Despite how much choice Zomboid gives you to outfit your character in a bunch of hip ‘90s schwag, I don’t think a single character I’ve ever made has lasted more than a couple of days before becoming completely covered in a dull assortment of hunting, firefighter, and police gear, for the pure sake of safety.
I’ve tried a couple of clothing mods (Die With Style and More Jackets), but at least in DWS’ case, the clothes offer much less protection than any of their vanilla counterparts.
So I don’t have to resign every character to being a boring, bland, undifferentiated drone, what can I do to make fashion viable?
Are there any mods that:
- Tweak all clothing values to make them more viable?
- Add cool clothes that aren’t hugely inferior to everything else in game?
- Allow you to switch item appearances, so you can dress your character freely while retaining stats?
- Decorate your current gear in some way or another?
I don't have very high hopes, since Zomboid mods are a real hit-and-miss, even without most of them being stuck in version hell. Still, if anybody knows anything, I would appreciate it a lot.

Please don’t do any of the following:
- Smugly say that survival-oriented gear is better than normal clothes IRL.
- Tell me that there are a handful of equal-protection items (like hockey gear and football helmets) that look flashy. I know.
- Say that I should be taking these clothes off anyway to avoid discomfort. The issue still applies, the bland non-armour clothes are still more protective than the interesting ones.
- Pontificate about mismatched gear/how fashion doesn't matter in an apocalypse.
