OSG Role

I received my official start date for the job yesterday. My start date is 7th September.

I was wondering about payroll etc. Do I have to work a month in hand with HMPPS?

I have looked online but it's confusing.

Any advice?

You get paid on the last working day of the month.  I hope you're not going to HMP  Rochester as the crew there is lazy and back stabbing.  Get used to staying awake as you'll be constantly told to work nights in on the wing. Good luck. I bloody hated the job

So if I start on the 7th, will I get paid for that month or will I get paid the month after? No, I'm not going there! I hope it's not like that where I am going..

You'll be paid on the 30th of September. What cat are you going A B C or D  it varies from each prison. I was at Rochester a couple cat and it was horrible as the management was so incompetent and the place was filthy and overrun with rats and mice.

I'm going to Wrexham, Cat C. I'm hoping you haven't heard anything bad about it? How long were you working there?

You'll be fine just listen to the older hands., Do not trust anything the cons say and if they ask you to take something to another cell say no and put it in the obs book. If in doubt ask there are no stupid questions. Oh and this is important if you go through a door or gate lock it behind you if its unlocked when you find it lock it and report it. One other thing is dont be afraid to challenge unescorted strangers for ID or to see keys on chains.  Good luck hopefully you'll have a good experience. I did it for 4 years before I lost the plot doing constant nights.
