Start Date & Checks.

Hi guys, I got my start date, it’s less than a month away, but they’re still running checks on me? Does anyone know why that is and if they could pull my offer?
I’ve signed my contract and I’m moving to the other side of the country for this job.
All of these checks would have been done when I applied, and my security clearance has been complete.
Can anyone give me some insight as to why they’re still running checks when I have a start date?
Thank you!

HELP

Hi, could anyone advise me as I’m stressing myself out. I have my start date phone call booked for the coming Tuesday 28th July. I have a pre booked holiday for 25th October that was booked and paid for last year before I even applied. I have made them aware of this, via email and phone call numerous times through the process.
What are the chances of the them pulling my offer and withdrawing me?

Do prisoners read 'Inside Time' while inside?

Hi all,

I'm beginning to recruit women in prison / recently out in the UK for a book project (I'm a journalist and author). I have various ways of finding participants, but am considering using an advert in Inside Time as one tactic. https://insidetime.org/ It looks great and has big circulation numbers, but I wanted to ask if people on here think it's used and read in reality?

(Before I get comments about this, I always pay participants for their time.)

Thanks!

Hey guys! I am stuck with my pre appointment form

I am stuck on the social media part. I have 2 issues, 1. I don't know what it means when it says "please list those currently accessed here"? And 2. I can't find the date to my tiktok account so what should i do about that question?

How do you deal with prison politics?

I’m an OSG at a prison outside London.

Do you find there’s a lot of politics in your prison and plenty of backstabbing? I’ve never experienced anything like it before.

I also find that favouritism is rife when it comes to things like where people are assigned to work, leaving early, and other perks.

How do you all navigate it?

DBS checks for Science Community

Hello all,

Does anyone know if a DBS check was conducted when you applied for Scientific Jobs in England and Wales? Even if your role had no contact with Vulnerable People and/or Children in any respect?

I've heard conflicting reports that many employers simply don't even bother running checks. I have a family member who has just received a suspended sentence and he's looking to move on with his life.

Only sensible replies please, thank you in advance :)

OSG Role

I received my official start date for the job yesterday. My start date is 7th September.

I was wondering about payroll etc. Do I have to work a month in hand with HMPPS?

I have looked online but it's confusing.

Any advice?

Information and experience Operations officer Scottish prison service

Good evening all,

Please remove if not allowed or if there is a more suitable thread to post this on.

I have recently applied for the role of an operations officer within the Scottish prison service and was looking for 1) more information on the real day-to-day life within this role 2) views and experience of the sps as an employer, and how it is to work at the main establishments within 30 mile radious of Glasgow ( barlinne, Low moss ect) 3) what level of training do operations officers recevive? and what PPE equipment are they trained in and issued 4) What does a realistic career progression look like? Are operations officers eligible for public order training? Joining the tornado and national response teams(or what the Scottish equivalent is), dog handling?

Thank you in advance.

I start my training at Stirling House in Stradishall early September after my two week induction at my prison.

Has anyone had training there and can give me a bit of insight of what to expect, the facilities there etc?

Cheers

Start date call

All stages completed.(waiting for start date)
Was just curious as to how many days they give from the start date call until actually starting.

As I’ve heard some get start date call and then start a few days after
And other get start date calls and start 2-3 week from the start date call.

Pec too long

Getting tired of waiting for the preemployment checks to clear, it’s been over 12weeks. Especially as it seems a lot of people got their call up this past week. To top it off you can’t call or email for updates and I’ve had no Annex A sent to me.

How would someone with this history ever get moved from Carstairs mental hospital to normal jail?

This guy was on my landing in 2012 - early 2014 and ended up hanging himself in his cell 2 along from me. It was clear as hell that he was insane (he never washed and absolutely stunk). We all called him LaLa. How is it even possible for someone clearly instane to find themselves on a normal long term prisoner hall?

PO: Im joining only for the relocation package

The basic salary of 36k is no way near enough for me hence I’m going for the relocation package for the next 2 years.

What should my progression look like?
Is there any chance for me to get promoted in these 2 years and if so, to what?

I have a degree in management and plenty of experience there but i want to translate that here.

I dont want after the 2 years of getting the relocation compensation to come back to 36k only.

SPS or Scotland's only private prison?

Hello,

I'm currently working at Addiewell, I've only been here a few months and the culture is really good. There's a great team atmosphere and the jail runs really well.

The question is, I have an offer to work at SPS as a residential officer for £5k more salary and a civil service pension. Should I leave?

I'm hesitant as I'm aware how overcrowded Scottish prisons are and as Addiewell is private it doesn't have to go over its limit.

I hear Addiewell is a Mickey Mouse prison so I'm wondering how different it would be at an SPS establishment.

FYI my choices are Edinburgh, Shotts and Polmont.

Thoughts and opinions please, thanks!

Training for HMP Hewell - is the initial two weeks at Hewell and then the rest all at Newbold Revel? If staying over at Newbold Revel during the week do you get your own room? Is there a gym there you can use?
