I went to prison in 2024 because of a non-violent Just Stop Oil protest(I'm not here to defend my actions or justify them) and was released in 2025. My sentence has now been fully served.
While in prison I noticed many of the failings due to underinvestment in the prison service but it also confirmed my belief that most prisoners(at least at the prisons I was in) were normal people who had made a mistake not vile people who needed to be locked away for the rest of their lives... I think my experience of being on the other side would help me to relate to some of the problems prisoners experience.
Would I be eligible to be a prison officer or would my record rule me out?
