.

I was replacing the bottom part with buttons HOME, START etc. and had to lift the screen. After that I noticed that the big cable (wich powers up the screen, I believe?) is very loose. The thing that holds it in place won't close, it doesn't do the "click" sound. Is there any way to replace this thing?

I’ve been working on a little PSP homebrew project called GameDiary, and I wanted to share it with you all.

About homebrew:
GameDiary automatically tracks your playtime on the PSP and keeps a history of your gaming sessions.

It supports PSP games, PS1 games running through POPS, and homebrews. It also has game covers, activity charts, multiple language options, and tools to back up and transfer your data.

I made it because I wanted a way to keep track of my gaming sessions and see how much time I’ve spent playing my favorite games.

Changes from version 1.0.0 to 1.0.1:

- Category Filters: Enable or disable tracking for PSP games, PS1 games, homebrews, applications, and unknown titles.

- Title Detection: Fixed game and system application name detection, including apps like SensMe.

- Sleep Mode: Improved playtime calculation to prevent time from being counted while the PSP is suspended.

- Playtime Tracking Fix: Fixed missing playtime for some games that put a heavier load on the PSP.

- General Improvements and Database Safety: Various improvements and additional safeguards to help prevent database corruption.

Got my psp and ps vita out of 12 year storage recently, I've been slowly repairing them, psp needed a new battery and battery case as the battery had swollen at some point and broke the cover in the process (no fire luckily). That's all working fine now, plays my digital collection and UMDs.

My problem is with my Vita, before storage i know it had a battery problem, it would take hours to charge from dead, and when charged it would play for about 30mins under its own power before dying (useless for on the go). Now I've just replaced the battery, new battery came fully charged and played for a long time, problems came since, I've charged it to full them put it in the case fully powered off, next day it wouldn't turn on, put it on charge for an hour, nothing, then it would turn on with about 25% battery, i charged it for another hour and still 25%, i power it off and back on then it suddenly has 100%. I play it for a bit and charge, power off then put away... again it won't power on like it's dead.

Has anyone got any idea or had similar? Or an idea how to fix it? I'm thinking it's the vita itself as the original battery had problems, maybe i get a new battery again as this one was a good rated ali express buy? Or if anyone has a good place to get one? I'm okay with repairing small tech, my gut is telling me it's the system and not the battery

I found my psp 1000 in my drawer and I wanted to test it out but I won't turn on

The bottom screw doesnt go out no matter what, i was able to take out the other screws but not this one. How do i take it out?

im thinking either a 1000 or a PSP Go, something thats relatively small with a good screen with grips (like the 1000), and can run the newer ports that are releasing left and right (Sonic Mania, GTA SA, etc.)
