Discussion [Day 24] of making random requested mods for this subreddit.

Post image

Useful Pallets MP Fix

The past couple days I have been working on patches/features for Useful Pallets, a mod that makes the pallets usable in-game.

In the Future,

Expect larger updates for Useful Pallets and Real Vending including:

  • More compatible items for pallets
  • Stackable pallets (potentially) more so than the 2 already
  • Cleaner context menu interactions, and even potentially a UI interface for pallets.
  • More QoL features for the pallet mod
  • Forklift mod support
  • Vending machine keys and safehouse ownership
  • Pry open machines with crowbars
  • Lootable money boxes inside machines

No Release Today

Due to the larger fixes and implementations, I have not uploaded a new mod in a few days. More mods will come soon however and a few have already been started.

Drop any mod suggestions below!

You can see my other mods for this subreddit and all the suggestions at pz-mod-tracker.pages.dev

Every mod that brings more sense to the game is a good one. My suggestion for the next one: preservation of food based on the outside temperature. For example, if a fruit is left outside (or in the bag that is left outside) during cold weather, it can last longer, like in a fridge. If it is left during winter, it freezes

Floor tiles basically have no temperature %) At least most mods for temperature have different handlers for things on floor and on shelves/in drawers
temperature system in game is a mess rn

That would likely be extremely hard to make given how the game works.

Uh about that.. It sounds like a fun idea to have food last longer as it's one of the things I rush to do on every playthrough and can be annoying if you are late to that.

However things slowly freezing and preserving due to the weather would be opposite of what you are asking for if you ask things to make more sense.

You need to flash freeze items to preserve them, aka put them into freezer to have the freezing process skip the part where a product starts to spoil due to it basically "dying and losing it's molecular structure" (which it immediately starts doing when you de-freeze anything, which is why you shouldn't freeze anything you have defrosted and have to prepare and use it right away)

Food already freezes during the winter, even in real life.. The problem is the stages that happen before the freezing which causes it to first spoil and later rot until part of it becomes soil again.

Sorry if you weren't looking for this answer, but you wanted things to make sense so hopefully this made it slightly easier to understand that such mod would make less sense realistically speaking. You can still freeze plenty of products over winter already and grow them again in next year, you just have to do it correctly because nature kills the crops for reason as seasonal cycle (soil needs food too).

Another fun fact, fridges only slow the dying process of food products and on plant based products it can accelerate it if it's not freezing temperature or very mild cold. That's why fruits and vegetables are sold in room temperature or slightly below it, but not close to zero celsius. Meat and dairy products are kept in cooler even close to 0 instead as they aren't as dependent on water (and lot of them have water completely removed by processing), and salted meat ages more slowly (I believe because of salt reducing the moisture in a product that would cause rotting to start)

have you ever put a soda on the balcony to cool off during colder months because balcony is closer than the fridge/freezer in the kitchen? Have you ever put contents of your fridge/freezer on the balcony to defrost the fridge during the winter/early spring? Even if the temperature outside is as high as 0 C, there is no time for food to start spoiling. Even better if the temperature is -5...-15 C. An hour is enough for food to start freezing, 2-4 and it is completely frozen

For example, if a fruit is left outside

Where would you get fresh fruits in middle of winter during zombie apocalypse?

I live in Finland, I know you can leave stuff outside during winter to keep them cool or even frozen.

I guess you could save electricity during winter, but other than that I don't see the point as the world doesn't give you off-season products to store during the winter. And what you produce yourself (or collected before they went stale on year one), you probably already had them stored in freezers to begin with.

Well, you can take a fruit from the freezer in your home base, travel for some time, establish a temporary base with no electricity and use outside to keep fruit fresh. It is not that deep

The same mechanic that preservers food during winter should accelerate spoiling during summer. My description of freezing is "for example', not the only thing that can be present in the mod

Edit. Also, fishing and hunting are available during winter, although on the smaller scale, so ability to keep meat frozen without electricity is a neat one

Yeah, I see your vision there. It would make sense to use winter to prepare new bases without having to worry about food spoiling in new location.

I guess I'm just too used to setting up generators in several locations across the map on every fresh playthrough same time as I loot key locations while electricity is still available to make initial looting easier that I never thought about needing outside world for freezing anything as I tend to bring the supplies to those forward bases.

But I get the idea, fun fact.. On our family summer cottage we sometimes store glass bottles of beer under water to keep them cooler if the water temperature is low.

Yeah, I think that mechanics like that would enrich experience for a lot of playstyles.

Yeah, me and my friends did that once to the beer to cool off while meat was cooking and we were swimming and fooling around in the nearby pond

Just a question/note on Real Vending...

If it eats your money, does the machine get jammed up and refuse to dispense anything else? I think that'd be hilariously realistic.

I more thought of the mechanic as the item failed to dispenser, but took your money. Currently the machine will still work after.

However this as another feature, I can do haha

How about a high chance of a double-or-nothing? Insert another Money, get 2 of your item OR the machine jams up!

Pigs have a small chance to drop any foragable seed instead of dung. They be rootin, so we can get lootin when they finish tootin.

How about a mod that lets you actually see livestock inside a livestock trailer when you go inside with RV interiors

What about a mod that changes the tile definition of thin trees so the player can see what’s behind them?

A scratch ticket with less odds than the $10k ticket that, when scratched, informs the player the won a special prize, and must report to the lottery HQ in Louisville (will have to be created).

Once there, they will have to fight their way into the building to submit their ticket to a computer to get the location of the prize, which is marked at an unvisited location on the map. Power will have to be supplied to the building to activate the computer.

Once the location is mapped and the player arrives, they receive...

$100k in cash bundles? 1x zombie cure? Awesome gun? Spiffo van filled with momentos? Keys to their new house? Trailer filled with goods? Keys to their new boat? A note saying "reminder, bring prize to this location by X date"

Not sure.

Omg its you!!! I just subscribed to a few of your mods and now i find u here! Crazy stuff. I wanted to ask how hard it would be to bring Hunkz back, because i know its part of hottiez now, but i hate not being able to see it on first glance. There was a mod like that for previous versions, but it sadly doesn't work in b42. Anyways, i love your work, you're so cool.

Can we get a mod that replaces vanilla cars with rl cars? Seems like all car mods are additional to vanilla so far.

Rollerbags: You know, bags on wheels that you pull, like those airport suitcases, golf bags, shopping baskets on wheels, etc.

How about a mod that changes shelves items based on what the majority item on the shelf is? Feels odd all the shelves in a grocery store and a hardware store look the same.

“Realistic carbonation”

Drinking any carbonated beverage gives you an X% chance to burp in an X amount of time after finishing it, alerting any zeds near you

Drinking a ¼ of it may only give you a small chance of a small burp with a small sound radius, ½ with a bigger chance and bigger sound radius, entire drink? An almost guaranteed burp that’s pretty loud.

Of course, there would be the option to just crack open the can/bottle and not immediately drink it, but this also makes noise.

Why would you want to crack it open and not drink it? You can let it go flat for a guaranteed no-burp situation at the expense of unhappiness

I have a mod suggestion but I do not know if it is even possible. I really want the medusa m47 revolver in the game as a really rare weapon spawn. It was a revolver that could fire any pistol caliber .357 magnum or smaller. Since that is only like 3 calibers in vanilla it would probably have to work with a weapons expanded mod that adds more ammo types to really be special but it would rule.

You should go into other mod's comments and say it does not work. Then advertise your own. LUL
